I had always understood that the engine in nvda is updated regularly to take account of fixes, but recently there seem to have been a number of nasty bugs and silly mispronunciations added during code

Is there a reason why you want to use Windows Media player? I use CD-EX for this task. its made for it in fact.
Its also free!
No messing about, just get your wav or mp 3 files and it even seems to be

The lis is endless, I don't think its wise to be hasty now and to do more investigation.
One thing to do would be to install the add on that lets you look at resources. Its better than the built in

Its really s l o w though, don't you find. It is not intuitive either, at least I don't think it is, and more to the point although its okish on Windows stuff from microsoft it has many many issues

there is none up there for windows media player. I did post a autio one for ripping cds to the list but is not on the website yet. there is a written one but still in draft sitting on the pc.

Viavoice is really old if its the version you are using,
You should just use espeak.
It works.
Now as for the crashes, could be a virus, run your antivirus program.
Could be windows, reformat

Yes, narrator is the future on windows.

narrator is becoming an excellent screen reader.
