When you press F6, then shift tab until you hear a message about trackers. When you get to that message, press right arrow twice, and you should get to the manager sharing settings button. From there, press either space or enter, and you will see a block button and an allow button.

In addition to what I said in my previous message, it appears you don't have to have the audio playing.  It does appear that you have to have played at least a bit of audio in the application and then left it opened.  Open the application, play a bit of audio, then stop it if you wish.
Open the volume control and tab through the fields.  You should see the application and its control.

What happens if you try? If you cannot find the app then go to sounds in control panel, and tab to advanced and find your app there.

I'm giving desktop commands.  I don't know the laptop ones.

To move forward by object, the command is numpad insert numpad 6.  To move back by object, the command is numpad insert numpad 4.  Try moving a number of times in both directions.

If you find the button, use the command numpad insert numpad enter to see if you can activate it in that way.  Numpad enter is the long key on the right row of the numpad at the bottom of the numpad.  There are two long keys and enter is the bottom one.  Plus is the long key above it.

Re: help with firefox and NVDA

The reason is that you are not in a web page, you are in the address bar.  Therefore, you are not in browse mode and quick navigation commands won't work.  If you type a letter, you will remove the address from the address bar and the letter b will be there.  When you are on highlighted text and type something, the highlighted text is removed and replaced by what you have typed.

Yes, Gene, I expect down arrow to run by line; control-down arrow to go by paragraph.

but my documents still read in wide paragraph swaths with my down arrow.

I figured that the control down arrow was the wrong advice, but I cited it only to show what had been said.

On 6/11/2022 10:37 AM, Gene wrote:

Control down arrow has been for a long time, the move by paragraph command in Windows programs where you move through text.  Your advice was completely the opposite of  what is the case.  Just down arrow is move by line.

But we don't know what program you are having the problem with.  In general, programs like Notepad and Word have a feature called word wrap.  If it is off, you might move with the down or up arrow and hear a lot of text spoken.  If you tell us which program you are using, we can tell you how to turn word wrap on.

It makes the length of lines you move by a certain length no matter how long the lines actually are.

but it did not work.
I need a line of text at a time, as I do a lot of proofreading with speech and punctuation on.  I must have done something to change a setting that would go from line to line, but I don't know what I did.

Any help appreciated.

Re: why can't I turn on caret browsing?

Me thinks your NVDA key isn't working properly. This sometimes happens
to me, but more likely in System Access than NVDA. Usually a restart
of the screen reader fixes this. As for how to get the browser to ask
about carrot browsing again, I don't know as usually when that dialog
pops up I just hit escape and try links list again.
