Simone,
I'm not sure if you're sending these messages by e-mail, or using the web interface to post, but if it's the latter I'd like to ask you to go to any line where you have pasted in a web address or email address, go to the end, and hit space. That will force Groups.io to convert plain text for either of these to click through links. Re: NVDA 2021.3 RC2 now available

This may help you update add-ons but I’m not sure how you might get NVDA to
update itself. Also, this solution might not be necessary any
longer. It may be better and more simple to uninstall the add-on updater
you are using and install the newest version which probably has corrected the
problem discussed here.
I gave the address of the topic and here is the page to get the latest
add-on updater. That’s what I wsould try first.

Where to get the latest version of the NVDA Advanced OCR (NAO) Add-On
Simone Dal Maso
Hello all and many Christmas!
We are proud to tell you that a new version of Nao is available. This is the last version for 2021. We have added new features and solved some bugs, here is the list: • OCR of pdf and images are presented in a new text window, with some hotkeys for simple operations; in this manner we automatically solved the incompatibility with third party addons; shortcuts are: ◦ PgUp / PgDown: move the cursor between real pages of a multipages document. ◦ P: report page number related to the cursor position, in a multipage document. ◦ l: report line number related to the cursor position, in a multipage document. ◦ c: copy all text to the clipboard. ◦ s: Save a copy of the document in text format. ◦ f: find text and read some words before and after the string. • Support for the Xplorer filemanager. • Nao shortcuts are customizable from the Input Gestures Dialog of NVDA. Open NVDA menu, go to preferences, and from that submenu select input gestures dialog. Remember that this feature is not global, but it works only where Nao can make an ocr. So gestures will appear only if you are in the desktop, or in file explorer, Total Commander or Xplorer. • Nao works only where possible, so if you are in a not supported window, the hotkey will be ignored by the addon; this solved an important issue where Excel and Word users couldn't press the NVDA-Shift-r keystroke, since it was incorrectly intercepted by Nao. • A long Ocr process can be aborted simply pressing the "Cancel" button on the progress bar window. this window also gives you information about the state of the OCR, updating informations every 5 seconds. You can configure how to receive progress bar information with the standard NVDA-u command. • Added Turkish, Russian, Spanish, Chinese and french translations. • Users can make donations to the project. • Fixed a bug with some characters on the file name that prevents the Ocr to work properly. Download it from: www.nvda-nao.org/download Please, if you find critical bugs, write an email to: support@... We hope this addon will improve your productivity. See you in 2022!

Re: I want to volunteer to update Dictation Bridge
Not that this is not appreciated, because it is, but when it comes to stepping into "developer's shoes" for NVDA Add-Ons, there is a group dedicated to just that:
NVDA Add-On Developers Group, AKA NVDA Add-Ons Central This group is focused on the development of NVDA Add-Ons. It is not an end-user support group.
I'd advise you to join there and post. -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H1, Build 19043 The real art of conversation is not only to say the right thing in the right place but to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment. ~ Dorothy Nevill

I want to volunteer to update Dictation Bridge
Justin Harford
Hello I have recently started studying Python. I am still working my way through the basic course on codecademy. I am looking for a project to gain more practice in the real world, and I was thinking that the dictation bridge project could be a way to contribute. I'm not exactly sure what the nature of the needed changes are, but maybe if a programmer familiar with the project could guide/mentor me, I could make a difference with my limited skills. As I understand it the syntax changed between Python 2 and Python 3, so I am guessing that there is a lot of grunt work to be done, updating the syntax of dictation bridge so that it will play nice with NVDA, a big time commitment for experienced programmers with more opportunities or more pressing priorities, but perfect for me. Anyway it could be that I still need to build some more skills, but if it's just a matter of going through and updating syntax, I might have what it takes. I have a personal interest in getting this working with the latest version, as I use it for work every day, and would like to be able to update from the old version of NVDA that I am still using. Best regards Justin Harford (he/him/his) Program Coordinator (NCDE)

Announcement Only: On Subscribing to Restricted versus Unrestricted Groups on Groups.io
#adminnotice
What follows is being offered because members trying to subscribe to other Groups.io groups have been receiving very confusing bounce messages when using an outlook.com (or other Microsoft mail domain) address to subscribe to a restricted group. Don't presume if you get a bounce message after having subscribed to a group, and having replied to the confirmation message, that anything is necessarily wrong.
This message is long, but I'm going to describe what's going on as best I can. But the long and the short of it is that the bounce messages members have been receiving that just so happened to be using an outlook.com address are not, in all probability, connected to that at all. Or at least the fact they’re getting them isn’t, but the stuff Outlook sticks in front of the actual Groups.io bounce text is. Delivery has failed to these recipients or groups: main@shalstest.groups.io (main@shalstest.groups.io) Diagnostic information for administrators: Generating server: CH2PR19MB3989.namprd19.prod.outlook.com main@shalstest.groups.io Once your membership is approved, you then get whatever welcome message that group's administration has set up to go out for new members. So if you have received a group’s welcome message, you can be sure that your membership has been approved. Replacement for Dictation Bridge echo?
Milton Charlton
Is there any NVDA addon or app that will speak words as they are entered by dictation with Dragon Naturally Speaking 15.61? Dictation Bridge does not work with NVDA 2021. I like the NVDA feature which speaks typed words and would like the same for dictation. Dragon Naturally Speaking has a feature to play back your voice and another feature that will read out text that is selected but no echo of dictated words.
Thanks.

Re: Seeking participants worldwide for a travel website usability study with Level Access
For the record, the NVDA Group policy is only to allow the posting of "calls for participants" after such have been reviewed by group administration. These have been allowed before, but generally only for research being conducted by academic institutions, with a few rare exceptions.
Anyone who wishes to post a message with a call for participants should only do so after having sent it to the NVDA Group Owner, nvda+owner@nvda.groups.io, and having received approval. Re: is the next paragraph read cancel?
Gene
You haven’t broken it. The command stops at every hard return.
It also stops at a paragraph symbol in a word processor or on an Internet
page. Try using the command in an Internet article. You will see
that it moves by paragraph.
If you use a word processor like Microsoft Word and start a new paragraph,
it will stop at the new paragraph. I almost never use Wordpad but if you
write a long line and press enter the command will move to the line after you
pressed enter and continued to type. I don’t know if that begins a new
paragraph in Wordpad but the command stops at every hard return and it also
stops at a paragraph symbol in a document.

The move by paragraph function in NVDA stops at hard returns. It also
stops at word processor code indicating a paragraph.
If you type perhaps three or four long sentences without pressing enter,
then press enter and type four or five more long sentences, see if the command
works to move you from one paragraph to the next. Since the two hard
returns you used to indicate the start of a new paragraph will be the only hard
returns in the document, you should move by paragraph.

The command does work but if you are in a text editor like Notepad, it
won’t. You have to be in a document such as a web page or a word processor
document where there is code in the document indicating a paragraph;.

Re: is the next paragraph read cancel?
David Griffith
What are you using to read the document in?
The behaviour of control up and down arrow will vary depending on which program you are using. So if I am trying to read text from a book in say Notepad then control down or up arrow will not work for navigation or reading.
If however I copy and paste the exact same text into say Word, Jarte or even WordPad then using control up and down arrow for reading by paragraph suddenly becomes available. This reading method also works on web pages. At least that is what happens here on my Windows 10 setup.
So if you need to read by paragraph you could simply copy and paste the relevant text from Notepad or whatever the program is that is not supporting this navigation into Word or WordPad to regain this behaviour.
