Re: ABREVIATIONS AND WORDS

Monte,

I would suggest using the Default Dictionary for tweaking this.

If you have several specific examples of where each is being pronounced incorrectly it's easier to advise on precisely what you would want to do.  I am a huge fan of regular expression matching in the dictionaries because they allow you to construct generalized patterns that will capture the vast majority of the situations you want them to while intentionally ignoring those that don't fit.

Under JAWS I once had to do the same thing for the word "cup" which, when used in recipes, was almost always being announced as Cuban pesos.

ABREVIATIONS AND WORDS

Monte Single

Hi Folks,

I am using nvda 2019.1 with win 7.

Sometimes nvda interprets things wrongly.

For instance;

---drive instead of doctor,

---suite instead of street,

---in the call number of a book, “aud”  is spoken as “Australian dollars”.

I have done nothing with pronounciation or dictionaries.

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Monte

Re: Google chrome notifications and NVDA

This is a serious question:  What notifications?

I've never had YouTube send me any notification as I never turned any on in YouTube settings, and Facebook (which I almost never touch, except for the account I have for my business) has never sent me one, either, at least not via my web browser.  If you're getting push notifications in the browser that's almost certainly something you've turned on (or someone else has) on the respective sites.

Also, as an aside, I stay logged out on YouTube even if logged in on other Google services.

NVDA is only reading what's being generated as far as notifications go, and you should have the option to turn those off.

Not a helpful response, I know, but I hate LinkedIn so much; doesn’t matter what screenreader is used, it’s just a pain; I know a lot of sighted people feel this way, too.

You have asked about two sites that both require login before one can get to the spots you're asking about.  Although I'd presume someone here has worked with LinkedIn, the same is not necessarily true of sprintip.com.

You can make no presumptions about what NVDA can or can't do that JAWS might or might not be able to do based upon a lack of response.  All you know is that no one here can answer your question, at least at this point in time.

Google chrome notifications and NVDA

How do I delete notifications from YouTube, facebook, and everyone else in chrome using NVDA so that they don’t accumulate and all try to read to me every time I open the browser?

Hello,

I have another slight issue. My applications key doesn’t seem to work either. Any ideas as to how I can fix this? I do tend to use it a lot and it’s very strange that there’s an applications key on this keyboard but the key doesn’t seem to work.

The Brave browser seems to work very well with NVDA. Works much like Google Chrome. Are there any recommended settings or extensions to make it work even better?

Is It possible to enter Hangeul letters using braille display, or no?

Which is why people should stipulate what keyboard command scheme is being used unless they know the command is the same in either.  Considerable confusion would be eliminated.  Details should be given in discussing problems or procedures in general, even if they seem unimportant.  They may not be.

Sure! The prime example is when I launch a program, such as a browser. A few seconds later, I know I'm in the address bar, and a sighted person can confirm this to me, but there's no speech indicating this. Focus is really in the address bar, and I can type into it. It's just that NVDA hasn't tracked it. Alt+tabbing out then back in resolves it for the moment.

Running NVDA as a virtualise app using App-v

I've seen some attempts to package NVDA inside AppV, without much luck. May be we did it wrong, though.

As for audio ducking, I would say that it isn't at all important.

Hi guys, we use NVDA 2017.2 on Windows 7 and it is running as a virtualised app using App-v just fine.

We are moving to use Windows 10 and so are transferring our apps across to the new OS.

We've had a few hurdles with using the newest version of NVDA 2019.1.1 as a virtualised app in win 10 though, but we've gotten over them so far. There's one that we are facing now that we are at a loss as to how to fix or get around.

We start it up and it seems to work fine, but when we open the log viewer we see at the bottom:
WARNING - audioDucking._setDeuckingState(10:22:18:661)
Unable to set ducking state:ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED.

It may well be some settings on our side that we are missing ie permission on a folder or something like that as the error suggests, but we're just now sure what impact this error has.

Is anyone able to tell us what this means and what it affects and potentially which location it might be trying to access and not allowed?

Also, can I confirm that we can use NVDA as a virtualized app? Maybe we just got lucky with the older version, but in reality NVDA should not be run as a virtual app.

Thanks in advance.
