Problem changing synths

Roger Stewart

I'm noticing lately that if I change synths in the default (normal) configuration profile, save the configuration that this isn't carried over into Thunderbird where I have a separate configuration profile to stop some unwanted chatter. This usually seemed to just copy over globally if I made sure the normal configuration was running when I did this. Has there been some change? Is there and easy way I can change synths and have the change work globally if I choose?  There may be times when I do want a different synth for a particular program, and that's fine to be able to do this, but would be very convenient if I could choose to make the change global when I want this.

Thanks.

Roger

Re: problems wiht the nvda eloquence and sapi eloquence add on/apps

I agree with Gene that "something is off here" and that something is not likely to be NVDA itself (though it can't be ruled out entirely).

When anomalies like this occur it can't hurt to try:
1. Using SFC (System File Checker) and DISM (Deployment Imaging Servicing and Management) to Repair Windows 8 & 10
and, if the above doesn't work, followed by:
2. Doing a Windows 10 Repair Install or Feature Update Using the Windows 10 ISO file

Also uninstalling the offending software before doing either of the above and reinstalling it to see if that fixes anything is worth trying.

The behaviors described are anomalies.  They're not characteristic of normal and correct operation.

yeah and there is no need to crack stuff these days since jaws is now subscription based, and affordable, you can choose between buying eloquence or just downloading  IBM-tts from ftp, windows is free with mostly every pc, and even microsoft office can be subscribed to, or just use office365 or google docs. and there is not even an excuse for well I can't customise buttons and stuff anymore, because thanks to me, we now have object enhancer addon which adds many jawsLike customizations to NVDA.

Re: problems wiht the nvda eloquence and sapi eloquence add on/apps

I don’t see anything related to inflection in the SAPI program.  However, if you open the settings for Eloquence, not in NVDA, but in the program, you can tab around and see check boxes for volume and a few other settings.  You can check the checkboxs for the item you want and you can then tab to a field where you change the setting.  The check boxes say something like voice force change.

But based  on your description, I wonder if there is a problem with how the SAPI 5 program is running on your machine.  When I tried the demo, there was inflection similar to that of JAWS.  The volume, as I recall, was fine.  I don’t recall if there was a volume setting in NVDA itself when using the program.

If I understand what you are reporting, you hear no inflection.  this is definitely not expected behavior.  I’ve tried the SAPI program on more than one computer and had inflection similar to JAWS.

Hello. I’m trying the eloquence add on and have also tried the sapi add on. I find that:

  1. The rate boost is gone.
  2. The inflection slider is missing
  3. The volume of the voice is way too low even at 100 percent.

I guess I’m too used to the IBM tts voice I’ve been using now since about 2017. I’m also used to the old eloquence from about 2003. Lol. Is there any way to get these sliders back with nvda? –

Re: DECtalk Add-on for NVDA

Josh Kennedy

there is a dectalk bundle python3 addon which is software decTalk containing decTalk 4.41 4.5 and 4.6, but it only works with nvda2020.4 and earlier because it has not yet been updated for nvda 2021.1 and later. And all decTalk companies such as digital equipment corporation, fonixTalk, and speech-fx-inc, are dead. Although Roger Dudley CEO or former CEO of speech-fx-inc, is supposedly on linkedin he does not respond so maybe its just an abandoned account. and all company phone numbers I found don't work, emails are undeliverable and the speech-fx-inc website is dead. I am hesitant to post the link to this decTalk bundle because I don't know how the moderators would feel about that. I even got a linkedin premium trial account, to try to private message Roger Dudley with no success. Others have also tried with no success. It looks like all decTalk software is now abandoned. A google search will turn up nvda decTalk software addons though.

Re: getting a "please register this product" with the 7 day trial of the sapi eloquence demo

codeFactory never implemented inflection slider on their eloquence product. I think you are confusing codeFactory eloquence with IBM-viavoice-tts, which is an abandoned unsupported completely separate product, even though it sounds almost exactly like eloquence, and which, in fact, does have an inflection slider along with other sliders to change many more voice parameters.

Hi Group,

Some Dutch company was supposed to have taken over Winamp way back in 2014.  Since then there has been a hack of Winamp--about 4 years ago I believe, but nothing since.  Back in the day, ham radio operators with respect to a new piece of equipment tentatively announced by a company that never appeared referred to such equipment as 'vapor equipment.'  So I guess the new Winamp should be called 'vapor software.'

Oh yes they were. That’s why  Iam glad my dectalk express bit the dust. It was driven by a serial port. These newer computers do not have support for those kinds of things. That’s why I’m truly glad my dectalk express died. For that reason I do not want to go back to it as much as I liked it.

How would you want past entries to be searched?  I’ve never looked into journal software.  If I am keeping a list of entries on a subject and adding more over time, I place a phrase such as next entry on a line by itself before every new one.  I then use Notepad’s find command to move from entry to entry and, by reading a bit of each entry, perhaps the first line or less, I can very quickly determine if I want to read the past entry.  You also might want to keep a key word describing each or certain entries for fast reference, such as Next entry music or concerts or something that will tell you what the entry is about.

I use notepad just because it’s a very light weight program and I don’t benefit from a word processor in such a context.  I’m also more used to opening Notepad than another word processor but what you use is, of course your decision and if you want a light weight word processor, Word;pad is already on the machine, and there are other possibilities such as JARTE.

If you are worried about division by year, just write the name of the year on its own line when it changes such as 2022

I’d be interested in what journal writing programs offer.  But what I’m describing meets my needs when I’m doing something that is or is like a journal or a series I’m saving on a topic I’m interested in such as a number of articles on the same subject.

Hello, everyone.

I have really been wanting to start keeping a journal.

I don't particularly want to do something like this in Word,
LibreOffice, or any other word processor. I would ultimately love to
find something which would allow me to quickly access past entries if I
would ever want to look back at them. I have been on the hunt for a
dedicated journal writing application, but am not finding one that is
fully accessible. I used RedNotebook when I used screen magnification
much more regularly, but now that I rely on NVDA much more than
anything, I want to be able to write a journal with as little use of
vision as possible.

Are there any fully (or mostly) accessible apps out there for keeping a
journal?

If not...I have recently been thinking of trying to develop my
programming skills (which are minimal at best at present) and try to
figure out what it would take to develop one myself.

I appreciate any input!

Thanks, everyone!

Re: Are there up to date add-ons for Winamp?

Unless something has changed, Winamp isn't out of support.  It was updated to version 5.8 back in 2019 and I believe there are still plans for it.

Odd that the add-on works for some and not for others.  It very definitely doesn't work for me.  I was warned that it would be disabled when I updated and that it was.

Good day Abdul

I thank you.

I once installed it, but did realise that it does announce the command
to copy, cut and paste.

However, it does not announce the append command.

Is there a way in which the append command is set up so that NVDA can
echo it like JAWS does?

I need these commands to be announced.

If you want to learn about how to use this add on I would recommend 3 easy steps.

  1. Hit NVDA plus J – you will hear a tone entering you into the  Global Commands layer mode – now press  H and this will put you into menu of all available commands from which you can execute and learn the  keyboard shortcut for each command. So for example you will be able to change global speaker volume but also learn NVDA J then control up and down arrow will do the same thing.
  2. NVDA J then G will open the user guide.
  3. Finally going to  NVDA Preferences menu will allow you to open the settings for the add on. You will need to go here if you want to for example, check the loop single letter elements  shortcut on browser web pages which will introduce to NVDA the Jaws like ability to wrap around from the bottom of the web page  back to the top again. The add on will announce what is happening so there is no confusion as to where you are on the page.

Re: NVDA Global Commands Extension

Hi, the latest version of this addon can be downloaded from the following link

NVDA Globle commands extension

If you want to learn about how to use this add on I would recommend 3 easy steps.
