Thank you so much for this. Messages like this one make this list of
most importance to me personally. Following your instructions, I was
able to unlink many Apps.

So you reformat your computer or change your account name, or get
another computer and don't unlink first, your device becomes a ghost
device same with app programs, and brouser sessions.

1.  sign into dropbox.

The easiest way to do this is to login with your own client, click the
tray icon and launch dropbox.

Now near the top of the page is a menu called my account hit space on
that, scroll down to settings, hit shift space to exit forms mode then
hit enter.

Don't move about else things will just not work right.

Now dropbox settings load.

hit control home for the top of the page then h.

2.  select security tab, in the same way, enter forms mode once you
scroll down to the list of tabs, and locate security.

get out of forms mode and hit enter.

Next control home again.

then hit t.

3.  The next thing to do is locate every session in the first table
which has an end session button it and hit the space bar till they are
all gone.

Next  locate the device tree which is directly below the brouser
treeview.

The first device in the list is your device.

scroll to the end of that list.

Every device you have ever linked including every ghost device linked
in the past will exist, I had 6, my dad had 2.

Hit unlink button on all the devices bar the one that says its been
modified in the last hour.

Every other device will have a time when it was last valid.

Finally go through the steps of going to my account, then settingss
however next select the connected apps view.

Then disconnect every app you don't use and service.

If you need to link devices take note of the devices you want to connect.

A basic user can connect up to 3 devices.

Those can be a computer, a phone and one other device or 3 computers.

You can buy, but to be honest, if you get this warning and are only
using 1 device, then you probably have a lot of ghost devices.

I'd also update your password at this time if you have forgotten it if
you havn't allready.

I'd also check to see if you know what all the devices you have are,
if you find something you don't know, then chances are someone has
hacked your account or you linked to a device somewhere else.

In a way this while annoying is good in a way.

I had no idea dropbox kept all devices from all reformats and all
times I had changed dropbox.

I had 6 devices, 1 is my device I had.

The next one before that was my old win7 device which I may relink later.

The rest were my win7 and xp devices and their reformats including
profile changes etc.

My apps were not needed ones and I clobbered them.

As for my brouser sessions including the current one there were 19
others which were still signed in from devices that were no longer
active.

In the case of my dad's system, there were 2 devices, the current one,
and an older instance of the same device which existed before it, its
good to know that I was able to kill things.

Now I know about this, if I need to reformat my first thing after I
get back in is to kill the ghost devices that linger inactive after
the fact.

This actually is a good reason to check security on my account if
anything else.

Its worth noting that if you need more space and upgrade you won't
have to bother with this though even if you do knowing what I had, its
worth looking at the site anyway.

I didn't need all those 20 sessions logged in at once, nore did I need
the 6 devices 4 of which were ghosts of old linked devices and one
which is not on the network.

I guess knowing that I could link that one but even so I will be
carefull to check every linked system I service to make sure its all
clear of stuff that shouldn't be on it.

Re: unwanted speach during website text entry

Giles,

Just FYI, with regard to the second example, the card number is probably broken in to 4 edit boxes.  The first 4 digits of any credit card number immediately identify the actual credit card type.  I'm guessing that something similar to what you get when you're typing a password is occurring because of how the page is coded, and it's retriggering that "Visa card detected" message with each and every character press after the card type has been determined by the first four digits.

This sounds almost like, "accessibility gone wrong," as it would be nice to have that card type detection announced once, but not for every character press for characters number 5 through 16 of a card number.

It can get even messier if a number is broken into 4 segments but where the "auto jump" from segment to segment is not enabled, so if you paste a full 16 digits you only get the first four.  I hate when that's done because, like a phone number, I generally just keep entering digits or paste the full number.

If you want to verify what you are typing, you may have to use Notepad or use the add-on that allows you to review what you have typed in a protected field.  But to eliminate the speech, turn off speech with NVDA key s.  To turn it on again, issue the command twice.  These fields are refreshing when you type and NVDA is reading the text as it sees it every time the field refreshes it.

Subject: [nvda] unwanted speach during website text entry

Hi all,

I have two related cases of NVDA speaking information while I am typing that is not *what* I'm typing. I'm wondering if there is any way to disable this. I'll detail the two different cases separately below.

Most often it's when I'm typing into a website text box that has a maximum character limit. I am not sure if sending a message to an eBay seller has a character limit but as I was sending a message last night I kept hearing how many characters I'd typed every time I pressed a letter. I gave up typing directly into the text box at that point and wrote the message in Notepad and then copied and pasted it into the eBay message box.

The second example was on the Graze snacks website, http://graze.com/ ... I was entering my credit card number and every keybpress after the first four numbers NVDA told me "visa card detected". Once again I used notepad to write out my card number and pasted that into the card number field.

These are not the only times I've experienced this but both of these happened in the last week. I can't remember exactly which other websites have text entry fields with similar behaviour. I can listen to my typing while somebody is talking to me (I used to work on a call centre and could listen to JAWS and the caller speaking at the same time through the same set of headphones) but hearing the NVDA voice saying what I am not typing I find very difficult, if not impossible, to manage.

Any thoughts or suggestions or examples of other websites that do this? :)

Re: Observation of Reply Behaviour of Some List Members

Lets face it, most of the repetitions are the direct result of the individual posting the repeat not having read through the topic in its entirety before replying.  This can be easily inferred by the fact that very frequently the quoted material, even hours and days later, is the initial message.

No one is complaining about several people jumping on a given message at approximately the same time and there being overlapping responses.  It happens all the time when folks are responding to the same request, usually very promptly, and having started within minutes of each other.

But when you're seeing messages coming in hours to days later, and it does happen, particularly hours later, when there have often been one or more responses of exactly the same nature well ahead of the late replies, the reasonable conclusion is that the person doing the responding has not read through the entire topic.   It is a perfectly reasonable request to ask the membership to review the entirety of a topic that's already available to them in their inboxes before replying.   It can and does cut down on unnecessary (and that's the key  adjective here) repetition.

Topics in general are going to recur over time, as is completely natural.   That's not the kind of repetition that is being referred to by the original poster or by me or by the group guidelines.   All anyone is asking is that you have a cruise through all the messages you already have for a given topic before posting your own reply.   Using conversation or threaded view in e-mail clients makes this particular request a cinch to accomplish.  Even if you don't wish to use that view, searching on the subject to create a "temporary topic view" allows you to do the same thing.

Provided you're logged in using the same Google Account, synchronization occurs automatically between all devices accessing that same Calendar.  You can also share the calendar on one account with another account or accounts as well, granting specific permissions as part of sharing (I manage four on a single Google Calendar interface).

Hi Brian,

regarding the cost of upgrading, I upgraded to a Plus account becuase I use DropBox a lot and was getting close to filling my basic subscription with a small increase in space from recommending DropBox to my mother. I get 1Tb of space and it costs ‘£79 per year ‘You’ll be charged £79.00 including applicable tax, (minus any applicable credits or promos) yearly until you cancel your subscription.’

Hi all.

This is a small warning to everyone that uses dropbox.

From march this year, all basic accounts are limited to 3 devices.

What does that mean?

Nothing, except that dropbox remembers every device and session ever made.

So you reformat your computer or change your account name, or get another computer and don't unlink first, your device becomes a ghost device same with app programs, and brouser sessions.

1. sign into dropbox.

The easiest way to do this is to login with your own client, click the tray icon and launch dropbox.

Now near the top of the page is a menu called my account hit space on that, scroll down to settings, hit shift space to exit forms mode then hit enter.

Don't move about else things will just not work right.

Now dropbox settings load.

hit control home for the top of the page then h.

2. select security tab, in the same way, enter forms mode once you scroll down to the list of tabs, and locate security.

get out of forms mode and hit enter.

Next control home again.

then hit t.

3. The next thing to do is locate every session in the first table which has an end session button it and hit the space bar till they are all gone.

Next locate the device tree which is directly below the brouser treeview.

The first device in the list is your device.

scroll to the end of that list.

Every device you have ever linked including every ghost device linked in the past will exist, I had 6, my dad had 2.

Hit unlink button on all the devices bar the one that says its been modified in the last hour.

Every other device will have a time when it was last valid.

Finally go through the steps of going to my account, then settingss however next select the connected apps view.

Then disconnect every app you don't use and service.

If you need to link devices take note of the devices you want to connect.

A basic user can connect up to 3 devices.

Those can be a computer, a phone and one other device or 3 computers.

You can buy, but to be honest, if you get this warning and are only using 1 device, then you probably have a lot of ghost devices.

I'd also update your password at this time if you have forgotten it if you havn't allready.

I'd also check to see if you know what all the devices you have are, if you find something you don't know, then chances are someone has hacked your account or you linked to a device somewhere else.

In a way this while annoying is good in a way.

I had no idea dropbox kept all devices from all reformats and all times I had changed dropbox.

I had 6 devices, 1 is my device I had.

The next one before that was my old win7 device which I may relink later.

The rest were my win7 and xp devices and their reformats including profile changes etc.

My apps were not needed ones and I clobbered them.

As for my brouser sessions including the current one there were 19 others which were still signed in from devices that were no longer active.

In the case of my dad's system, there were 2 devices, the current one, and an older instance of the same device which existed before it, its good to know that I was able to kill things.

Now I know about this, if I need to reformat my first thing after I get back in is to kill the ghost devices that linger inactive after the fact.

This actually is a good reason to check security on my account if anything else.

Its worth noting that if you need more space and upgrade you won't have to bother with this though even if you do knowing what I had, its worth looking at the site anyway.

I didn't need all those 20 sessions logged in at once, nore did I need the 6 devices 4 of which were ghosts of old linked devices and one which is not on the network.

I guess knowing that I could link that one but even so I will be carefull to check every linked system I service to make sure its all clear of stuff that shouldn't be on it.

Re: Using Google Calendar - Web or Computer App?

Cristóbal

The Google calendar webpage for me is completely accessible. I have absolutely no problems using it. For convenience and preference, I just switch to schedule view.

Dear all,

I am presently looking for a calendar app to set reminders about

1 Is Google Calendra even accessible with NVDA?
2 If so, which would you recommend I use - Google Calendra on the web
(if so, on Firefox or on Chrome?) or download the Google Calendra
application on my computer for better usability?
3 If Google Calendar is not particularly screen reader friendly, which
other free and accessible calendar programs would you recommend for
use with NVDA?

Note: I am looking at Google Calendar with particular emphasis because
I imagine that I would be able to sync Google Calendar which I control
on my computer with its corresponding aAndroid app which I have
installed on my Smartphone.

I would truly appreciate any assistance.

Thanks.

Hello to members of the NVDA list, especially website staff. In recent
days, since 2019.1 release, NVDA users in Iran can not open nvaccess.org
website. After few researches, I noticed that the nvaccess site is not
filtered; but, When we enter the site address, no page will be loaded.
Also, we encounter an error when updating NVDA.
Thank you in advance.
