Richard,

Also, have you restarted the computer?  And I mean using Restart, as if Fast Startup is enabled a shut down is not really a shut down, but Restart forces Windows to reload from disk when it powers up again.

Brian: I had not thought of disabling add-ons. I tried it and the
problem persists. Until someone else reports it or thinks of something
else to try, I will resort to JAWS. Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: could nvda announce entries in the Windows 11 emoji panel?

Hi,

And the log gave me quite a puzzling picture: normally when emoji panel opens and one navigates among emojis, a UIA element selected event is raised by the panel to inform NVDA about item selection. This is not happening on the system where the log came from. I have a virtual machine with Windows 11 Version 21H2 (original release), the version of Windows this user is using, and I do notice UIA element selected event being fired (raised) on my virtual machine, indicating something odd happening with this particular system. Also, not all add-ns are disabled, as disabling all add-ons may provide a better picture for me to look at.

As Brian indicated, the reason why I insist on private log deliveries is to not expose private information in public.

Cheers,

Joseph

Re: NVDA and Office 365 Specifically Microsoft Word Editing Problem

Have you restarted NVDA with Add-Ons disabled then checking if the misbehavior persists?  If you haven't, you need to try that in an attempt to determine whether it may be an add-on, as opposed to NVDA core, that's triggering the issue.

Because no one else has reported this issue, I'm suspecting an add-on will end up being the root cause.

NVDA and Office 365 Specifically Microsoft Word Editing Problem

Richard Wells

I am not sure when this started, but I believe it was upon the first
release of NVDA 2022.2. I wanted to see if anyone else reported it, but
no one has as far as I know. When I arrow around in Microsoft Word, NVDA
doesn't seem to track properly. It is even worse when attempting to
select text with SHIFT+ARROWS. I have done all the trouble-shooting I
know to do including Run COM Registration Fixing tool and restarting
with no change to the condition. NVDA use to be so good while editing
documents. Is there anything else I can try to get things working again
short of using JAWS with MS-Word? In case it helps, Word revision is
showing Microsoft Office version 16.0.15601.20148. the problem is the
same on Windows 10 and 11. In NVDA/settings/advanced, Use UI Automation
to access Microsoft Word document controls Always is set. Would changing
this setting help? If so, what setting should I choose?

If you are considering posting debug logs, or portions of them, here please don't.  We in group administration have finally come very close to snuffing this out entirely, and for good reason.

If an assistant wants a debug log, they should do exactly what Mr. Lee did, and request that it be sent privately.  This is not only to prevent clutter on the group, as most people cannot interpret these logs to begin with, but for member protection.  There are times where logs will contain information that you might not wish to have placed out in public where anyone can see it, and our archives are public.

Given the popularity of Substack, some list members may already use it and may be able to answer the question.

You may want to try to find the item much faster.  If the feature has a

I generally don't do that because I first look for some sort of listen

For example, radio stations often have listen links close to the top of

A podcast, often has a listen link or download link or both, somewhere
around the text discussing the content of the podcast.

Also, I'm not saying you will find a link.  You will likely find a link

not a link, nor a button nor identified as clickable.  It is just the

Hi > Joseph,

I installed Windows App Essentials and also tried disabling all add-ons, as well as changing the Selective Registration UIA option of the NVDA advanced settings panel, the emoji panel doesn't work as expected.

On Sun, Sep 18, 2022 at 10:56 PM, Joseph Lee wrote:

Hi,

In addition to usual version info, can you tell me if this happens with or without Windows App Essentials add-on installed? If Windows App Essentials is not running, it might be due to UIA event registration setting (if set to "selective" or the checkbox is checked (depending on NVDA release), NVDA will not handle events from places other than focused control, which affects Windows 10 emoji panel where NVDA may appear to do nothing when in fact emojis are being selected).

If the page is generally available to the public, once your browser is on the page, issue the command control l.
Then copy the link to the clipboard with control c.
Send a message to the list and in that message, paste the link, using control v.

If there is some reason we shouldn't see the page or hear the audio, such as the audio being intended only to be heard by list members and if it contains private information in some way, you may not want to do this but if the e-mail is sending you to pages available to the public, you may.
