I agree its hard.
However with something like a web brouser, it should be able to run anywhere you want without issue.
This is not a specialised program, thunderbird works in quantom mode but I only use email, I know the addons panel doesn't work but I don't need that, it is a bit slower and can be problematic at times.

I do agree that browsers like the New Firefox is, in my view a backward step in accessibility, and also nvda though faster in it now than it was is also less fast on older browsers, not all but some. Only the programmers might know why, but I suspect that decisions have to be made about what version of code is used for a given situation, and here it might be that things get slowed down.
I think it perfectly fair comment if you have limited access to modern versions of Windows, that when you find a working version of NVDA that you stay with it. After all I do still have some XP machines running the older versions and they are quite happy and why worry?
The fact is, time and tech do move on and so making something work is a constant catch up game, since we effectively get a complete new windows every half year, which personally I find ridiculous , but that is a whole other discussion for another place. Myself, just as with XP if it continues to suit my needs and does not die, I shall be using windows 7 until forced to change for my main machine for my charity work as it is after all the years of updates much more reliable than a brand new version of windows 10 every six months can ever be.

hi. i always follow new features, changes and bug fixes in different versions of nvda. i believe nvda since its version 2017.3 and later, has focus on improving windows ten support, microsoft edge, braille and quantum versions of firefox which i dont need any of them. i wished to use 2017.2 which has some important features for me, but unfortunately it is slow in web browsers, and even two or three times made my keyboard and explorer unusable and made me to forceably shutdown my system using power key! the only version that sutes my needs and i did not experience such problems on it, both using windows xp (my favorite windows version forever) and even testing with windows seven, is nvda version 2017.1.
i realy love it, very fast and responsive, without hang or making keyboard and system unusable and i wish and decided to keep and use nvda 2017.1 forever by the grace of God!

Hi,
Gene is correct, although I should emphasize that 2018.3 (at least in beta form) will bring more than improved support for Windows 10. Some of the other features include automatic braille display detection, announcing grammar errors in Chrome if exposed by web authors, support for BrailleNote QT (my work), improved list of languages in NVDA's general settings panel, and a whole bunch of changes for developers.
Cheers,

Do you have service pack 1 installed on the Windows machine? that is necessary. As far as I know, NVDA still supports machines withService Pack 1.
How important is it for you to run a current version. While I don't follow what's new in NVDA closely since I have no need of what has been changed, my impression is that for awhile, most changes are to keep the program current and improve accessibility in Windows 10. Therefore, you might do well running the last version that doesn't require service pack 1 if you can't or don't want to upgrade the machine.

Well I would have prefured to be honest that I could buy a licence to use ccleaner without any monitering as an on demand thing.

Hello,
Not a big fan of products like CCleaner. In September of 2017, it was widely reported that the backdoor was being exploited to have malware implanted. And another report last December:
The actual malware detected in CCleaner was found to contain malicious code: the attackers implanted their code in a legitimate product that received a legitimate certificate.
Who knows when or if the above will happen again. Use the product at your own risk.

First question: is there a way to toggle between folders and

Next, is there a way to speed up movement through navigating

In addition, is there anything in NVDA that I can check to see

Do some programs tell you and some not or do none
tell you. I'm trying to determine if this is an accessibility problem with
certain programs, a problem with your Windows causing nothing to tell you, or a
problem with only certain programs. If it's a problem with only certain
programs, I doubt you can other than, perhaps performing OCR on the screen,
which might tell you.
If it's a problem with Windows, you may be able to
correct it or, if you don't want to spend the time and trouble, I have no idea
how easy or difficult it may be, doing OCR on the screen may tell you in that
case as well.

This won't help with correcting the current
problem. I suspect you may need sighted assistance. But if you look
at the web site of a program if you think the program should be removed
differently than usual and/or or ask here if you have a problem or if you hink a
different removal procedure is necessary or desirable, you may save time and
trouble. the web site doesn't say to turn off Avast as a process. I
have Avast. I don't know if your experience will be the same but when I
uninstalled it from one machine, I used add/remove programs, it was an XP
machine, and started the uninstallation as usuall. Then at some point, a
non-speaking are you sure dialog came up. I pressed the space bar and
speech returned. I was then able to continue. I thought that might
be happening because of past experience with the program where a non-speaking
dialog comes up when doing certain things.
And the web site says to first try uninstalling the
program using Programs and Features and if that doesn't work, to use their
uninstallation tool. It says nothing about disabling any processes
first. The program has a self-defence system and it may prevent you from
doing so anyway. It won't let you stop running it using the task
manager. You can turn the self-defense system off from within the
program. You may want sighted help to do so. Since the web site
doesn't mention doing this, it may make no difference.

Re: A bug to repport: NVDA works harder in Windows Explorer for some users.
Different program here. People are talking about Windows
Explorer, now called file browser on Windows 10. You are referring
to Internet Explorer, which is not actually being talked about
here, so the Firefox comparison is invalid.

I (and maybe others) have no idea what you're asking about. What are "blues tacks"? Give us a reference to where we can read about this, or explain to use in more detail what it is and what it's for.
Thanks,

Do you know what is updating
after you say yes? People have given suggestions. If they
don't work, whatever is presenting the question may be
inaccessible and I don't know if there is anything, other than
the app itself correcting the problem, that can be done.

hello, I have tried both tips that I have received in the forum.
so nvda key plus b and windows key plus m and then tab,
unfortunately
both tips do not work.
in this case it was skype, it was mentioned that it was an app
with a
microsoft approval.
but the name of the app remained hidden.
does anyone have another idea?
Or would it be an idea to build in a key combination here in nvda?
I think it's important to know what app or programm will update.
I want to know the name before I say yes or no.

That is important information and a lot of people won't sign up
successfully without seeing it. They won't include a number or it
will be too short.
>>
>> There are a lot of sites that have information that may
be important between fields that is not read when tabbing. Again,
another example of poor Internet instruction. There are forms
where I know, as an experienced user, that I don't have to worry
about missing possible information between the fields. But what
about all the inexperienced users? What about people who fill out
a form, don't know the importance of down arrowing instead of
tabbing through a form, and don't understand why the form is not
being accepted? Had they down arrowed and seen information about
the syntax to use in a field, they'd know.
>>
>> Experienced users may want to tab through unfamiliar
forms but they may have problems as a result. the best way to
deal with a form is to down arrow through it and certainly,
inexperienced users should do so as a matter of routine. And, of
course, anyone should try down arrowing through a form if
information isn't read that is necessary while tabbing.

Hello,
What's up with ccleaner? I've got an update and now when in the cleaner tab either applications or windows tab nothing indicates whether it is on or not, I don't know what items are going to be removed. Has anyone else seen this?

Hi all portable ccleaner users.
Here is the updated ini file if you don't want to bother with it.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/m15toyhbsmdy5fb/ccleaner.ini?dl=1
For those that want to know what is changed.
options/privacy needs to be reset because the preffs string is different.
The only other thing I have done is clear out the version strings that existed in there and rebuilt the ics program version string data.
For all the rest, while you can get the slim installer now I have portable it just works.
Things that have been changed include fixing the privacy setting issues with extra info added for that option including more datashheets for it.
The adjusting of the monitering so it says smart cleaning instead to explain what it does.
If you turn off smart cleaning ccleaner shouldn't stay loaded at startup anymore.
There is supposed to be a checkbox revamp and some more descriptions but I have yet to see any change, and to be honest now that I can use portable easily enough I don't know if I will ever go back to installed ever again.
