Re: NVDA not reading Spell Checker fields
Cearbhall O'Meadhra
Quentin,
The keystroke NVDA+b is the only tool that gives me the erroneous field.
It starts at the top of the dialog and, when it comes to “Not found in dictionary” if repeats this twice followed by “alt plus” and then repeats “not found in dictionary” once more followed by the erroneous text and then continues on to read to the bottom of the dialog.
This is the only time when the erroneous word is spoken. It is not available when I use the numpad to review the text even though NVDA+b has spoken it. Yet, the offered correction is available in all modes of review.
Any ideas?
All the best,
Cearbhall

Use the review cursor to read the previous text to get the misspelled word, and you can also read forward further down the pane to get the dictionary meaning of replacement words.
To read the context of the spelling error, the best option is to press escape to go back to the document, read the line / sentence / etc, and press F7 to go back to spell check again (or F6 to move back to the pane).
Here's the section of the User Guide on the review cursor: http://www.nvaccess.org/files/nvda/documentation/userGuide.html?#ReviewingText
I'm almost finished writing the Word for NVDA course and included a topic on several methods for using the spell check, including activities. The Word course isn't available yet although the basic training for NVDA course is which covers the review cursor etc - see: http://www.nvaccess.org/shop/

Quentin,
Thanks for the Response!
I cannot get the review cursor to read the whole dialog of the spell Check. The Object review latches on to the object in focus within the dialog and reports only that line which is in focus. For instance, at the top of the dialog, the review includes the heading and the line “Spelling and Grammar: English (United States) Not in Dictionary:” but no sign of the actually erroneous word. There si also no explanation of the the offered solution anywhere in the dialog.
I wonder if you would be available to facetime me at the +353 8333 23487 so that we can go through this and you can see the results. I am available now if you wish.

Since I recently upgraded to Office 2016, I find that NVDA does not speak some of the essential fields in the Spell Checker. Particularly, the text that has not been found in the dictionary. The heading is there but I cannot see what text is being held. When I hit tab, NVDA speaks the suggested correction. Sometimes, I can guess which text is being amended but not always.
If I press F7 whilst editing the message, NVDA will track the spell check pointer and bring the focus to the erroneous word. If I press escape, interrupting the spell check, I usually find the focus point on the erroneous word. I have the Spell check set to activate automatically when I press send, just in case I have missed a typo as I normally do!. In this case, if I interrupt the Spell Check in order to see if I can see which word is causing the problem, I land at the beginning or end of the document but nowhere near the erroneous word. So, I thought I would ask my helpful friends on the list if anyone can suggest anything that I can do about getting the spell check to speak the erroneous text while running?

Re: How to reach cookie warning banners in Windows 10
Gene
Are you saying that at times b works and at
times k does? If that is the case, it implies that this is shown at times
as a button and at times as a link. I don't know how you use review on web
pages but if you use it for more than problems such as a link that you can't
activate from the keyboard, for example, or an embedded object you can't
activate from the keyboard, then you are likely using it too much.
Using browse and ways to find things in browse mode
such as find and quick navigation commands is usually much more efficient and I
usually try such methods before trying review. usually much more
efficient.

Re: How to reach cookie warning banners in Windows 10

Then perhaps this is shown to European users and
not to others. In addition, if you are describing a real button, you
should be able to find it with the command b. Have you tried that?
When working with web sites, using review is usually not needed and there are
usually other better ways to find things. I suspect that, if this isn't a
real button, you could find whatever word you are looking for more easily and
quickly by using the NVDA find and searching for the word close. There is
no way for me to check what you are describing and try my suggestions but they
may be useful.

Windows 10 I have figured this out - see below - but thought I should clarify things
for those kind enough to stimulate my brain with suggestions.
The reason for the banners appearing is an EU ruling that every website has
to seek your approval for its use of cookies. There is some text, a link to view
their cookie policy and a button or link which dismisses the banner and adds a
cookie so it doesn't come up again.
F6 does not help, as the banner is typically an element of the web page - I
want to remove it because it often obscures part of the web page's
contents.
I am using Chrome on Windows 10, but it doesn't matter which browser is
used.
Here is a link to a site for which I struggled to find the banner, to
dismiss it, but I have finally figured out that using ctrl plus home or ctrl
plus end will usually find the banner and I can then use Review to find the
button or link which closes the banner. The link is to www.rightmove.co.uk
But the question is why is this being seen?
Also, it isn't clear whether this is a part of a web page or something displayed
by the browser. F6 will only be useful if the item is displayed as certain
kinds of structures by the browser and not by the web page itself. We
don't know. We need more information. If possible, a link to one of
the pages where this occurs should be given. List members need to see if
they see the item when going to the page. This may be something that
a browser settings change will correct. Or it may not. Whatever it
is, we need more information.
