Re: Is this the end of PayPal for nvda?
I had no issues. I got the audio captcha, and it was a bunch of words from a movie, or talkshow. I was able to fill it out fine just today. -- Sarah Alawami, owner of TFFP. . This really should be on the chat list since NVDA has nothing to do with the problem. However, I have an account I haven't used in years; I wasn't asked to fill out a captcha when I logged in. I tried twice and wasn't asked either time. What country are you in?

The dang thinghy put in a CAPTCHA. There was an audio but I tried doing that several times with no results. I finally had to ask my sighted friend to enter it for me. What was going on is there was a mixture of numbers and letters--this is all fine but some of the letters are upper case and some are lower case and there is no way to tell them apart in the audio challenge. This isn't accessible at all. If this continues, I'll have no choice except to cancel my PayPal account. I hope nvda has another way for us to donate. :( Roger

Re: loss of nvda keys
Roger Stewart
I get this sometimes, but not very often. They fix is to shut down nvda and then do a restart. That fixes it every time. What causes this is anyone's guess.

Please do NOT post full logs or log segments to the NVDA Group
#adminnotice
Hello All,
Even though the subject says, "Please," this is really not a request, but a command. In an Admin Notice from earlier this year (List Updates, Please Read), Nimer Jaber, NVDA Group Owner, stated explicitly:
I'm now going beyond that, and saying, "Don't, really don't, ever post full logs or log segments to this group." It's fine to ask for help and indicate that you have a log or log segment available for review to anyone who requests it. And our regulars who are capable of dissecting logs now routinely ask that those be delivered to them privately via e-mail (typically), or some other method out of the public view. Just don't post 'em here! -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 2004, Build 19041 If you think that you can think about a thing, inextricably attached to something else, without thinking of the thing it is attached to, then you have a legal mind. ~ Thomas Reed Powell

Go to the list box, and select "home". There you will find settings for your home page.

Or just go to the search edit field and type in "homepage" and it should come up.

Once yu are in options, turn off browse mode NVDA key space. If you don't, you can't see the list of categories.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Shift tab three times to the list. You can down arrow through the categories. Move to the one you want, then tab around to see what settings you can change. In this case, you want home. You may stay in forms mode or return to browse mode when you tab. If you have questions about how to work with the interface for choices about home content, let us know. Gene

Sorry for all the questions today. How do you get to the preferences in the latest version of firefox? It says to go to the tthree dots in the right hand corner but of course I can't get there.

Probably because nvda is going into focus mode on that site for some reason Have to manually switch back to browse mode to navigate the site
I dont know why this is but firefox works fine with it Chrome just sucks I guess

When you are on the page. start tabbing. You will get to an application. tab once or twice to get to links beyond the application. The application automaticaly places you in forms mode. Return to browse mode, NVDA key space. You can then move normally.

Using Google Voice Webpage with NVDA
First, if you are not already a Google Voice user and have a Google Voice phone number, feel free to mute this topic almost immediately. What I am about to ask is not about how to use Google Voice, per se, because I do so all the time, but about getting NVDA to "play nice," if possible, with the page for one's Google Voice calling/texting/voicemail as well as the two tabs for archiving and reporting spam.
If I go through the page with NVDA active, via point and click, when I land on the control for "Call" it says, "Call tab selected," Note, this is not a browser tab, nor is it presented in the way that tabs are conventionally presented. I have yet to find a way to do a quick navigation to any of them, though brute force tabbing (or shift+tabbing) always ends up with these controls as part of the traversal. I also have not figured out, exactly, when it is that NVDA is going to handle the C keyboard shortcut for looking for a combo box versus passing it to Google Voice as a shortcut for "make a call," which it is when Google Voice has control. Depending on where I have focus on the screen, it sometimes acts as a quick navigation shortcut and others as a Google Voice keyboard shortcut. And none of these times is when I'm in an edit box, which behaves as I'd expect. If anyone has experience using Google Voice via the webpage with NVDA who can shed some light about accessing it with NVDA, would you please share? -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 2004, Build 19041 If you think that you can think about a thing, inextricably attached to something else, without thinking of the thing it is attached to, then you have a legal mind. ~ Thomas Reed Powell

NVDA doesn't have a graphics labeler. It also doesn't have a function like frames in JAWS. While these lacks don't affect a lot of users, they are real disadvantages for many would-be or current users.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
I don't know why it doesn't have these functions, if there are technical reasons or others. Gene

Re: status of check box and radio boxes
Jonathan COHN
Very hard to tell. If the checkboxes are native ones:
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
<input role="checkbox" name="myCheckbox"> And NVDA does not announce them then you have found a problem. Sometimes however the web developer has decided they don't like the styles provided by browsers for checkboxes, or they want some additional control in these cases you are likely to see something like: <div role="checkbox" aria-checked="true" cclass="ckbx uncheck"></div> Notice how this element has a role this is telling the screen reader hey you know that nondescriptive element div in this case treat it like a checkbox and then the aria-checked attribute in there lets the scree reader know if the checkbox is checked. However, Generally web developers use the "class" attribute to change appearance of elements, and if their Java script updates the class, but does not update the aria-checked you will get as you described, and there is nothing a screen reader can do about this since there are no standards on class and the picture that is changed when the class changes has no attributes and therefore no way to describe it. Again, one can look at the attributes for this element in either the browsers developer tools, or using the NVDA F1 key sequence and looking at the last couple of lines shown. There should be an attributes line that lists the attributes the browser is providing to the screen reader like tag Name, role etc. .
