using nvda to cancel Kindle magazine subscriptions
Mary Otten
I wonder if anybody can give me some advice as to the exact steps to follow in order to use the Amazon website to cancel Kindle magazine subscriptions.I can get to the "manage content and devices" section as instructed. I even managed to get the site to show my magazine subscriptions, something I was not successful at doing using my iPhone.
Once you have the subscriptions showing, there is an "actions" button to the left of each subscription. You are suppose to click on that to reveal choices, such as changing payment method or canceling the subscription. I can find the cancel subscription, but it does not activate when you press enter on it. I can also find it with object navigation, then press the numpad key for left click, also to no avail. What am I missing here? Mary

Re: NVDA for Android and IOS
As many other people have already mentioned, it seems there's not
any plan, for now ou the future, to make NVDA a screen reader to a
smartphone.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
It actually would be quite nice, though, and I'd be the first to grab it if it ever existed. Considering how powerful NVDA can be on the Windows platform, if such power could be applied on a smartphone, it would be wonderful! But unfortunately, I don't see it happening :( Em 10/03/2019 12:16, Sociohack AC

I'm not fond of mobile-optimized websites.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
The reason is most of the time I'm using my laptop and almost never use my smartphone or any other mobile device to really browse through something. And, while using a mobile-optimized website on a mobile can be excellent, on the other hand it can be a real hell to use the same website on the computer, because of how things are organized on the screen on a mobile-optimized website. Re: reviewing a web page
Hi,
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Same case of the guy asking about breadcrumb yesterday, if it wasn't you, I actually don't remember :) "inserted" is an HTML tag which indicates that something was deleted and some other thing is on the place of the old one now. Suppose you have an original price for something but this thing is with an off for a limited time. You may well want use the "inserted" HTML tag to delete the price and replace it with the new one. Actually, most of the time it's a combo of two tags, one to delete the old and the other to insert the new content. I forgot what the other tag is so you may google it if you want more info. And, while it may be useless for some people, no, as far as I know, there's no way of turning such announcement off using NVDA. Hth Em 10/03/2019 15:18, Don H escreveu:

Re: A web site with a double life

Are you saying you want an address to subscribe to
a podcast? I see, using an older version of Chrome, specific episodes
linked to, such as a link to Episode 72 of a podcast after a dewscription of
it. Where are links to subscribe found when you look using another
platform? At this point we have far too little information to say that it
is at all likely the site is tailoring content. It may just be that this
or that browser is showing code on the page that other browsers don't.
Here is the direct link to episode 72 of a
podcast. I used to copy shortcut feature in Chrome, the same as copy link
location in Firefox. Is the link to the general podcast series based on
this link?

determining what site you "get" to view. Some redirect according to IP address. I think Amazon used to do this, though it doesn't seem to anymore for amazon.com and amazon.ca.

Re: NVDA for Android and IOS
Ralf Kefferpuetz
Hello, As many other people already stated, no, it is not possible right now and I personally don’t see a need for it. We have talkback and voiceover which are pretty good screen readers on their platforms. NVDA is my choice of screen reader for the Windows platform and I would prefer that the NVDA community spend their power to make it better on that platform instead of trying to transform it for other platforms.
Cheers, Ralf

And he has kindly put the website's link in his message. There shouldn't be any excuse as the info is just a click away.
And what, prey tell, would clicking that link bring me to? An unknown link for a program I have never heard of, that nobody else is saying anything about?
Sorry, but at least a general description, even if copy pasted
from the website, would be very helpful in an instance like this.
I don't just click links willy nilly, regardless where they may
originate.

Re: NVDA for Android and IOS
Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>
We have many times been down this route. The short answer is no, since the dependencies used by NVDA are PC specific and indeed windows specific. If you really wanted to do it it would in effect be a completely new screenreader that emulated the windows system but then of course mobile operating systems are nothing like windows and the concepts are totally different anyway. I think this in itself is why we have not seen massive adoption of touch screen windows systems except in niche environments.

The effort involved in "converting" NVDA to run on anything other than Windows
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
would in my opinion be greater than starting from scratch (but with a good understanding of what a screenreader should provide for the user) and writing new code. Android (alongside which you might as well include Linux systems in general) and iOS work so completely differently from Windows that very little of the code which has been created for NVDA would be useful or transferrable. I've no idea how "easily" the Linux Orca screenreader system might be transferrable to Android, but that's about the only possibility I can think of for re-using code from an existing project to work on a different operating system.
