I have also seen the Windows Explore has stopped working as well, but from what I can gather both of these things happen in normal use by the sighted and hence my suspicion is that some other software

Hmmm I really wish those things worked together.
The way office is going, its causing loads of issues, the best version seems to be 2007 or 2010 as long as you don't have to uninstall it.

Calc from Open Office also has these problems using JAWS. so you need to save frequently in case it crashes and you lose all the info you have put in.

Try moving to the item you want to work with, then go into forms mode and experiment with the space bar, enter and the mouse commands you are trying. When you go into forms mode use read current line

NVDA does support Office 2016. I'm using Office 2016 for some time now and NVDA worked fine, as far as Microsoft Word goes. I rarely used Excel, that is up until now.

For my use, OpenOffice is even worse than LibreOffice.
It appears that those suites and NVDA have some form of incompatibility because when used together, both become unstable.

But Excel 2010 doesn't have the ability to natively draw histograms and box plots isn't it? These 2 charts are required for my Statistics class. Only Excel 2016 has the capability to draw histograms
