Spot on. I had probably turned it off on accident, and having re-enabled it on your recommendation, output is auto-read at least in Command Prompt. Much appreciated. Thanks.

Go to NVDA, Preferences, Settings, Object presentation. Set progress bar output to beep and uncheck report progress bars and see what that does.

Orbit writer and nvda
Guy Schlosser
Hey all, first of all happy new year! I have a question. I am working with a client on using NVDA, or Jaws, with the orbit Writer. I am having trouble with both products, and wondering if anyone has the answer. How do you enter commands, such as alt plus F4, or navigate through the start menu using the orbit writer? I can get into the start menu, but cannot navigate it. Is it possible to use this device as a keyboard without a QWERTY keyboard hooked to the system? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check to see if report dynamic content changes is on. It is by
default but it may have been turned off by a typing error. The command to
toggle it on or off is NVDA 5, 5 on the main keyboard.

Subject: [nvda] Reading Output in Programming Environments
Automatically Dear
all, I am using NVDA 2021.3.1 on Windows 10. When using the Command Prompt or Windows Subsystem for Linux, NVDA does not auto-read the output on pressing Enter. This means that I need to use the review cursor to manually inspect the output each time. I do not recall experiencing this behaviour in the past. I ran the COM registration fixing tool and restarted with add-ons disabled without success. Is there a work-around or patch to enable NVDA to auto-read output? I would truly appreciate all suggestions and inputs on this. Best Regards, Bhavya Shah Stanford University | Class of 2024 LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/bhavyashah125/

Re: NVDA remote question help needed
Gene
Since it happens on one machine and since this seems to be an uncommon or
very uncommon problem, I suspect there is a problem with the machine. I’m
not saying there is something wrong with it, but perhaps it is running something
that causes the behavior;. You may need help that goes beyond the
knowledge of the list. My question is whether there is any support option
to get help for obscure problems like this.

Thanks for answering. Well, deleted my remote.ini file, checked progress bars on all machines and they are not enabled. There are two machines I connecting with at work. One works fine, but when I connect to one machine at work, the progress bars keep being announced and the only way I can stop them on local or remote machine is to disconnect my remote connection. Very strange.

While I doubt this will solve the problem, try turning off report dynamic
content changes. It’s a toggle, NVDA 5, 5 on the main keyboard.

s m*. Progress bars are not checked on either machine. I've figured out that it
only happens on one work machine I connect to, but once those progress bars are
being read, it continues to read them until I disconnect remote. Progress bars

Re: Tony's add-ons: updates and new features
Gene
This opens help information for add-ons in general. I’m not sure that
every add-on has help available in this way, but they generally do.
New steps begin on new lines.
Open tools in the NVDA menu.
down arrow to manage add-ons and press enter, and find the add-on in the
list.
Then tab until you get to a help button and press the
space bar.
I believe this usually opens the web page where you
downloaded the add-on and the page usually has a description of how to use the
add-on and available commands.

Re: question about NVDA and the Windows login screen
First, this is going to become my standard practice in 2022, so it's not aimed at you, specifically. Every NVDA user needs to know how to bring up the NVDA User Guide when questions like this arise: NVDA + N, H, U [NVDA Menu, Help, User Guide]
In the User Guide, search on just the phrase "windows start" and you're right in the middle of the discussion of enabling the setting in General settings to do just that. Now I'll give the answer: NVDA + CTRL + G opens the NVDA General Settings. So does NVDA + N, P, S (Since General settings are the initial Settings tab/pane displayed) In the General settings there is a checkbox for, Use NVDA during sign-in (requires administrator privileges). If you have admin privilege, and check this checkbox, NVDA should become active on the Windows sign-in screen the next time you have to sign-in to windows. -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H2, Build 19044 The instinctive need to be the member of a closely-knit group fighting for common ideals may grow so strong that it becomes inessential what these ideals are. ~ Konrad Lorenz (1903-1989)

Yes. If you go to preferences and then press enter on the settings option, you should see a checkbox that says use NVDA during sign in under the general category. Remember that you need to have administrator access on the machine in question for this to work.
