When is the last time you exited NVDA and started it again?  Unless I'm imagining things, I only get these notifications from Add-On Updater when I am starting up NVDA, and even then only once per day if (or some day-ish length period) if I decide to skip them.  If I exit and restart NVDA for around 24 hours after a "no thanks" response I'm not asked again.

Nope – 21.04 will be offered automatically if you do ask Add-on Updater to check for updates to this add-on.

Hi Joseph.  When version 21.03 was released, we were instructed to remove it from the list of add-ons being checked by “Add-on updater” because it was a manual update.  Is this true of 21.04?

Over the past few days I haven’t been able to get the synth ring to work to change speed etc. on the fly. I’ve just run the NVDA diagnostic with no change. Does anyone have any ideas?

In an elevated command prompt . . .
Try running an:  SFC /scannow
then follow that with a:  DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Then see what happens afterward.

Yes I am aware of this method to define column and row headings. I just do not understand why this method is necessary for having column headings announced in a simple table in Excel. Both Jaws and Narrater (I think) will announce Excel table column headings without first manually defining them.

Have you tried the COM Registration Fixing tool, followed by a reboot, instead of reinstalling NVDA?

2002 is relevant?

I can attest to that with nvda and voiceover. I thought though jaws did say "pastes the contents of the clipboard," etc. Or at least this was the case in 2002 with jaws 3.1.

Note well what follows the word "and."  CTRL+V is not an NVDA Command, it is a Windows Command.  My understanding of both NVDA Help and its JAWS analog are that each will only present descriptions of key sequences that are associated with the screen reader functions, and nothing else.  Windows functions are not part of JAWS or NVDA nor are specific program shortcuts that the screen reader is interacting with.  I'd expect that giving any shortcut sequence not associated with NVDA itself will result in silence.
