Hi Betina,

Try the following to uninstall your problem program.

1.  Open the run dialogue with windows key + r.
2.  type the following:
shell:appsfolder
and press enter.

This will open an old style programs and features type interface familiar to users of Windows 7 and earlier.
It is in a Windows explorer Window.
3.  use up/down arrow keys or first letter navigation to highlight the name of the problem program.
4.  use the context menu windows context key or shift + F10) to bring up options for the program.
5.  If this is not a program native to Windows, one of them should be uninstall.
6.  Press enter on the uninstall item and follow the prompts.

see if this enabled you to uninstall the program.

HI,

NVDA2021.2beta1 version seems to have improved the registration tool, can you give it a try?

Cheers

Re: Shortcut commands stopping working in NVDA

Louise Pfau

I’ve had the CONTROL key stick intermittently with both JAWS and NVDA, but I think it’s an unintentional software sticking keys here.  The only way that I can get it to come unstuck is by cycling through the available keyboard languages with CONTROL+SHIFT, but then it happens again.  I don’t know what the fix would be on the part of Windows, and that’s outside the scope of this group.

kill two birds with one stone and uninstall MathPlayer to see what

Well, it indeed broke things. When Firefox comes up initially I get
the normal read of the address bar, but whenever it loads a page I
get "unknown", and silence with tabbing.

Please read carefully!

I have run the com registration tool. Twice. I have restarted. I have
UAC turned off and it must have run with admin rights because it
didn't ask for anything and said it finished.

My next idea is to generate a portable copy with all addons,
uninstall, and then reinstall from the portable copy. But I'm not
sure if that will work because I have no idea what's broken. anybody
have a fix for this?

Re: MathPlayer broke NVDA and Firefox.

Gene

It sounds as though the registration tool isn’t correcting the problem, at least in your case.  Do you have system restore ;points?  If this is a registry problem, running a restore point before you uninstalled math player will likely correct the problem.

I’ll add that that is no reason not to install Math Player.  It means that if you install it, you shouldn’t uninstall it.  There is no reason to uninstall it.  Just don’t use it if you don’t want to.  You can disable add-ons and leave them installed if the add-on is doing something you don’t want.

Uninstalling Microsoft Office causes problems with NVDA but people wouldn’t not install it for that reason.

Re: How to update speech dictionary entries and configuration profiles on a portable version of NVDA?

Giles Turnbull

Hi Luke, and sory for the delay in replying to your question. Yes, you copy the default.dic file from appdata/roaming/NVDA/Speechdicts and you paste it into exactly the same location on your other device. Of course, there'll already be a default.dic file in there, but you can either overwrite that existing one or rename it to something like default_orig.dic ... NVDA will use the new default.dic file but you can revert back to the original one if you need. The new dictionary file will become active the next time you re-start NVDA.

Yes, it is a text file in as much as it can be opened and read in Notepad, but it is a .dic file. It is similar to a csv file (comma-separated values) format that worksheets from Excel can be exported as and read in Notepad ... in a CSV file the commas indicate a column boundary. In an NVDA .dic file it indicates the different options available in the speech dictionary dialogue ... pattern, replacement, comment, case sensitive etc.

Hope that helps,

Giles

Hi Pranav,

I have the same feeling about the slow running problem you mentioned, but I didn’t find a related issue. There is a more serious issue on github. I don't know if it also bothers you. However, NVAccess did not comment on this, and I hope more people will pay attention to these issues. https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/12108
