Hi guys again
Just in case people from overseas do not know what the APNK (Aotearoa People's Network Kaharoa) is, it is the national library network around New Zealand. The following link will give the locations of the libraries where the screen reader can be used. You can go up to any computer in those libraries on the network and use a copy of NVDA. They also update the copy of NVDA once a year to the latest version at that time. The link to the page and statistics etcetera can be found at http://www.aotearoapeoplesnetwork.org/content/partner-libraries
One of the other links in the news article is about when NVDA went onto this network so that any one who needs adaptive technology could use it if needed.

I had a phone call this morning from a local newspaper who came out to do an interview out of the blue. It is about the first person in New Zealand getting the NVDA expert certification. I was a bit surprised, but pretty happy with the article itself!
The article is about the certificate and some other NVDA related articles and a little bit pointing towards the Accessibility Central website where people can find more information on NVDA and other blindness related topics.
So, hopefully NVaccess has some more hits coming their way as well as the word getting out more about NVDA!

Re: Blog Post: Top 5 NVDA Tips and Tricks You Need To Know
If you read using speak to end, it doesn't matter
how many links there are. Reading is not affected. If you don't use
read to end and down arrow through the text, using screen layout may improve
matters but it makes no sense for people to read in that way.
Screen layout, according to brief comments I saw in
an e-mail list discussion years ago may make web forums easier to navigate but I
strongly believe that the other option, placing links and controls on their own
lines should be the default. Which raises the question of how it's decided
what defaults should be? Clearly, using sounds instead of audio
notification of browse or forms mode is not a good default, considering the
number of new users who will have no idea what such sounds mean and who have
enough trouble learning everything else without having sounds where audio
notification would help far more in learning and reinforcement. Save
settings on exit should not be the default. While learning and
experimenting, users might accidentally save settings they have no intention of
saving. Why are block quotes set to be spoken? Almost no one cares
about such arcane marks.
As I said, who decides these sorts of things.
Defaults should be determined by the needs of inexperienced users. If long
time users don't know how to change such settings, they might get some incentive
to learn more about the program.

Re: An interesting suggestion for NVDA.
Hi Florian,
If you setup NVDA to use the "Laptop" keyboard layout, it uses different keystrokes which don't expect a number pad. Some of the other regular keystrokes are different too, such as NVDA+a to read all (instead of NVDA+down arrow) and NVDA+l to read the current line (rather than NVDA+up arrow). Particularly see the following sections of the User Guide:
The other keys are scattered throughout the User Guide.

Quentin.

Re: Blog Post: Top 5 NVDA Tips and Tricks You Need To Know
Hi Nasrin, Could you try this with a different browser perhaps? The blog is hosted on Wordpress, so I doubt WP would be giving any problems from the server-side. Can someone else please test the functionality of the URL I have provided in my earlier messages? Feedback from a third party may help us in better understanding what exactly is going on. Thanks.

Re: Stratford man becomes New Zealand's expert oninternational screen-reading programme | Stuff.co.nz
Hi Gene! Wow, I just read the article about you in the newspaper there! I am so proud of you, that you can get the word out there about NVDA. I really want to promote the Word like that Here in the united States about NVDA, and so people who work for rehabilitations agencies and so on know just how powerful NVDA is, and it should be considered for a work solution instead of the State of Ohio always buying JAWS for everyone. How do I get started Gene! I am planning on taking the test right after NVDA 2017.3 comes out. After I get certified with NVDA, where should I go from there. I am so happy to be a part of the NVDA list, and to be a part of the NVDA community. I am using NVDA 70 percent of the time now! Have a great one, and congratulations! It does not really matter as if you open the downloads window after a download with control j, then the context menu key will allow you to open containing folder whatever you set it to. I have mine set to C:\arc, but only cos I want to be able to see it from outside the machine. Brian

Try the following
While mozilla fire fox is open go to the menus by pressing the alt key. then go to tools where you have to arrow to the right to get to it.
Then arrow down to options then press the enter key. When the next screen comes up it should land you on the general tab hopefully.
Under the general tab
next tab a few times until you hear nvda say downloads. Just under it it will give you to options. one will be to save your files to save files to downloads which is the first option. The second option is to save it to a specified place and is called always ask you where to save them.. This is the option you might have at present.
Change it back to the first option where it says save files to downloads. They are both radio buttons so you should be able to use the up arrow key to change it to it.
then you should be able to close it after that with the alt + f4 key.
it looks as though as well if under the tools then download tab when you go into it that way it will give you the files you have downloaded, a search thingy where mine is set to downloads and a tree view. you might be able to change the tree view there from what ever yours is set to and point it towards the download folder that way 2. Just locate it then press the enter key on it to save that location i think it should work that way as well.
try the first option first to save it to your downloads folder through the general tab section as mentioned above.
hope the above helps.

Hello Folks,
Let me start this off by saying that Windows 10 is great. I have no
problems with it. However, some parts of it just aren't what they used
to be. Here is a list of programs that make Windows 10 behave more
like Windows 7.
Classic Shell:
Classic Shell gives you the old classic start menu, among other things.
http://www.classicshell.net/
Old Task Manager:
When I first updated from Windows 7 to Windows 10, the first thing
that really irritated me was the new task manager. It was slow,
cumbersome and annoying. So, I found a quick, easy and safe way to get
it back. Just download the file, unzip it, run setup, and let it guide
you through the steps. You should choose full installation, and
uncheck the desktop icon check boxes when they come up. Also, once the
task manager is installed, open it by pressing CTRL+Shift+escape. Next
press alt and locate the "options" menu item. Press enter, and locate
the "Hide When Minimized" option and uncheck it by pressing enter.
Next, press alt again, and find the "View" subMenu. Press enter, and
locate the "Update Speed" subMenu and press enter on it. Set this to
normal by locating the menu item and pressing enter. That's it. You
now have the classic task manager from Windows 7 in Windows 10.
http://www.noahcarver.com/files/tm_cfg_win8-win10.zip
UBitMenu (Not Tested Myself but have heard it works) UBitMenu makes
itself a new tab in your MS Office ribbon menu. Just activate this tab
and you have the classic menus from MS Office 2003 in your up-to-date
copy of MS Office.
Note: Although I have not tested this myself, other users have
reported this works with NVDA.
http://www.ubit.ch/software/ubitmenu-languages/
Ribbon Disabler
Ribbon Disabler removes the ribbon tab from Windows Explorer,
replacing it with the classic menu bar. Download the file, and unzip
it. Next, look at the folder. If you are running a 64-bit copy of
Windows 10, run the file called "Ribbon disabler3 x64". If running a
32-bit copy of Windows 10, run the file called "Ribbon disabler3".
Once the program opens, click the button labeled "Disable Ribbon
Explorer ". The program should ask you to log off. Do so, Next, log
back on... and boom. To uninstall, just run the program you ran
earlier. You will be presented with a button that says "Enable Ribbon
Explorer". Click it. Again, you should be prompted to log off and back
on. Your Windows Explorer should look normal again.
