I consider the new sounds modern. The do do do do has ben around since I think 2007 when nvda was first released. Funny. When I first heard nvda I told my friend to turn it off. I hated it. The overtones just hurt my ears over skype.  Now I use nvda  as my main thingy.. Hehahahahaha!

I think it's because the new wav files are smaller and shorter. The starting

old ones did.

Hi,
It'll also depend on which release of Windows 10 you've got.
Until last year, NV Access and others said people should use Edge for pilot
testing purposes. This is no longer the case now: you can use Edge just like
any other browser. You can use first letter navigation, elements list (much
enhanced in the next release of NVDA) and what not.
Regarding JAWS 2018 and Edge: yes and no. JAWS 2018 beta will work with Edge
in Windows 10 Version 1703 (build 15063/Creators Update), but it won't work
properly in Version 1709 (Fall Creators Update). Microsoft and VFO are aware
of this problem and are working hard to resolve issues reported by testers.

Re: Microsoft Edge in NVDA 16.4 and 17.3

hi.

nvda 17.3

• NVDA now automatically reports notifications in Microsoft Edge, such
as when a download starts.

• Browse mode is now correctly supported in Microsoft Edge where a
document has been given a specific ARIA role of document.

• Performing quick navigation to headings in Microsoft Edge is now
significantly faster.

• In Microsoft Edge, navigating in browse mode no longer skips large
parts of certain web pages such as the Wordpress 2015 theme.

• In Microsoft Edge, landmarks are correctly localized in languages
other than English.

nvda 17.2:

• Navigating by line in Microsoft Edge is now up to three times faster
in the Windows 10 Creators Update.

• NVDA no longer announces "Web Runtime grouping" when focusing
Microsoft Edge documents in the Windows 10 Creators Update.

• In browse mode in Microsoft Edge, interactive tables (ARIA grids)
are no longer skipped when navigating to tables with t and shift+t.

• Automatic language switching is now supported in Microsoft Edge.

nvda 17.1:

• The NVDA find command (NVDA+control+f) is now supported in browse
mode in Microsoft Edge.

• Quick navigation for buttons in browse mode (b and shift+b) is now
supported in Microsoft Edge.

• Browse mode table navigation is now supported in Microsoft Edge.

• Typed characters are now spoken in Universal Windows Platform (UWP)
apps (including Microsoft Edge) in the Windows 10 Creators Update.

nvda 16.4:

• Initial support for the Anniversary update of Microsoft Edge.

hope that help, God bless you.

Re: Microsoft Edge in NVDA 16.4 and 17.3

Hi,
It'll also depend on which release of Windows 10 you've got.
Cheers,
Joseph

How do people differentiate between separation of large numbers for clarity VS decimal points if commas are used for both?

Ron, the us is likely the only country that still uses the period as a number separator anymore.  Many many countries use the comma as a separator, so the us is in the minority here.  To me, it makes more sense to use a period for decimals, and commas for digit separation, but that's probably because that's what I've seen all my life.  I'm sure it would be different if I'd been raised in Europe or some place similar that does things backwards. :)

Hi Adriano,

I noticed in the latest update that in the English System measurements, the period pronounced in English as dot has been replaced by the comma (,).  For example, the barometric pressure is reading as 29,29 rather than 29.29.

Incidentally, the barometric pressure discrepancies of about .5 MM of mercury is still prevalent and has been without change for a year now.

Below is a log of me trying to save a file to a specific folder in Firefox 55. all was going well as I tabbed around the savedialogue. It then stopped saying anything with tab, shift tab or cursors. I then did an nvda/f1 with the result below. OK so I know that often moveing away then back to the active dialogue would probably bring it back but just wondered if anyone who is on here knows what is going on here, as it seems to be contradicting itself. ie is it desktop or Firefox,it surely cannot be both, no wonder its silent....

Hi Adriano,

I vote for the period or dot--not the comma.  It was a period for years, who is asking for the comma?  Is this standard notation in parts of the world outside North America?

Hmmm, why not a decimal point instead of a comma?  It would be more standard.

I can promise it isn't blowing that hard. ;-))
