You can get there fromt eh main Nvaccess site as well, after clicking the download link. Come to think of it, it would be nice if this was a link prominently displayed off the main nVDA page, since people often might want to go there just to get addons, and the 'download" link at firsta ppears to just be for nVDA proper.
Anyway, besides all that, you can also get to the addons page from within NVDA itself. I believe it's in the help or tools menu. "get add-ons" or something like that.

Hi list members, i’m looking for the addon updater and windows app esentials for nvda. Where can i get both of these ad-ons from? Thank you for any information that you might have concerning my questions.
Gene, I agree with you.
And to add to that, the fact that so much data is available on the internet now to corporate platforms, which people upload to social media etc, without understanding the terms of service and comprehending that these companies can use your images, your words, etc, whenever they want to, take them out of context, change them, anything they want *unless* you set specific settings to the contrary, which may or may not be available in all apps, is cause for concern. Artists are really upset about this right nowa nd with good reason.
Now this is supposed to be “open” – I don’t know who owns it but it seems like it’s a more transparent kind of affair – at least on the surface. But I really don’t know.
It could be that the stuff that’s meant to identify you is done for purposes of tracking certain bits of data to certain users. Remember that anything you put into this AI will be used to further its data store. Remember what happened a bunch of years ago when microsoft’s AI, which they enthusiastically released to the public, got “corrupted” and ended up full of nazi propaganda or something along those lines. This new AI is going to require maintenance, and from their perspective, it’ll be good to be able to firmly link data entry with very specific users and their accounts.

I want to use the bot, not sign up to use a financial institution or apply for a security clearance.
Every time myu personal information is placed on an account, that's one more chance for it to be hacked.

It's because virtual cursors don't by default, scroll the screen, unless you have some kind of focus highlight turned on.

Pressing control home in browse mode moves the virtual cursor. The question is why, when in focus mode, the position doesn't necessarily line up with where the virtual cursor is.

Because on some pages, the virtual cursor in Browse mode doesn't line up with the actual page. You will see this on some other pages as well if you switch back and forth. That's why I said, in my instructions to move to the top of the page and tab once while in browse mode. I don't know technically why, but that aligns where you are in browse mode with where you are on the underlying page so my instructions will work consistently.

Hi,
I exactly know the screen reader and the feature you are talking about. Short of contacting the app developer, can you: 1. Move focus to the control in question, press NVDA+F1, and copy and paste developer info here or to me privately? Tat way we can figure out what's going on (don't copy the entire log, just developer info will do). 2. Try with Narrator and see if it behaves the same as NVDA. If yes, this might be something to tell the app vendor. 3. See if an add-on for this program is available.

human assistant though people are fiddling round at the edges.
Now workhas effectively stopped I will have a little time to muck about
with something, maybe not for to long but still a time.
Now as long as its something I can run, bring up when I want to then put
away without it running in the background doing who knows what thats one
thing.
I don't keep my echo plugged in while not in use.
I don't need to be spied on and becides I need the port for something else.

I would suspect that in the case of chatbots you find on web sites, all they are doing is the same thing and effectively doing what FAQs and help systems do. Flagging up the most likely one to solve your problem but I find them so frustrating as they clearly lack any idea that the user actually has a question unrelated to any of their data!
If you write code this way then I'd suggest you are treating routines like little black boxes as we used to do in CPM in the old days, where routines needed input parameters stored as required, and supplied its output the same way, this allowed that operating system to run on many many different machines, as all the black box routines were written as machine specific, and hence it did not matter what else happened.

It is not safe to follow links that are similar to but not actual links. Criminals purchase addresses that are close to legitimate ones. If people make typographical errors, they may land on the criminal site and be scammed or have malware placed on their machine. While this isn't a popular link, I don't want to use incomplete links just in case I am directed not to the intended site and I am taken somewhere either dangerous or inapplicable to the discussion.

You know I have not explored chat gpt just yet.
is it even worth bothering with.
After all we are talking about a program with a huge database but thats all it is.
Its a lot of bs mainly at least from some article its good at conversation but its still learning pluss its still an experiment.
I have better things to do than cloun round with this.
But I have some time to so is it worth mucking with?
I mean for a laugh, sure, but as a serious ai, don't know.
Its the rage, but so was the amazon and google systems.
Now I like my system and I use it a fair chunk but lets face it.
We aren't talking riply or skynet or even the borg here.
From all I have read there is no cash to be made in ai at least as a human assistant though people are fiddling round at the edges.

This program can't think. It works with patterns and applies what it finds with rules.

The code writing thing has been explored on the developer list. It's not perfect. There would still need to be loads of human intervention. It has great potential.
hi,
Have you heard of chatGPT? It is a free online chatBot, the most advanced ever! It works great with NVDA. It can remember previous conversations, write computer code just by you describing in english what you want it to write. example,
You can get it and play with it at:
chat.openai.com
in your web browser.
so anyway you can tell it to
Create a hook file in python code that lets me use sapi5 text to speech.
And it will write it. But that's not all, it writes plays, poetry, stories, professional and business letters just with a 1 to 4 or 5 sentence prompt, expanding on and coming up with its own ideas to fill in the details. Pasted below is a sample of what it can do. I hope NVDA takes advantage of advanced AI like chatGPT in the future.

Yes, Why do I hear clickable so often when nothing happens whether I use enter, spacebar, shift enter, etc..
I'm not complaining, much. But it's a weird one.

Sometimes "clickable" doesn't really do anything. Maybe there is something visual going on like the highlighting of text markeda s clickable, but for all intents and purposes it's useless. There was a whiel there where all review text on IMDB seemed to be designated as clickable. Anyway, one should just try it if a certain result is expected, and there doesn'ta ppear to be a standard link.

Hit enter, or route with nvda ahift m and left click, then explore the page if you don't hear it changing.

I think I asked this in another thread not far back, and really it turns out
to be an alternate way to get a specific area to be detected and do
something useful, often the choice depends on the whims of the page author.

I’ve seen that page before, though not recently. It does work, normally,a nd shouldn’t’ even require object navigation. Perhaps facebook is just broken again. It’sa pretty buggy site sometimes. Wait a while and try again, or maybe try a different browser. The fact you were able to select all the text though suggests it’s there and readable with your screen reader even if you can’t click the button.

Subject: [nvda] inaccessible facebook page when locked out of an account
Hi.
If you get locked out of your account due to some suspicious activity, the page that comes up asking you to confirm you are who you say you are is totally inaccessible, turning on browse mode and pressing arrow and tab keys does nothing. Apparently, when the page loads, you should see something like this.
your account has been locked
We saw unusual activity on your account. This may mean that someone has used your account without your knowledge.
Account locked December 5, 2022
To protect you, your profile is not visible to people on Facebook and you can't use your account.
We'll take you through some steps to unlock your account.
Get started. Now the only way that I was able to read this text was to use the function select all and then copy it to clipboard.
Is this an NVDA problem or a firefox problem? or is it both?
I'm using firefox version 108.0 with NVDA 2022.3.2.
What can I do to fix this?
Thanks.
I'm not complaining, much. But it's a weird one.

Not much in today's world. I know that answer is quite vague, however a
clickable can take you to another page as well as a link, it's just the way
the code is written. A clickable as well as a link can even modify the page
you are on thereby not taking you to the next page but leaving you on the
same one.

What is the difference between something on a web page that NVDA says is
clickable and something on the web page that NVDA says is a link?
