Overloaded lines etc. Even though I have fibre, these days especially the net is really used. Sometimes my echo responces take 20 seconds to come accross. Data can take some time to get from place to place. I have had a few things like that. I am still getting the data at the right speed but its all from outside. I suspect because of covid among other things the international networks are just getting used. So much of the net depends on cloud infrastructure well. If thats not the case either of you could be using wrong channels for wireless. You can get an idea of what everyone uses with something like wifiinfoview from nersoft. You will have to change your channels on your router yourself, they are all different. Then there is the placement of wireless hardware. I have laptops and so do others I remote for. Laptops are fine, but if you have a desktop and use a standard internal card, depending where the unit is or even where the card is you can get poor quality. On a desktop I used the unit was close but under a desk under the user the wireless card was at the bottem of the case and that was enough to really play havoc with audio. The user changed to a usb dongle placed on top of the same unit and there was no issue after that. If you do not use fibre, the same thing could apply with cable. If you still use copper then they are not as strong as fibre, I used to get noisy lines and broken connections needing someone to fix more often than I would care for. When I got the latest one 2 years back the isp simply switched me to fibre and I got a better plan and that be it. If you happen to use mobile wireless broadband signals and congestion can vary widely.

I have retitled this topic for archival purposes and clarity. We've had, over time NVDA Remote topics coming out our ears, so a more specific title than "NVDA Remote," that includes something about the issue/question is really necessary now.

NVDA Remote - Frequent disconnects and freezing
Robert Doc Wright godfearer
What would cause the addon to
frequently disconnect? it is fine on my pc to laptop. I was working with a
friend in Kentucky and we worked for over three hours because it kept
disconnecting.Sometimes it would freeze if I stopped to speak to the client
about something. I say freeze because it did not give the disconnect tone but I
still could not do anything from my end but the client still had
access.

Does the Frontier Airlines sit'e do this? I spent a bit of time yesterday trying to figure out why that site behaves so badly on a Mac with Safari. Though I have to say it worked much better with Firefox on the Mac which is weird since 6 months ago one could not use Firefox with Voiceover.

Question about using the elements list on a page with a large quantity of information
Louise Pfau
Hi. I was trying to browse through the list of authors under W on
Project Gutenburg using the NVDA 2020.4 elements list, and it didn’t announce
that it was open. I don’t know if this is because it was trying to process
a large quantity of information. This might happen on other websites, so
the subject line wasn’t specific to 1 website. I googled Project
Gutenburg, since the shortcut I had in my favourites was out-of-date. Has
anyone else come across something like this with other sites?
Thanks,

Re: Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and Latest NVDA Beta?
Well I tried adobe reader 64 bit and access wize, forget it.
The program sure that works. Open a file and it will load then close itself. I went back to standard 32 bit and it works. One thing to note, if you don't want bogged down systems there are syncing things that activate if you sign in. I don't think there is any extras you gain with the free version unless you want to convert online and there are ways getting round that. Saying all that, adobe acrobat will actually do a good job of reading properly structured web content inside pdfs so if they are done right actual web pages will be loaded for you to brouse as normal inside the reader which can actually be cool.

Re: Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and Latest NVDA Beta?
Chris,
Then the question becomes: Is anything misbehaving from a functional standpoint for you, the end user, with NVDA or Acrobat Reader DC? There are errors that are critical, and errors that are not. I've had many occasions with betas where a cycle of retries, in very rapid succession, produces exactly what you're experiencing now. But whatever the error is must not be critical, because I can continue along just like nothing happened. Remember that the beta software is "much more vocal" about signaling these sorts of errors than released software is. You might be able to fire up 2020.4, and check your log, and find precisely the same batch of errors. Errors have to rise to a certain level of criticality before the production releases will report them to a user. The beta versions will give you a signal for each and every error logged, regardless of its level of criticality. But what's been shared is likely to get a couple of sets of review and the issue addressed if need be. -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H1, Build 19043 I do not understand why some seek to separate a person from their actions. I had hoped, after Quentin's having pointed out that the Code Factory Eloquence add-on is the only one that's legally available, that discussion on the illegal IBM one would stop, but no.
What gets discussed privately and out of sight is none of my business. But discussion of hacked/cracked/pirated software is expressly forbidden both by the NVDA Group rules and Groups.io Terms of Service. Please do not revive this topic, in any form, on the group again. Having now found and gone to the home page of the site you mention, I am
not moved to the privacy link. Are you working with the home page?
There is a search field on the page but you don’t tell us which page you are
working with. I don’t know if I am looking at the same page.
If people are discussing a problem on a web site, they should copy the link
to the page from the address bar and paste it into the message so we don’t have
to search for the site and also so we know we are on the page you are
discussing.
Once we know what page is being discussed, I hope people will see if they
have this problem. We need to see if it is a general problem or a problem
you are having for some reason that doesn’t affect others.

Subject: [nvda] Websites that determine where NVDA starts
at Hi
all, I apologise for the rather clunky and undescriptive subject line!
I have found several websites shift the NVDA cursor to the website's privacy settings link when the page loads. I experience this most with the Sainsbury's supermarket website. after I have searched for an item and added it to my basket, when I return to the search page, NVDA gets repositioned to the Heding 3 that is We value your privacy, which is right at the bottom of the webpage, with only the Cookie Settings links below it. Of course it's easy to press CTRL+Home to jump straight back up to the top of the webpage, but I find it a pain when I have to do it thirty times during the course of doing my weekly shop. I can't remember off the top of my head, which other websites have this behaviour, but it is quite a few. Simple question ... is there any way to stop a website from doing this to NVDA, or any NVDA setting that can stop this happening? I am using NVDA 2020.4 and it is happening with Firefox 89.0.1 and also in Chrome. Thanks, Giles |

Re: Websites that determine where NVDA starts at
Gene
I doubt it. this sounds to me like a misapplication of JAVA
script. when it is used properly to move to a position, it performs tasks
like automatically place the user in the search field when on the google search
page. This sounds like some illogical behavior, dreamed up by who knows
who for who knows what reason.
I wonder what the most efficient way is to deal with the problem. Are
there any add-ons for NVDA that allow you to specify a place on the page you can
return to with one command? it sounds as though you want to return to the
edit field.

Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and Latest NVDA Beta?
Wow. When I launch Acrobat I hear the NVDA error sound multiple times in quick succession. The log shows many entries like the following:
ERROR - RPC process 10784 (AcroRd32.exe) (10:06:56.088) - Dummy-26 (13792): Thread 12332, build\x86\remote\COMProxyRegistration.cpp, registerCOMProxy, 182: Unable to register interface ISimpleDOMDocument with proxy stub ISimpleDOM.dll, code -2147023156 There are dozens of those in my log. Anyone else have a similar experience? Chris |
