Re: a way to lock the nvda key?

Travis Siegel <tsiegel@...>

Locking the NVDA key is most certainly possible, it has nothing to do with whether it's a microsoft program or another one, it's just a matter of keyboard interception, which is something NVDA already does.

As has already been mentioned, Sticky Keys is toggle-able, and almost
everyone I know who uses it does just that. Even though the default
toggle is five sequential presses of the SHIFT key, that can be done
very quickly.

The message when toggling says it affects CTRL, SHIFT, ALT, and
WinKey. I just tested it though, with the NumPad Insert when in NVDA
and it was sticky-ing it, too, as you get a tone when that's active.

For some reason that link didn't "linkify" in your original message, so I'm repeating it here.  The actual download page for the add on is listed here:  http://www.screenreader.ai/

This topic is again giving me the chance to call on the powers that be that control the NVDA Add-Ons pages to create a third one under the hierarchy:  Community Developed but Unvetted.   There are scads of NVDA Add-Ons that get mentioned in passing over time and I have little doubt that a number of the individuals who've developed same would jump at the chance to have their work listed in a central repository just like the Stable Add-Ons and Add-Ons Under Development pages at https://addons.nvda-project.org/index.en.html.   It can be made perfectly clear by the chosen page title or text at the top of said page that use of these add-ons is entirely "at your own risk" and they have not passed any official vetting process.   So many of them are just great, and work just fine.   A mechanism on that page should also exist for reporting back if something has broken, not because those maintaining the page will fix the add-on itself, but it might be noted and/or delisted entirely if that persists.

The Gamages

Hello,

Firstly, thank you all for your comments, it’s all clear to me now.
You are correct Brian, it was a typingerror, or old havit as you say.
I didn’t make it clear that I was not getting messages from either list, but I thought that was obvious as the e mail from Groups IO said that I would not be receiving them, at the time of my original message, I was completely in the dark, my mistake, sorry.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, after all your help, I know what to do next time, but we are all learning and some things are a concern to us less enlightened folk. If I am unsure, I think the best thing is to ask for help, when I sent my original message, it was in the hope that someone would receive it,messages returned after a little while after I responded to Groups IO.
My apologies for the ramble, but I am grateful for all who responded.

Best Regards, Jim.

This is a part of voiceover. I'm looking for somethingn siilar for nvda that can be toggled on and off with let's say nvda semi or something. It would then lock the modifier key and you could just hit n to go to the tools config menu etc. Enter and stuff would still work as normal.

Take care

Re: nvda mouse tracking problem on google chrome browsers on laptops

Mouse tracking is working flawlessly on my HP laptop.  It's reading your name link at the top of the web interface for your topic and all the controls down the left size of the page.   It's also working on Amazon.com.

I would first try restarting NVDA with NVDA Add-ons disabled to see if it might be an add-on issue.  If that doesn't solve it, I'd suggest uninstalling NVDA and reinstalling the latest version.

nvda mouse tracking problem on google chrome browsers on laptops

Vytautas Ziedelis

Hello members I have weird problem I am using nvda mouse tracking feature quite a bit since I have a little bit of vision left to do so.
I have a problem with mouse tracking on my 2 laptops on Google Chrome,  and the problem is that nvda doesn't read anything under the mouse cursor. Strangely enough it works without any problems on my PC. I tested that with 2 different laptops I own and problem persists in both cases. Interesting thing to point out it works perfectly fine  on Firefox.  I know you might say use Firefox then, the point is I have all the major add-ons on Google as well as bookmarks saved and I like Google Chrome browser more than Firefox in general.
So I am wondering can someone confirm the same issue on their laptops using Google Chrome browser with mouse tracking enabled. So basically if you can just open your Google Chrome browser and enable mouse tracking mode by using NVDA pluss Shift pluss M and then try to move the mouse to see whether it reads anything . I would appreciate that so I know  that it is same for everyone else.
I thought of reporting that to github but then again there are so many issues opened and also it is better to confirm that with other NVDA users before submitting one anyway.
Thanks

And the original question is in the subject, which is crystal clear.   Comparison to what one is capable of doing using another product or computing environment is often useful and illustrative, and was in this case.

I am still not certain that the exact functionality can be imitated under Windows with Sticky Keys and the double press of a modifier key to make it lock, but  that would be the only obvious way if it worked.   As you've noted, not everything has an equivalent across environments.

Hi Ron,

What city are we talking about?

I have tried  and the comma is not pronounced when disabled.

You can very well try to paste the text (if you have activated the checkbox: copy to clipboard) and see if there are commas in the values.

In this new API the barometric status does not exist, but we can be be satisfied anyway, what do you say? :)

Anyway tomorrow I have to update that fixes to minor bugs, so if I have time to try your city it would be better.

Thank you

Re: help

Gene

You hadn't indicated, as I recall, that you had been having delivery problems from groups io lists.  That is very important.  When reporting a problem, don't leave out information unless it is clear beyond a doubt that it is irrelevant.  Groups.io sends unbounce messages to anyone who is bouncing.  If your account is bouncing, you won't receive some or all messages from the list serve from which it is bouncing.  Your e-mail is back so you are again receiving list mail.  The link was legitimate.

The reason you don't see a Groups.io part of the address must be because it isn't used in the unbounce links.  While you would expect to see a groups.io address, now you know what the Internet site is that is used in such links from Groups.io.  it's evidently the domain of the actual overall web site, like Go Daddy.

Also, you can check to see where a link came from.  Be careful, because spammers are making some links look a lot more like authentic links when you check the actual address.

If you are reading mail as HTML and see a link with words in an e-mail such as click here or unbounce, as examples, be on the link, open the context menu, and look for something like copy link or copy link location, the wording will vary according to the program.  Press enter on it.  the link will be copied to the clipboard.
Open Notepad, paste in the link, and look at the actual address.

Re: help

Unbounce messages will be automatically generated if your e-mail service provider is detected as having bounced what would have been your incoming messages from groups.io.   The links to unbounce are perfectly safe, and if you don't activate them your e-mail from groups.io will not be making it to you until or unless you do.

A bounce is pretty much a "return to sender" event that Groups.io can detect.

Hello Gene and others who answered, thank you all for your comments,.
I did as Gene suggested and tried to copy the link, copy was unavailable, so I did copy shortcut, this is below, it misses out the https// groups io bit but here is the link below for any further comments and maybe help for others

My e mails are back, so it seems to have worked, but the fact that I couldn’t copy the actual link is a bit of a concern.
the link put me on what seemed to be the groups i o site, I will try it another way. .

Best Regards, Jim.

Jim, if the message came from groups.io, you're okay. It sounds as if that the message was from groups.io so you have nothing to worry about.

Hello,
I have received a message purporting to come from Groups IO, it says that my messages are bouncing and I will not receive messages from freelists that I am subscribed to.
I stupidly clicked on a link in the message and, after reading what was in my browser, it said that I had been unbounced.
There’s no fool like an old fool they say, so, if anyone is reading this who can get in touch with Groups IO, I would be grateful for any help, I just hope that my e mail address has not been hacked.
Best Regards, Jim.

Hi,

I got the exact same thing this morning. I did check the email to see if it listed the lists that I’m apart of and it did.
