I’m sure it could be easily rectified by tweaking something eventually.

I agree, this is a significant accessibility issue as it makes editing cell content and formulae extremely difficult.  It is the same in Excel 2007.  I disabled Win10app essentials add-on in case that affected it but it does not.

Hi again,

As I stated before, I’m using Windows 10 Creater’s Edition with Excel 2010, and NVDA version 2017.3.

I’ve already tried the below steps with all of the add-ons disabled and It still doesn’t read what I need it to read.

I go to any of my already created Excel spreadsheets, and locate a cell I want to work with like a27.

So I go there, press f2 to get to the editing of the cell.

It reads everything when I’m moving through the text with left and right arrow keys.

However, when I want to select a portion of that text either character by character shift+right arrow key or word by word ctrl+shift+right arrow key, NVDA doesn’t read anything I’m selecting.

Obviously, when you press ctrl+c to copy the text it’ll go to the clipboard no problem, but the fact that you don’t know what’s been selected and copied, really bugs me.

Maybe there is a solution which I could implement to make everything work as it should.

I’ve tried key echo, and it still behaves the same way.

On the other hand, when I’m using Google Sheets, pressing f2 and then selecting text with shift+right arrow makes everything read as it should.

Thanks for any help.

In Word 2010, everything that I highlight gets to be read with no problem.
I never mess around with background color. Can you please walk me through
how to do that to see if that helps?

I wonder if you set up file attributes like background colour etc if that
might help as a work around. It sounds like the way highlighting is being
done in that version is not being seen by nvda. Does highlighting work in
Word from the same suite?

Hi everyone,

If you were looking to take the NVDA code contributions course and are
concerned about having to join the parent NVDA forum first, the following
should make it easier for you to join:

You can now join a subgroup of a mailing list on Groups.IO directly without
first having to sign up for a parent group. This will work if the parent
forum is not restricted (no moderator approval to join). The only caveat to
be aware of is that you need to set no mail on the parent group if you do

Re: NVDA OCR function

Travis Siegel <tsiegel@...>

Just for reference, if you're looking for best results, you typically want to avoid jpg files, because part of why jpg files are smaller than gif files is because they leave out some of the information relating to scan lines (among other things).  This means, that all things being equal, a gif will always give better results than a jpg of the same information.  For absolute best results, it used to be the tiff format should be used, because it had the most image information, but I've not kept up on newer formats such as png and family, so I don't actually know how much detail those image formats have.

But, this may answer your question as to why you were getting only half as good results with jpg files as opposed to whatever other format you  were using.

Since NVDA is simply using the Windows 10 OCR function I would say the results I am having relates to ?Windows and not NVDA but here is what I have found.

I used my Epson Scanner to create 10 JPG images of very clearly typed documents.  All used the same font type and font size.

After scanning  and saving each document as a JPG file I then opened each one in the Windows Photo viewer used insert numpad 2 to get focus on the image and hit insert r to recognize the image.  Only 5 of the ten files created a useful readable result. If I closed the photo viewer and made a second attempt I may get good results but again this was very inconsistent.

one question I have is how to use the Win 10 OCR outside of NVDA, in other words how does a sighted person use this Win 10 OCR function.

I figured it out.  I had to check the check box for the command to take effect.

It's odd.  As far as I know, I took the action.  But I don't see the message in my received mail.  I'll look at the part of the page for that operation again.

Hello. You can go to groups.io and modirate the messages from there. I do this often as I can just look and approve in bulk

Take care and hope that helps a bit.

Re: Making Partition Using NVDA

Unless you have a program that can resize partitions, you're not going to be able to change your partitions without loosing everything.Paragon has a couple programs that can do this, check out http://paragon-software.com and take a look at their partition manager or their hard disk manager depending on how much you want to do.  Both programs aren't 100 percent accessible, but they're close enough to get the job done.  If you're willing to help out, let me know, and  can give you my affiliate links, but if you just want to purchase the programs, that's ok too.

please don't leave the group when you don't want to get mail from it.
Every time you unsubscribe, when you subscribe and send a message,
the first message you send has to be approved. Every new member
has to have his first message approved. This is a setting list
administrators can't change. It is a setting set by the entire

Please go nomail so that every time you want to start receiving
mail and discuss something, the first message you send doesn't have
to be approved.
While messages are generally approved quickly or reasonbly
promptly, you may wait many hours perhaps six or eight if neeither
the owner or I look at the list because we are busy or sleeping.
To go nomail, send a blank message to
nvda+nomail@nvda.groups.io
To resume receiving mail as individual messages, send a message to
nvda+single@nvda.groups.io
That will resume single delivery if you have gone nomail.

Regarding your problem, did you shut down NVDA and run it again
after installing the add on?

Also, do you know about the SAPI5 Eloquence from, as I recall Code
Factory?
The eloquence in the add on you are trying has lots of annoying
artifacts.
The SAPI 5 Eloquence sounds as it should. You can get a demo of
that version as well. If you have problems finding it, asking here
should get you the information.

Hi good people:
I've just installed a copy of codefactory elequence expressive ad
on for NVDA, and I am starting with the trial version.
The program has been properly installed, and I've gone through the
settings. But I cannot find the program in the synthesiser

Please can anyone help me understand what could have gone wrong, or
what I didn't do properly?

I know that, but what I'd like to be able to do is set the us and uk voices the same so I can leave language switching on.
I think the only way to do this is to set it up as English us in espeak change to quincy, and then change it back to uk and then both should sound the same. Of course switching that option off will work, but I think its defaulted on.
Is this just a strange web site?

Hi when I access this web site some of the text is spoken in one espeak

voice, in my case Quincy, and some in another voice. Indeed I did look at

the log and it can be seen not to change the voice as such, but the

language, however it is still in English. is this the web site, me or am I
