Adding Time-Stop Marks to Audio Tracks

ely.r@...

Karen,

I first thought about audio book readers to purchase, but realized you would likely wish to do this without additional cost.

At Microsoft Community, I

found a way to use Windows Media Player to read audio books, and with a free plugin WMP will create a single bookmark wherever you stop reading. I will tri this tomorrow if you want to wait, but let’s see what the list may think.

I have copied the text of the solution below, but at the very bottom I have included the URL as well.

Rick

There is an automatic plugin you can download and install that will allow you to resume where you last left, however, I do not believe it allows you to set multiple book marks. You can search online for a 3rd-party plugin, but this may do it for you:

1. Go to: http://www.catenalogic.com/downloads/mymediabookmarks/mymediabookmarks_exe_1.2.exe

2. Download the plugin and install

3. Open Windows Media Player

4. The initial setup will launch, it will want to update. Go through all the prompts and once it asks if you would like to close Windows Media Player now, go ahead and hit the 'X' in Windows Media Player (NOT the 'X' in the small update popup window that's telling you to close Windows Media Player)

5. From here, once the update is complete, restart Windows Media Player and either play audio or watch a video. The process is automatic, though you can go into the plugin options and uncheck the automatic bookmark settings. Basically, if you're listening to or watching something and you just close out of Windows Media Player, or select a different file, the next time you go back into the audio or video file, it will resume from its last spot.

Hope this helps,

Karen,

What app are you using to read the audio book. Most that I have used have their own bookmarking feature.

Dan,

Are you, by chance, using webmail?   Mailto: links won't necessarily work smoothly with some webmail.  If you bring up the context menu and copy that link, it is a mailto: link.

It will have the word mailto: immediately followed by the sender's e-mail address, followed by a question mark, followed by what will be put in the message subject automatically.  You can snag the actual e-mail address that way if you're using webmail that does not respond to a mailto: link.

I haven't encountered an actual e-mail client like Thunderbird, WLM, Outlook, etc., in a very long time that doesn't respond to a mailto: link by opening a compose window with the To: address and Subject: prepopulated based on what the link has in it.

If you go to that same context list you can press enter on the compose email to choice and it will open a new email with the sender in the to: field and the subject filled in.

In Windows Live Mail, if you are in a message and you shift tab through the headers, you get to a button that says Contact's name and the name is shown there.  If you right click or use the context menu key, you find options, one of which is to send message.  If you press enter, a message opens with the sender's address in it when working with this list.  So Windows Live Mail gets the information even if the address isn't in the from line.  As I said, how you do this varies from program to program but one thing I've always found to work is the message properties and that's why I discussed it, in case it is needed.

I just tried this and it does  show a reply to sender choice.  However, when on the email in the list and I do this it opens a new email but the to: field is populated with the list email address not the original sender.  Maybe a bug here or something.

Don't be in the message.  Be on the message in the list.

Whatever the case, if you get into message properties and look at the technical information, the senders address is included in any e-mail program I've looked at this in.  That's on this list as well.  I don't know if this is universal, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is very wide spread.

Judy,

I don't think there's a way to do this under Groups.io because the actual sender's address is not a part of the From: field.

If it were, you could use the standard Reply keyboard shortcut, but doing that for a list message replies to the group, not the originating sender.  I believe the only way to reply directly to sender, without also including the list, with ease in most e-mail clients is hitting that Reply to Sender link at the end of messages or digest entries.  That's why that particular link came into existence in the very early days of Groups.io.

I've never dealt with an e-mailing list where direct replies to originating senders of single messages didn't involve a workaround of some kind as the From: and Reply-To are usually set to the mailing list address.

Re: new dropbox rules

hurrikennyandopo ...

Hi

as long as they do not do it on links that people access i would have to tear down every link on the website that went to web pages.

I will go up later on and see if i have any other devices connected that is what it sounds like but it did mention some thing about exceeding my device link limit. I am sure i only have the one device here connected to the drop box account but hundreds of links on the site to my drop box account.

Hi all.

This is a small warning to everyone that uses dropbox.

From march this year, all basic accounts are limited to 3 devices.

What does that mean?

Nothing, except that dropbox remembers every device and session ever made.

So you reformat your computer or change your account name, or get another computer and don't unlink first, your device becomes a ghost device same with app programs, and brouser sessions.

1.  sign into dropbox.

The easiest way to do this is to login with your own client, click the tray icon and launch dropbox.

Now near the top of the page is a menu called my account hit space on that, scroll down to settings, hit shift space to exit forms mode then hit enter.

Don't move about else things will just not work right.

Now dropbox settings load.

hit control home for the top of the page then h.

2.  select security tab, in the same way, enter forms mode once you scroll down to the list of tabs, and locate security.

get out of forms mode and hit enter.

Next control home again.

then hit t.

3.  The next thing to do is locate every session in the first table which has an end session button it and hit the space bar till they are all gone.

Next  locate the device tree which is directly below the brouser treeview.

The first device in the list is your device.

scroll to the end of that list.

Every device you have ever linked including every ghost device linked in the past will exist, I had 6, my dad had 2.

Hit unlink button on all the devices bar the one that says its been modified in the last hour.

Every other device will have a time when it was last valid.

Finally go through the steps of going to my account, then settingss however next select the connected apps view.

Then disconnect every app you don't use and service.

If you need to link devices take note of the devices you want to connect.

A basic user can connect up to 3 devices.

Those can be a computer, a phone and one other device or 3 computers.

You can buy, but to be honest, if you get this warning and are only using 1 device, then you probably have a lot of ghost devices.

I'd also update your password at this time if you have forgotten it if you havn't allready.

I'd also check to see if you know what all the devices you have are, if you find something you don't know, then chances are someone has hacked your account or you linked to a device somewhere else.

In a way this while annoying is good in a way.

I had no idea dropbox kept all devices from all reformats and all times I had changed dropbox.

I had 6 devices, 1 is my device I had.

The next one before that was my old win7 device which I may relink later.

The rest were my win7 and xp devices and their reformats including profile changes etc.

My apps were not needed ones and I clobbered them.

As for my brouser sessions including the current one there were 19 others which were still signed in from devices that were no longer active.

In the case of my dad's system, there were 2 devices, the current one, and an older instance of the same device which existed before it, its good to know that I was able to kill things.

Now I know about this, if I need to reformat my first thing after I get back in is to kill the ghost devices that linger inactive after the fact.

This actually is a good reason to check security on my account if anything else.

Its worth noting that if you need more space and upgrade you won't have to bother with this though even if you do knowing what I had, its worth looking at the site anyway.

I didn't need all those 20 sessions logged in at once, nore did I need the 6 devices 4 of which were ghosts of old linked devices and one which is not on the network.

I guess knowing that I could link that one but even so I will be carefull to check every linked system I service to make sure its all clear of stuff that shouldn't be on it.

Using thunderbird, all you have to do is hit the context key and arrow down to copy email address and it goes right to the clipboard.

Hi, Gene,
It works the same way in thunderbird too. I was just able to tab to the link with your email address.

Not a bug, its because of what Brian said, that the sender's address isn't in the to field.  But I didn't know what would happen when this was tried because the program might get the information from something else in the message.

Gene,

I just tried this and it does  show a reply to sender choice. However, when on the email in the list and I do this it opens a new email but the to: field is populated with the list email address not the original sender.  Maybe a bug here or something.

Thunderbird appears not to have a message properties function.  But you can see the message details by opening message source in the view menu.  If you look down the details, you will find the from information.
But if you can do it the following way instead, it is much faster and easier.
Don't be in the message.  Be on the message in the list.
Open the context menu.  You will find all sorts of items regarding working with the message and other items.  You can see if reply to sender works.with mail from various lists.  I don't have Thunderbird associated with any account I use for list mail.

Wow that's true! I just checked it and haven't found any single link to a Firefox extension download.
However, people seem to have downloaded it successfully.
So folks, come here, tell us what's the secret about it.

I only see the chrome one there isn't any way to add this to my firefox/waterfox program unless you make an addon file for it and the firefox extention page is not on main page of the site and that page only downloads the chrome extention.

I do wander what is needed to make it official extention or something.

Websites are primarily designed to be interacted with visually which is hard to do if you have a visual impairment. Here I think there's big potential for AI to help and look at the web page visually and then give correct and helpful information to the visually impaired or blind user.
