Reminder to Members about using most recent versions where possible
#adminnotice
Hello All,
This is a reminder about the group rule about NVDA software, in particular, but others in general: Upgrade to the latest version of NVDA before posting questions. For all other software, please do the same when possible, but where not be sure you are using a version currently in support. At the moment there are pending messages asking about version 2019.3, which needs to be updated to 2020.4 to see if that fixes the issue, first. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 20H2, Build 19042 Always remember others may hate you but those who hate you don't win unless you hate them. Re: ObjPad 21.04.1 and Resouce Monitor 21.04/21.04.1 released
#addonrelease
Hi, Apologies for CC mishap in an earlier post. Important note on ObjPad add-on: version 21.04.1 is an emergency release – I (the add-on author) am no longer maintaining this add-on. Cheers, Joseph

Hi all, ObjPad and Resource Monitor add-on updates are now available. These updates prepares the add-on to support newer NVDA releases. For folks using Resource Monitor, depending on update channel, you’ll get 21.04 (dev) or 21.04.1 (stable) – don’t worry, as these versions are identical.
Key highlights:
As always, these updates can be fetched via Add-on Updater. Cheers, Joseph

In fact, this problem plagues many NVDA users, not only uninstalling Office, even if you uninstall Mathplayer, it will also cause this to happen.
I think the Com registration repair tool is not reliable. This requires improvement by NVAccess. The following may help you: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/2807#issuecomment-320149243

It may be a good idea to install a stable version rather than using alphas, until the issue has been resolved

I've done every thing you said. I'm sure it's missing a dll. I need to know which it is.

I've remove nvda and re-install the newest alpha-22295,49a85788.Did you run SFC and DISM as Brian explained? Because it is sounding more and more like a Windows problem. But still run the COM Reg Fix Tool a second time. -- Luke "In this life there are obstacles, and forces who overcome obstacles. You can be either one or the other. Re: NVDA doesn't read context menu
I would suggest not using the alpha. Try installing 2020.4 and see if the issue persists. Report back on if it does/does not.

Re: NVDA doesn't read context menu
Gene
Did you run the registration tool again, as was suggested? If that doesn't work, do you have system restore points? Runnning a restore point from before you uninstalled Office will likely correct whatever problem the uninstallation caused. Then, regardless of wheteher Office programs work or not, leave them installed.

Re: Layers and NVDA
Desert Moon
Hello All,
I use ZoomText 2020 at work. ZT offers a bunch of layered hotkeys. Here is the definition: Tip: A layered keystroke reduces the number of keys that you need to hold down at once to perform an action. To type a layered keystroke, press and release CAPS LOCK+SPACEBAR, followed by the appropriate keystroke to perform the action. https://www.freedomscientific.com/training/zoomtext/zoomtext-hotkeys/ -- Desert

The gesture is only there, if the add-on is there to create it. When you have the add-on disabled, it isn't there to create the gesture.

Yep. I deleted the one I wanted, added the one I wanted and it should work. A note to self though, if you disable the add on, the input gesture for that add on will not show up. It took me about 15 minutes to figure that one out.

You must add a new one, then the original and the new one will both work if you keep both, but after you add the new one you remove the existing one if you don't want it. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 20H2, Build 19042 Always remember others may hate you but those who hate you don't win unless you hate them. Oh, the nvda modifier has to be included when reassigning the gestures? I have not had a need to go in there, until today. You can go into the Input Gestures dialog and reassign any key you want.

Simply go in and redefine the speech history keys to use the NVDA modifier and some other keys.
