Re: Looking for a certified NVDA trainer in Canada

Have you talked to the company (or developers) about the accessibility of the package? As others have asked, do you know if it uses Jaws scripts to enable it to work with Jaws? If regular navigation isn't getting you around the software, are you familiar with the review cursor and object navigation? They are NVDA concepts for moving around text and objects which is otherwise inaccessible with normal navigation. You can find them in the User Guide: https://www.nvaccess.org/files/nvda/documentation/userGuide.html#NavigatingWithNVDA but if you are not already familiar with them, I'd strongly recommend the Basic Training for NVDA which goes into much more depth on them and has exercises and activities to practice your skills: https://www.nvaccess.org/product/basic-training-for-nvda-ebook/ Kind regards Quentin. Re: Here we go again!
I just want to add to Quentin's observations that they do not apply exclusively to NVDA. The general purposes of alpha, beta, release candidate, and stable releases of software are the same no matter what the software or who makes it. Some makers do not use (for the public, anyway) alpha or release candidate steps. The "public testing" version is the beta, and there can be several betas as different kinks get worked out.
The idea that either alpha or beta software are "sneak peeks for the curious" with no obligation on the part of those who elect to use them to report issues needs to die a very quick death. Alphas are generally for the development community, almost exclusively, with betas being for the end user community that's willing to put up with instability and bugs, and report those, as part of getting an advance look at what's happening next. -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H1, Build 19043 The ignorance of one voter in a democracy impairs the security of all. ~ John F. Re: Here we go again!
Quentin Christensen
We encourage most users to use release candidate builds - unless people point out issues, then basically the release candidate will be identical to the final stable build - it is easier, for various reasons, for us to try to fix something in a release candidate build, than two weeks later in the final stable build. Beta versions we are happy for people to test if they are confident they can get back to their stable version. Alpha versions are really not designed for most users to use. As noted in the thread here, things can break (deliberately or inadvertently) and we don't guarantee stability in alpha builds - though of course we DO want to know about any issues you encounter with those builds :) Kind regards Quentin. Hi Janet, I'm by no means a certified NVDA trainer or anything of that sort, but I think it'd be useful to know just a bit more information. Maybe this is something NV Access (aka Quentin) may need to assist with? I don't know.
First of all, just out of curiosity you're just using a demo version of JAWS to try it out, right? Second, are any JAWS scripts being used to interact with the program? Third, so am I correct in saying that the program works well with JAWS but NVDA cannot read or find the dialogues, buttons, controls, etc? I believe many programs these days have native keyboard commands or at least the controls are usually visible no matter what screen reader is in use. Also, it may be worth speaking to the developers of the program so it can be easily used with any screen reader.

Looking for a certified NVDA trainer in Canada
Janet Brandly
Hello,
I am looking for someone in Canada certified in NVDA training to work with me to see whether there is any way to use NVDA with the proprietary software used by the company I contract for. The program is supposedly only compatible with JAWS which I am using now. I have tried NVDA with no success. NVDA is so much faster and more responsive. I would really like to be able to use it if possible. This would involve sharing my screen as the software is tied to my computer. If this is something that you may be able to help me with, please contact me directly at jbrandly@.... I will compensate you for your time.
Thank you,
Janet Brandly |

Hi. The existence of issues with Alpha and Beta builds is precisely why I now wait for stable versions of software. I have used beta versions and release candidates of NVDA in the past, but I don't want to do that anymore because of the issues.

Brian Sackrider
When I was at the rehab center back in the 80's I wanted to learn the optacon but they would not teach me along with other things that they refused to teach me. Theese centers are a very big joke they refuse to teach things that their clients really want to learn. I though that I was making progress I was learning to recignising some print letters but because I was not learning fast enough my lessons were stoped. What rite do they have to tell us what we can learn or what we can't learn. They should be closed down they are usless and don't teach hardly anything. I thought that the optacon was a great device that I wanted to learn to use but no go. They seem to be very against learning new technologies that would give us greater independence. It's low tech or no tech.

Perhaps a month or more ago, I saw complaints from a very few people
but as I recall, they weren’t confirmed by others. If there is a
problem, it appears to affect very few people. If people are worried, they
can download the new version of NVDA and try it as a portable before deciding
whether to update the installed version, something that might be a good idea if
people really want to be careful.
You can set the installed version not to automatically update. You
can do so with the portable version as well but for what I’m discussing, there’s
no point.

curious what is supposed to be wrong with NVDA and Firefox in the latest versions? using the voicemeeter control pannel with nvda
Hello. I’m trying to use voice meter banana audio with NVDA except I cannot select my output device per the instructions here. I used screen review but could not rout the mouse to it to click for a drop down. Is there another way to do this? Object review will not work here as it is one huge object according to what I’m seeing here. I want to try and get this working by Saturday if possible.
Thanks. |

Not that I use NVDA constantly, but when I have used 2021.2 with the latest version of Firefox it was not in any way ill-behaved.
