Hi Thanks to everyone for all your kind words! While I was very happy to pass the exam, (as I'm sure all the other NVDA experts world wide were) I am always happy to see any positive publicity for NVDA. Both Mick and James saw the initial big picture when they first started...I'm just happy to be able to do what I can in terms of promoting the NVDA screen reader from here in New Zealand! It benefits a variety of people and they can only benefit from it if they know about it! Really, it's an international team effort (users, developers, bug finders/testers, translators, donors etcetera) that all make NVDA what it is - a community driven screen reader! I'm just glad to be able to help people out in whichever way I can! Thanks again everyone. Gene NZ

Re: Nv Access Checkout Page
Gene
It appears that the first combo box does an odd
thing. With Chrome, I can open the combo box, write the name of a country
in the edit field and press enter. Then, the combo box says the name of
the country I've written. I'm not sure what happens in Firefox, I didn't
try just that procedure when I was testing Firefox. I didn't play with the
second combo box enough to say anything about it. But the first combo box
is seen by Chrome as a combo edit box and for whatever reason, it is completely
nonstandard and I assume the second one is as well. You are placed in an
edit field that isn't in the combo box when you open the combo box. then
you type a country, press enter, and you have to find the combo box again
because you are nowhere near it.

Re: NVDA/Unresponsive Apps
Gene
I see no benefit in putting drives to sleep on a
short term basis except when using a laptop if you intend to leave it on for
extended periods of not being used and you want to save battery power.
Maybe having drives sleep overnight if the computer isn't going to be used makes
sense but then, it would make more sense to have the whole computer sleep.
A drive just sitting there spinning isn't going to put any meaningful wear on
the drive. Spinning down and spinning up a drive repeatedly over the
course of a day puts more wear on it than just leaving it alone. It isn't
likely to cause problems because drives have such a long life cycle for being
spun up and down but it still is unnecessary wear.

Re: Reading password protected image pdf using NVDA OCR
Gene
Whatever the procedure is for recognizing material
with NVDA, it's using a free OCR system. I doubt it's as accurate as a for
profit system. But with any OCR program, where precise figures are
concerned such as an exact numerical amount, while the recognition might be
accurate, I wouldn't trust it. If it sounds correct, it probably is but it
may not be recognized with 100 percent accuracy no matter what OCR program is
used.

A friend has managed to sort out the problem for me, below I sent you a copy of his instructions, thanks for your help.
Hi Anthony,
Do you have the latest version of NVDA (2017.2) installed? If so, please try the following:
* Start NVDA * Turn on Sticky Keys * Press the NVDA key twice quickly (this should lock the NVDA key) * Press F12 twice quickly
And you should hear NVDA speak the date (and not the time).
Press the NVDA key once to unlock.

And the other problem is when I come for example to press the insert plus f12 twice to check the date it doesn’t work.
And that happens also with the other commands that we have to press them once, twice and more to do do certain things.
In my opinion the sticky keys are not working as they should with NVDA.
Can you please do something about it to be resolved?
I hope you will be able to understand what I mean.

Dear NVDA community:
For those on NVDA users and add-ons lists: a few days ago I announced Project Hidden Singer/Big Bang, a project to restructure code in Windows 10 App Essentials and say goodbye to old workarounds. This is partly motivated by the fact that, with NVDA 2017.3, features from this add-on will make their debut as part of the screen reader itself, so the add-on is no longer required for some major tasks. The below announcement is just a first step in this project, with the complete picture emerging by September 2017.
Announcement text:
As part of NVDA 2017.3, NV Access, together with Joseph Lee, a Windows Insider and a noted NVDA expert in United States, have developed a set of features designed to improve user experience for Windows 10 users using NVDA. Prior to the upcoming release, an add-on called Windows 10 app Essentials have included features such as sounds to indicate appearance of search suggestions, announcing top search suggestion in braille and various workarounds for Windows 10 and various universal apps. Joseph, the author of the Windows 10 App Essentials, is delighted to announce that these features will be part of upcoming NVDA 2017.3, scheduled to hit the air sometime in August 2017.
As part of this work, I (Joseph Lee) would like to announce three important things:
Thank you. Cheers, Joseph

Depends on the email client. Most work automatically though.
