Re: Nvda update and addon update not working

Louise Pfau

Hi.  I performed a manual check for the updates to the add-ons from Joseph that I have installed yesterday because I wasn’t getting the notification from Add-on Updater.  I checked to make sure that I had “automatic check for updates” checked in the “Add-on Updater” settings panel.  I was able to get the updates.  I just did another manual check now, and no updates are available.  I hope this helps

Re: addon updater

Hi,

The author of Add-on Updater himself (I) have experienced this once, and the workaround seems to be to visit addons.nvda-project.org website using your preferred web browser. If NV Access server was offline, chances are that folks would have reported problems with not only Add-on Updater, but NVDA update checks as well, affecting folks who do ask NVDA to check for updates every day. Since it doesn't affect everyone, chances are that the computer (more specifically, the operating system) might be assuming that the web trusts soon to expire security certificate without realizing that it isn't - connecting to websites flagged as secure (such as NV Access website) would inform Windows that the web is safer again.

Cheers,

Joseph

Thanks Steve,

then I'll ask CodeFactory what to do because it doesn't work for me. Just one more question... do you mean the SAPI5 version that you can use with other screen readers or the addon for NVDA which contains Vocalizer voices as well?

Thanks.

The price is 90 EUR.

So, if I continue buying this thing, will it work with my nvda 2021? Or this is it's old website and this product is migrading to new website and I am missing something here?

The Vocalizer Expressive is already compatible with NVDA 2021.2 and will keep compatibility with new versions...

I know the code factory  version, but unfortunately for that version, it's auto language switching is not good. It doesn’t have the switch language base on the Unicode character feature. Meaning for the auto language to work, the document or webpage must be set up with correct language tag. So if for example in notepad, auto language switching will not happen even if I am reading text in another language.

Plus, the code factory version does not have the compact or low quality voices, I prefer that voices rather than the high quality/premium voices, just like on the phones.

So this vocalizer from Tiflotecnia has that things that I want. So wwanting to know whether it will work or not on latest nvda.

Yes, it works with actual version and will keep working with all new versions of NVDA.

Is the voices updated too?

No, not yet.

We plan to update them to version 2, but not yet a scheduled date...

As a general rule, for windows 10, its windows essentials, and addon
updater.
However thats about all I have on the systems I work with.
I mean I have the emote and symbols stuff just in case and the rest is
well for the user.
I'd actually prefer on systems to not have any addons at all
especially the ones I don't use often, but windows 10 and up needs
essentials and therefore updater.
But yeah its really user dependant.

Shaun,

Your post is the perfect example of what I said earlier, and that is,
what's
a "must have" is very often entirely dependent on what you need to do,
where, and with what computer(s).

It's still good to see what various folks are using, with brief
descriptions
of why.

Re: problem in using nvda remote

To add to Christopher’s great suggestions, make sure the person on the other end hasn’t turned down their computer volume, thinking it won’t impact speech on your end. Speaking from experience here! 😊

Cheers

There are a few things I'd do...

Could you go into NVDA's Tools menu, and under Remote, make sure that 'Mute Remote' is not checked in that submenu?

Assuming this is unchecked, could you try NVDA+S on the remote machine to make sure the 'speech mode' is turned on, on 'talk' rather than 'off'?

If all this doesn't solve the issue, the only thing I know you can do is, if possible, restart NVDA and the machine remotely and it should come back up again as expected. If you had a connection issue, then it would have meant that the remote server you're using and/or the computer being controlled was off, or NVDA on that machine was off, but this probably isn't the case here.

Hopefully this helps!

Kind regards,
