If you ask questions that aren't answered, that's
probably because no one knows the answer. It may happen that a question
may be overlooked by someone so some people send a question again after a day or

Re: Does anyone here use EaseUS To Do Backup?
I do not typically do "bump posts," but I'm making an exception as complete radio silence is quite atypical and I'm wondering if my original query, pasted below, might have landed in the cyber bitbucket the first time around.
-------------------------------------- . . . if so, can you explain to me how you navigate the main controls for setting up a system image backup, file backup, or disk partition backup (among the other options there). I have no problem once a backup is actually set up navigating all of the controls to either recover from it, run the backup again, or control advanced options for said backup, but I cannot seem to navigate the main control column to the left side of the screen where one selects the kind of backup one wishes to set up. ------------------------------- I guess if it's radio silence again I can safely presume the answer to the question posed by the topic itself is, "No." -- Brian - Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit, Version 1803, Build 17134 A little kindness from person to person is better than a vast love for all humankind. ~ Richard Dehmel

This is not what he was asking though. I think he was asking why a word is presumed to have ended by an apostrophe and then on the typing of the last letter and space spoken again.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
its debatable which is totally correct. In one case, ie Jaws, it seems to look for a space to say the preceding word, but on nvda it seems any punctuation also invokes speech. I actually like it as it is, but it can be odd to those used to other ways. Brian bglists@... Sent via blueyonder. Hi,

Which NVDA version do you have? And from Add-ons Manager, is Screen Curtain shown as "enabled", not "installed"? If you see that Screen Curtain is shown as "installed", then looks like the add-on install file has become corrupt. If it is shown as "enabled", chances are that something went wrong when NVDA was preparing to load this add-on. First, try restarting your computer. For most cases, this should resolve the problem. If it does not, please send me a log so I can find out what's up. Cheers, Joseph

Re: How to configure Switch Synth?
List, Auto languag detection built in is not quite useful ,since it;s based on web page .But the experimental function in vocalizer is quite handy. It uses unicode block to detect language.

Bear in mind that you will want to do something like activate a speech slot, then make changes to voice output settings, before then saving those settings for later use.
For example, I would press NVDA + ctrl + shift + 1, then use nvda + ctrl + s to bring up synthesizer dialogue, make a choice, and then use nvda + ctrl + v to bring up the voice settings, make a choice, and voice setting changes, and then hit nvda + ctrl + shift + v to save the current settings to the previously selected slot.
You would then repeat these steps, choosing a different slot each time, to have multiple switch synth combinations available/configured.
And, while it may suit some people, I will mention that one of the reasons I leave any form of automatic language switching turned off is since web developers don't always pay attention to what they should have set a web-page's underlying language to, and, that's one of the triggers that something like that would react to...<smile>

Hi Diana, Preferred settings means the synth settings you need to switch between. To configure speech settings, open NVDA menu and go to Preferences -> Settings... -> Speech. If your mum needs automatic switching between English and Mandarin ,try vocalizer expressive on https://vocalizer-nvda.com/ As for OCR ,add a Chinese keyboard layout in Windows language settings and Windows will download data for Chinese OCR and install it. It may take a few minutes.

no connection is allowed. I can connect on Firefox. I don't know if
the site is actually insecure enough to worry about or if an older protocol is
being used that Google doesn't work with any longer because it isn't as secure
as whatever is generally being used these days. If you are going to send
personal information to the site, you might want to wait until more information

Re: The Way NVDA Announces Punctuation As I Type
Quentin Christensen
Hi Will, You are correct re apostrophe being treated as a word break when speaking typed words. There is an issue open for it, which doesn't appear to have had any updates lately: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/6215 I've just commented on it myself. Re speaking punctuation as you type but not as you read, as Gene noted, press NVDA+p to change NVDA's punctuation level while reading only. It has four states, None, Some, Most and All. The higher the level, the more punctuation gets read, and the lower the level, the less gets read when reading. When typing, if speak typed characters on, NVDA will read any punctuation character you type, regardless of the punctuation level. This doesn't quite work in with the way you want to work if you want to have speak typed characters off unfortunately. I can't think of a way of having NVDA read the punctuation characters that you type without reading the letters as well. Regards Quentin.
