Re: Thunderbird and trash

Gene

I'm pretty sure there is a portable version of Thunderbird.  That would be the easiest thing to test with.  You could put an earlier portable version on your machine and not remove or disturb the version you are using now.  Immediately after you place the portable version on your machine, disconnect from the Internet and set the portable version not to update.  If you need to know how, ask before putting the program on your machine.

I will try to find a previous version, I will have to disable the automatic update of TB, otherwise I find myself still with this version.

I'll let you know.

Hi Gene,

I tried to delete the trash folder of an account and the related Trash.msf file, the path file appears from the account basket properties, in my case:

C:/Users/Adriano/AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird/Profiles/uaip436j.default/Mail/pop.mail.yahoo.it/

I restarted TB, and ... even worse, it did not erase anything anymore, it allowed me to correct the folder from the properties.

In the end I restored the 2 files from the Windows trash.

I do not know what to say, it seems that this happens also to other people, but not everyone.

Thanks to everyone anyway for the help.

I am always listening for other possible solutions.

Relating to the issue with thunderbird and compacting this piece from help support might help.

How can I configure compaction?

In the Tools | Options | Advanced | Network & Disk Space menu, you can:

  • disable automatic compaction (which is not recommended because your folders won't be regularly cleaned of deleted messages)
  • change the compaction threshold (for instance if you deal with a large volume of messages, you may use a larger threshold)

steps:

1. Launch nvda
2. Use nvda as normal and alt tab between many windows. I sometimes

3. Notice that sometimes alt tab fails to speak the window I'm on but

Regression: I can regress this to some builds last year, although I
thought it was a windows issue so never actually reported it..

Expected results:

I should be able to see the windows that i'm alt tabbing through

Windows version 10 1809 updated last Saturday to the latest.

Work around:
Restarting nvda always works to bring my alt tab behavior back. I

Control Panel, Power Options, then Change Plan Settings link for whichever plan you happen to have active at the moment.  This will bring up the options for turning off the display and sleep.   You also have the option, once you're in Control Panel, Power Options, to do as Mohamed has mentioned and activate the Change when the computer sleeps link if the only thing you wish to tweak is the sleep settings - which will default to those being used by the currently active power plan.

Re: Differences between using the NVDA and the browser commands search on a webpage

ADRIAN POCOCK

I tried the various find commands on i.e. chrome thunderbird and all work fine, perhaps a add-on is causing a problem with others.  Try running nvda in no add-ons.

Hope this helps as I am not an expert.

alt tab quits working at random when nvda is running

Sarah k Alawami

Summary: when using alt tab to get from program to program, nvda will sometimes not an-ounce the program O'm on when holding alt and hitting tab

steps:

  1. Launch nvda
  2. Use nvda as normal and alt tab between many windows. I sometimes have between 5 and 10 running..
  3. Notice that sometimes alt tab fails to speak the window I'm on but when I let go after let's say hitting tab 3 times I will gain focus on that window.

Regression: I can regress this to some builds last year, although I thought it was a windows issue so never actually reported it..

Expected results:

I should be able to see the windows that i'm alt tabbing through instead of getting silence

Windows version 10 1809 updated last Saturday to the latest.
32 gigs of ram, 4.0 ghz processor and 64 bit architecture.

Work around:
Restarting nvda always works to bring my alt tab behavior back. I just shut off my computer last night so no logs will be apparent. Is there a way I can retrieve the log from the time before I restarted nvda and before I shut down the computer?

This is random so I can't really say when this happens or give any pattern to how to make this happen.

Re: sleep in win 7

Control Panel, Power Options, then Change Plan Settings link for whichever plan you happen to have active at the moment.  This will bring up the options for turning off the display and sleep.   You also have the option, once you're in Control Panel, Power Options, to do as Mohamed has mentioned and activate the Change when the computer sleeps link if the only thing you wish to tweak is the sleep settings - which will default to those being used by the currently active power plan.

Re: Thunderbird and trash

Adriano Barbieri

Regards

Adriano

As I think about it further, uninstalling the program and reinstalling it may not accomplish anything. Brian distinguished between POP3 accounts and IMAP accounts. I don't use IMAP so I won't address that. My guess is that if you uninstall the program, it leaves your folders on the computer if you are using POP3. If there is a problem with the folder, uninstalling and reinstalling the program may accomplish nothing. removing the folder and allowing the program to automatically create a new one when you run it may solve the problem. I have no idea if going back to a previous version of the program would help. I don't use Thunderbird and I don't know how you would delete the folder but if you don't want to use shift delete and are using POP3, deleting the folder may be the best thing to try as a first attempt to solve the problem.

Did the problem start immediately after the upgrade? You may want to try to uninstall and reinstall the program or go back to the previous version and set it not to update. Or you may want to try shift delete, which should also solve the problem.

Are use three male clients
Apple on the two systems Mac and iPhone
And use thunderbird and that is the only one that ever asks to compact messages

Re: sleep in win 7

I believe you're looking for control panel>power options>change when the computer sleeps. Another way to get to this is by going in to the run dialog and typing "powercfg.cpl", without quotes.

Yes, I can go to sleep manually from the desktop in win 7, using nvda of course.

I think there may be something in the control panel where I can set sleep to happen after a period of inactivity.

Where or what is this?

Thanks,
