I have carefully tried your method again and I cannot get the results you describe.
The only difference in our configuration is that you are using Office 365 whereas I am using Office 2016 professional. I made a mistake earlier about my NVDA version and, in fact, I am using the same version as you are: 2016 version 2.1.
Could the different Office programs cause such a difference?

When I press f7, the spell check pane ("Proofing toolbar") opens and the focus jumps to the "ignore" button. To read the misspelled word I can press NVDA+num pad 4.
After the "Add" button, the focus moves to the first of the alternative words (if any). The next two items are "Change" and "Change all" and press NVDA+num pad 6 past that change button, the review cursor moves to a text label with the currently chosen alternative word, followed by a button to have it spoken, then a dictionary explanation of the word.
Note if you are using laptop layout, replace:
NVDA+num pad 4 with NVDA+shift+left arrow and NVDA+num pad 6 with NVDA+shift+right arrow

Yep you definitely want to be careful with updating drivers and you absolutely don't want to download them from any old random site. If you know the manufacturer of the device you're looking for, my onboard sound is by Realtek, my webcam is by Logitech, for instance, then you can look up those companies. When I search for Realtek for instance, the first thing that comes up is an ad for realtek drivers at driverinstaller dot com - I don't know who they are but I'm definitely not going near them! http://www.realtek.com.tw/ is actually the company. From a search for logitech, the first result is the company - logitech.com - if I changed my search to "logitech drivers" then again that suspicious driverinstaller comes up as the first result. For the most part, you can likely get away with the Windows drivers, it's really only if something isn't working 100% like you are finding with your sound (which may be a Skype issue or maybe a driver issue or may be something else entirely) that it becomes worth looking at. Another thing to try re the skype issue actually could be a google search for the problem you are having: "Skype dropping calls XYZ webcam" for instance. I've had a problem with my Logitech C300 webcam for a couple of years now - the very first time I talk to someone on it (whether on Skype or Mumble or something else), I sound like a chipmunk to the other party. After searching high and low, it seems it's a well known issue with this webcam and logitech aren't too interested in fixing it. I worked out if I disable then reenable the webcam (from the recording devices) before making a call, it works fine. The quality of the webcam is fine for what I use it for other than that, or I'd more urgently look at a newer model.

I am able to read the misspelled text using object navigation. Quentin has explained it nicely so I will not repeat his explanation. I root the current cursor to the focus and then press insert+number pad 4 to read the misspelled word.

I am using Office 2016 under Windows 10 with NVDA 2016.1.
Since I recently upgraded to Office 2016, I find that NVDA does not speak some of the essential fields in the Spell Checker. Particularly, the text that has not been found in the dictionary. The heading is there but I cannot see what text is being held. When I hit tab, NVDA speaks the suggested correction. Sometimes, I can guess which text is being amended but not always.
If I press F7 whilst editing the message, NVDA will track the spell check pointer and bring the focus to the erroneous word. If I press escape, interrupting the spell check, I usually find the focus point on the erroneous word. I have the Spell check set to activate automatically when I press send, just in case I have missed a typo as I normally do!. In this case, if I interrupt the Spell Check in order to see if I can see which word is causing the problem, I land at the beginning or end of the document but nowhere near the erroneous word. So, I thought I would ask my helpful friends on the list if anyone can suggest anything that I can do about getting the spell check to speak the erroneous text while running?

Hi Joseph,
The issue is simply that NVDA does not speak the erroneous word in the spell checker in Outlook 2016. The rest of the dialog is read out. Also the proposed correction is read out in both focus mode and review mode.
The only time that NVDA seems to be able to speak the erroneous word is within the flow of text from NVDA+b.
I am sorry to hear that this is a known problem since everyone else today has been insisting that it is not a problem! I can confirm that it is definitely a problem on my system.

Use the review cursor to read the previous text to get the misspelled word, and you can also read forward further down the pane to get the dictionary meaning of replacement words.
To read the context of the spelling error, the best option is to press escape to go back to the document, read the line / sentence / etc, and press F7 to go back to spell check again (or F6 to move back to the pane).

Hi Ame, I haven't tried Oovoo, but just on Skype, two things to check: - Have you tried doing a test call to the Echo / Sound test service to see if your call sounds ok there? If so, are the problem calls to the same people? Maybe there is an issue somewhere in between you (or on their end). - Have you tried updating your audio / webcam drivers from the manufacturers website? Sometimes Windows 10 particularly will update drivers and doesn't always do a good job of it - and Windows 10 also won't automatically always update drivers which can also cause problems. a question. I like Skype but, lately, I’ve been getting a considerable
number of dropped calls and fuzzy connections. We’ve had quite a bit of
stormy weather lately but, even on a good day, drops and bad connections happen
more than they used to. I was checking on alternatives to Skype and found
Oovoo. It sounds promising but how well does it work with NVDA? Has
anybody ever created an Addon for it? I did see an audio boom entry from a
blind woman who uses it on her Iphone but I wanna do it on my pc and my Galaxy
S6. Oh yes, I also heard Oovoo’s sound quality is superior to skype.
Hmm. Anyway, I’d appreciate any tips, including more stable preferably
free alternatives to skype, anybody can give me. Thanks so

I use the free version of Spam Reader to get rid of spam. The Professional version doesn't have this disclaimer in outgoing emails. Try Spam Reader for free now!

Use the review cursor to read the previous text to get the misspelled word, and you can also read forward further down the pane to get the dictionary meaning of replacement words.
To read the context of the spelling error, the best option is to press escape to go back to the document, read the line / sentence / etc, and press F7 to go back to spell check again (or F6 to move back to the pane).
