Re: Updating to 2018.2 working on Windows 7
Brian's Mail list account
It worked for me from the start, though I always do it via a portable copy first so naturally it downloaded it in the web browser and then I had to run the file from the download. However with the new download code one assumes all should be normal next time ie I won't need to point it to the folder manually.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
The idea behind this is that I can then simply install any version I fancy from the requisite portable version be it master, next rc or full release. At the moment I'm using a master installed as a whole flotilla of updates arrived in the last few days and I decided to take a long look to make sure nothing had been broken. so far so good. Updating to 2018.2 working on Windows 7
Quentin Christensen
Hi everyone, We (believe we) have fixed the issue preventing Windows 7 users from seeing the update to 2018.2. If anyone is running NVDA 2018.1 on Windows 7 still (ie, you haven't manually downloaded and installed the update), could you please advise whether the "Check for updates" function in the help menu works now? If you have the option set to automatically check for updates, it will only look once a day, so likely won't pick it up until tomorrow, but if you don't manually check for updates, it should also work next time it checks. If anyone has any problems from now though, please let me know. Kind regards Quentin. Re: for Windows 7 users Re: [nvda] NVDA 2018.2 is now available!

That's what it look like, yes. Which is why upgrading from NVDA 2017.4 or earlier on Windows 7 finds 2018.2, but upgrading from 2018.1 doesn't (from my limited trial on one computer). We should be able to fix it but in the meantime, downloading the update manually should work.

Hi, Quentin. I am currently running Nvda 2018.2 on two computers running Windows 10 pro on my primary desktop pc and Windows 10 home on my laptop pc. Like Lino and others, I downloaded the update manually from the website because Nvda would not check for updates from within the program itself after launching it from the shortcuts on my pc’s. I didn’t want to wait to be truthful.

Your welcome. I wonder if things broke when Windows
7 users didn't, and weren't supposed to get the automatic update notice from the
2018.1 minor update that was rolled out to WinX users? Just a
thought.

Hi. I have no problems updating NVDA itself, but I do have an issue updating the Win10 app issentials. It prompts me to update, but when I click the update button, it comes up with an "unable to update" response. This happens off and on, so I am wondering if it is a network or server issue. Cheers!

Re: nvda 2018.2 is there for windows 7 sp1 and higher
Quentin Christensen
There is definitely an issue upgrading on Windows 7 using the upgrade check in the program itself. Possibly related to the block we put on that routine upgrading from 2018.1 to 2018.1.1 (since the fix in 2018.1.1 only affected Windows 10). In the meantime, updating from https://www.nvaccess.org/download/ should work fine. And yes, 2018.2 should work fine on Windows 7, with the caveat that you need Windows 7 SP1. Kind regards Quentin.
