But
that doesn't matter in your case. You use XP and Google
Chrome, the browser, hasn't been updated for XP for perhaps almost a year.
In addition, the settings, or almost all of them, I haven't

You have to do certain things to be able to work with some of
them such as manually turn off and on browse mode. The
program isn't as accessible as it should be but there is a
difference between accessibility and usability and a lot of
programs are very usable, even though not fully accessible.
Chrome is largely accessible and is very usable, though not
completely everything is. But it's usable enough so that
almost everything desired can be done except in the case of
add ons which may not be accessible, but that's the fault of the add on designer.

I'm going into all this mainly because your message may, if
not discussed, mslead others into believing Chrome is not
usable and is not reasonably accessible. I don't particularly
like the interface but the program is reasonably accessible
and quite usable.

As far as playing audio files, Chrome does play audio. I
don't know if it plays what you are trying to play. I don't
know what you are having problems with but please don't state
things as though they are facts based on only your experience
with an unfamiliar program. It's perfectly alright to say, I

Re: Recommendations of Win10 + NVDA Apps and Settings?

Gene

The quoted message asks the question.  If you didn't read the entire quoted message or just part of it, you won't see it.  It asks at the end, what other settings may improve Windows performance.

I don't use Windows 10.  But my impression is that, starting with Windows 7, very few settings need be changed.  I don't recall changing any settings other than show extensions and to use list or details for folders and files.  I don't know if screen-readers do this or if Windows is now smart enough to do this when it sees that a screen-reader is in use, but features that may cause problems such as using certain effects are automatically turned off when a screen-reader is used.  These sorts of things that blind people used to change have been automated and no longer need to be done.  and that has the further advantage that when a blind person unloads a screen-reader, sighted users can see Windows as they are accustomed to.

You have to do certain things to be able to work with some of them

accessibility and usability and a lot of programs are very usable,

usable enough so that almost everything desired can be done except
in the case of add ons which may not be accessible, but that's the

I'm going into all this mainly because your message may, if not
discussed, mslead others into believing Chrome is not usable and

interface but the program is reasonably accessible and quite
usable.

As far as playing audio files, Chrome does play audio. I don't
know if it plays what you are trying to play. I don't know what
you are having problems with but please don't state things as
though they are facts based on only your experience with an

主题: [nvda] Recommendations of Win10 + NVDA Apps and Settings?

It's been  a while since i've used Win10 and  NVDA, so I wanted to tap the wisdom of this group.

In addition to setting the default browser, Cortona hotword/keyboard shortcuts, setting folder views to detailed view, adjusting for performance, etc.

For the best and most accessible experience with Win10 and NVDA, what are the  must get apps and must configure settings?

Thanks!!

That's
true for Firefox as well. Also, I'm not sure what you want to do.
You appear to want to be able to save multimedia files without them

in
Chrome or Firefox. As I said, there may be ways to do these things
you don't know about in both browsers even if there are no
settings. I can't discuss multimedia files in part because I'm not
sure just what kinds of files you are discussing and I may not have
tried to save those filetypes..
But in terms of files such as audio files like MP3s, in Firefox,
once the file starts to play in the browser, you can save it by
issuing the command control s, then using the save as dialog that
opens. I wouldn't be surprised if that is true in Chrome as well.

Please explain what you want to do in detail so people can address
it.

You may want to live in the technological past indefinitely but you
can't unless you want to be increasingly unable to do things you do
now and limited in things you may want to do in future.

Re: Vocalizer Expressive sapi voices

Hmmph.

Its another step, I guess what I would have to do then is when a feature update came about, or was on the cards, I'd have to defur the update so it didn't happen so I'd have enough time to deactivate the licence, then reactivate everything once I was updated.

I'd have thought that there could be a way to back it all up, then put it back without doodling about, but maybe there is a way to do all that.

Re: Vocalizer Expressive sapi voices

Hmmm I do wander what you do when windows 10 updates so often to the latest feature update, do you have to deactivate the product first?

But yeah I am seriously thinking of this to 60 bucks is better than the acapella ones and I have been using scansoft for ages and ages now.

I especially like the User dictionary.
Unlike the Vocalizer expressive and eloquence for NVDA, from what I've read, you can supposedly transfer your license from your old computer to a new one if it updates.
If any of you are interested, ATGuys is the one selling the product. It's 115 dollars, but keep in mind, it does allow you to use the voices with any screen reader. When you compare it to the Sapi voices for Acapela that cost 299 dollars, it's a pretty good deal.

It sounds like perhaps the orientation is set wrong for that particular document. I have seen this happen before and I think switching manually to landscape fixed the problem. But it was years ago and I don't think I can replicate this, now. I had Adobe Reader then, an old version, and looking through various options in Acrobat quickly, now, I cannot figure out exactly how to do this, so I see through google that there are some threads about it. I don't know, if any case, if this really is the problem. But you could try experimenting with it....

Re: Vocalizer Expressive sapi voices

Hi,
I recently found out CodeFactory is selling a package containing Vocalizer expressive sapi voices that will work with any screen reader.
I am using it right now and have tested it with both Narrator and NVDA. So far, everything is working great.
