Re: In-Process 23rd February 2018

Quentin Christensen

Hi Zahra,

It looks like when the work was done (to address those issues), it was planned for 2017.4.  Any code which gets submitted by anyone, even in-house, needs to be reviewed or checked over by someone else.  It looks like that review wasn't done as quickly as initially anticipated, so they didn't make it in to 2017.4.

Kind regards

Quentin.

Re: how to move mouse with keyboard

Gene New Zealand <hurrikennyandopo@...>

Hi

Under the following section in the user manual will give you all commands to do with the mouse.

The other thing that may be of interest is the golden cursor found on the add ons website for moving the mouse around the screen etc.

But any how from the user manual here is all the commands below.

5.7. Navigating with the Mouse
When you move the mouse, NVDA by default reports the text that is directly under the mouse pointer as the pointer moves over it. Where supported, NVDA will read the surrounding paragraph of text, though some controls may only read by line.
NVDA can be configured to also announce the type of object under the mouse as it moves (e.g. list, button, etc.). This may be useful for totally blind users, as sometimes, the text isn't enough.
NVDA provides a way for users to understand where the mouse is located relative to the dimensions of the screen by playing the current mouse coordinates as audio beeps. The higher the mouse is on the screen, the higher the pitch of the beeps. The further left or right the mouse is located on the screen, the further left or right the sound will be played (assuming the user has stereo speakers or headphones).
These extra mouse features are not turned on by default in NVDA. If you wish to take advantage of them, you can configure them from the Mouse settings dialog, found in the NVDA Preferences menu.
Although a physical mouse or trackpad should be used to navigate with the mouse, NVDA has a few key commands related to the mouse:
Name
Desktop key
Laptop key
Description
Left mouse button click
numpadDivide
NVDA+[
clicks the left mouse button once. The common double click can be performed by pressing this key twice in quick succession
Left mouse button lock
shift+numpadDivide
NVDA+control+[
Locks the left mouse button down. Press again to release it. To drag the mouse, press this key to lock the left button down and then move the mouse either physically or use one of the other mouse routing commands
Right mouse click
numpadMultiply
NVDA+]
Clicks the right mouse button once.
Right mouse button lock
shift+numpadMultiply
NVDA+control+]
Locks the right mouse button down. Press again to release it. To drag the mouse, press this key to lock the right button down and then move the mouse either physically or use one of the other mouse routing commands
Move mouse to current navigator object
NVDA+numpadDivide
NVDA+shift+m
Moves the mouse to the location of the current navigator object and review cursor
Navigate to the object under the mouse
NVDA+numpadMultiply
NVDA+shift+n
Set the navigator object to the object located at the position of the mouse

You can also use Micro Sip which also comes in the portable apps database too. If I try out any software I try out the portable version first through that system. The portableapps system.

Hi,
I didn't think there was anything other than Skype...From what I can see, it

doesn't have online/offline-based contacts like Skype does, but it does seem

to allow telephone calls. Only problem with that is, documentation is in
German and dialing a number won't connect. And PhonerLite gives me this
confusing startup wizard with loads of different options which I don't have
a clue what they mean...Seems very confusing for a telephony program.
Cheers.

Hi,

Phoner is a SIP client.
You need an account from a SIP provider.
iptel.org for example provides such accounts for free at least if they still do.
though if you are looking something like skype well then you might look somewhere different.
btw SIP clients have no online/offline lists.
its a software phone.

though i guess you are looking for a voice chat tool.

there are some like ventrillo or other solutions like teamspeak/teamtalk.

Re: did you test libreoffice 5.3 and later to read dialogs using screen review?

Simon Eigeldinger

Hi,

I know that doesn't help much with that issue.
though modifying some of those helps a little bit in speed.
at least i had the impression.
it also helps with the UI.

btw this is what i found in the NVDA manual about screen review and some programs:
Note that in some newer applications, NVDA may not see some or all text displayed on the screen due to the use of newer screen drawing technologies which are impossible to support at this time.

I guess thats also garbled text or mixing things up.

according to wikipedia liberoffice is more popular but let's stop here.

i guess somewhere there is also written who has implemented the iaccessible2 support for open/libreoffice.
i guess his name was steve yin but i am not sure.

Greetings,
Simon

Re: VOIP client usable with NVDA

Damien Garwood <damien@...>

Hi,
I didn't think there was anything other than Skype...From what I can see, it doesn't have online/offline-based contacts like Skype does, but it does seem to allow telephone calls. Only problem with that is, documentation is in German and dialing a number won't connect. And PhonerLite gives me this confusing startup wizard with loads of different options which I don't have a clue what they mean...Seems very confusing for a telephony program.
Cheers.
Damien.

Hi,

Yes phoner works fine.
I always used the standard version instead of lite though both should be
fine.

make it more accessible, or on another client that is more accessible, I'd
love to hear from you.

Thanks,

In order to help, we need details.  What browser are you using?  When you press enter on the file, does it play in the browser or open another program?  Is the file actually referred to as a podcast?  We don't know, at this point, if the file is being played as it is fully downloaded into the browser or a player or if it is a stream that only plays part of the file, overwrites what it has played as it plays move.

Can you give the address of the page where the file link is?

I discussed the file type briefly but my main point is that using the context menu will allow you to save files on some sites and not on others.  this is not related to the file type, it's how the site is constructed.

We don't know, but my guess is that, in this case, Internet Explorer is being used and the file opens in Windows Media player, hence the question of how to save from there.

In the context of other browsers, not the archaic Internet Explorer, the file is played in the browser when you press enter on the link.  If you are on a site where save target as or equivalent doesn't work, you need to know that you can use the command control s while the file is playing, and save it while in the browser in that way.

Of course, that presupposes that you are dealing with an actual file that is playing from the site as a file, and not a stream.  The stream plays a little of a file and then refreshes the buffer in the browser or player but the entire file is never available.  Just a little bit ahead of where you are listening.  It can't be saved because it is a stream, not a file playing as a file from the web site.  Since this is called a podcast in the question, the odds are that it is an actual file being played from the web site, not a stream as I am using the word.

Hello Gene,

If you  read my message again, I do say, “We don’t know what kind of file it is so can’t be specific”,

It’s worth a try anyway, if the original questioner could say exactly what podcast  is to be downloaded, that would be better.

As you rightly say, that is why you asked questions.

Best Regards, Jim.

That is one way you can save many files.  But it is important to know other ways as well.  Some sites don't support downloading files in that way.  That's why I asked questions such as whether the file opens in Windows media Player.

Hello,

Pressing enter on the link will probably open it, if it’s to be downloaded, try the context menu, [key to the left of the right control key on a standard keyboard], you get options including maybe “save as” or “save target as”, this should bring up the normal save as dialogue and the file can be saved to a folder, from there it cvan be opened in a program such as Windows media player.

We don’t know what kindof file it is so can’t be specific, I hope this helps and good luck.

Best Regards, Jim.

But when you press enter on the link, what happens?  Does it play In Media Player?  I believe someone described how to download a file such as a podcast playing in Windows Media Player.  But before that method is of any use to you, does the file open in the player?
