Now that you've said what the problem is, try using Firefox for
the time being, for I do it when Chrome is not as reliable as
before.

Hi all you Google users,
I cannot find the "gear" icon on the Google page for setting up a gmail account.
Here is the instruction that I am following:
Step 1: Enable IMAP
You can retrieve your Gmail messages with a client or device that supports IMAP, like Microsoft Outlook or Apple Mail.
1. Sign in to Gmail.
2. Click the gear in the top right .
3. Select Settings.
4. Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
5. Select Enable IMAP.
6. Click Save Changes.
Note: This setting is not available while using the basic HTML view of Gmail. To enable IMAP, use the standard view instead.
Wonderfully clear instructions! However, I am blocked at step 1! I cannot find the "gear" icon on my screen. Can anyone tell me how to do it without sighted assistance, please?
All the best

Re: setting up imap email
In programs, the gear icon very often is identified
by screen-readers as tools.
Evidently, on the Google page, you would look for
some other name. I don't know what that name might be but it might imply
that you can get to settings from there. Maybe something like options or
preferences or something else that implies a relevant category.
I've never set Google up to be used with an

Re: setting up imap email
Brian's Mail list account
That icon is in fact called something else in its accessible text I think. Basically from memory, you need to use the standard view and set up the system from there. I did it for both pop3 and Imap some time back. What was unclear to me was exactly why one would need to switch this on in the first place. Still Google works in mysterious ways who are we to judge. Re: problem with the newest chrome
Brian's Mail list account
well from that error it looks as if nvda is setting the length of the text to less than 1, by setting its end point before its start and assumedly this will mean no text will be seen there. How very peculiar..
I don't use Chrome but can say that in Firefox 48 the bugs I mentioned in that program seem to have been resolved again. The pre releases had some issues about the navigational sounds add on and some other minor irritations. Brian

so, the link is there, only not read by nvda.

i've the newest version of chrome.
the strange is, i've allso an old portable version ant the links
will be displayed as usual.
there, in the old version the links are read by nvda.
in the newest version not at all!
so i think it is a problem of chrome, but other people in this

chrome.
rather strange!

not an accessibility issue and I suspect it isn't a
general problem with Chrome. A sighted person
probably wouldn't see links either and an error
message is generated by Chrome, something that would
not happen if this were an accessibility issue. Try
uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome. You may have
gotten a bad update.
Also, since only one
other person has reported an unclear problem with
Chrome and certain links, that further supports the
possibility that this is not a general Chrome problem.

Re: problem with the newest chrome
Brian's Mail list account
I seem to recall, that Chrome has some versions which do not update themselves. At any rate it should be possible to stop it. I did this for Drive for a while till they fixed that log in focus issue a few months back, but have forgotten how I did it now. I steer clear of software that updates itself for no reason as it could upset data limits and costs via mobile dongles if this is allowed to occur right across the board. Certainly there seems to be a way to stop this in Windows 10 now by invoking that you are connected by a metered connection. Brian

Hi all you Google users, I cannot find the “gear” icon on the Google page for setting up a gmail account. Here is the instruction that I am following: Step 1: Enable IMAP You can retrieve your Gmail messages with a client or device that supports IMAP, like Microsoft Outlook or Apple Mail. 1. Sign in to Gmail. 2. Click the gear in the top right . 3. Select Settings. 4. Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP. 5. Select Enable IMAP. 6. Click Save Changes. Note: This setting is not available while using the basic HTML view of Gmail. To enable IMAP, use the standard view instead. Wonderfully clear instructions! However, I am blocked at step 1! I cannot find the “gear” icon on my screen. Can anyone tell me how to do it without sighted assistance, please?
