First, I am, by no means, a windows genius. But, for me, NVDA stopped reading the file explorer folders, after I reset my file explorer settings. Have you, by any chance, been changing file

When you open the folder you have to work with, restart NVDA. That fixed this issue on my desktop computer.

They are .INI files, so maybe you need to check the the option to show
system files...

You can install the portable over the NVDA, and the portable rewrite the old NVDa with his configuration.

configuration on exit is checked (which is checked by default)
