Re: Selecting a block of text.

hi quentin.
its the issue that i can confirm too!
i thought that maybe there is some problem in my windows, but now, i
am happy that someone confirmed my issue, and wished that you present
us a working solution.
i only tested with firefox and nvda selection sometimes works, sometimes not.
for example: i press f9 when i am in a particular heading.
then i press f10 for going to the next heading, i wish to select
entire content of previous heading, and its the reason that when i go
to next heading, press f10 to all content of previous heading to be
selected, that sometimes i observe the mentioned issue and sometimes
not!
i dont use addons, so, certainly its not related to addons.

Hi Ali,

Firstly, just to confirm that you are familiar with the current behaviour
of selecting with the review cursor - NVDA+F9 to mark the start of the
block, move to the end of the block and NVDA+F10 once to select the block
or NVDA+F10 twice quickly to select and copy it. If you use the review
cursor to select and then press control+c to copy for instance, it may not
work depending on whether it is possible to select text with the
conventional text cursor. If you press NVDA+f10 once and NVDA reports
"Cannot select text, press twice to copy", then you will need to copy by
pressing NVDA+F10 twice quickly.

It might be worth restarting NVDA with add-ons disabled, just to ensure
there are no add-ons playing up. Press NVDA+Q then down arrow to "Restart
with add-ons disabled" and press ENTER to restart, then try again.

Otherwise, if you set the log to debug (in the general settings with
NVDA+control+g then tab to the log level, down arrow to select debug and
enter to close), repeat the actions and then copy the log to an email to
me, I can have a look at exactly what is going on.

Kind regards

Quentin.

Re: Windows 1903

Hi,
Actually, that definition may need an update:
* Windows 10: the current version of Windows at the moment.
* Version 1903: technically called "release ID" that denotes when a particular snapshot of Windows 10 is released to the general public, denoting year and month of its target completion; in this case, March 2019, which did happen; it was tested by testers for a long time since then.
When we Windows 10 users talk about releases, we usually omit "Windows 10" from our communication, hence you'll see us use abbreviations such as "Version 1903" or just 1903. This will become a bit confusing for the next few weeks as Microsoft is currently working on the "next" big one that's planned for release around this time next year; bits of it will show up later this year in the form of another feature update.
Cheers,
Joseph

Re: Windows 1903

Hi,

It is a shorthand for Windows 10 Version 1903. Windows 10 is indeed the “last major” version of Windows as far as old ways of maintenance is concerned; Windows 10 uses continuous delivery, and since 2017, major upgrades to Windows 10 (termed “feature updates”) are released twice a year.

Cheers,

Joseph

Hi David,

Others have already suggested both the Microsoft Word with NVDA training module, and the NVDA Productivity bundle, so I won't labour that, except to confirm that yes, track changes is included, as well as comments, and other reviewing features of Word.  It was also designed for Word 2010, through to the latest 365, so will be suitable for you with Word 2013.

The Microsoft Word for NVDA module comes in electronic text (HTML, Word document, ePub and Kindle KFX formats in the one zip file) for $30 AUD (about $23 USD): https://www.nvaccess.org/product/microsoft-word-training-for-nvda-ebook/

It is also available in the NVDA Productivity bundle, which also includes Basic Training for NVDA (well worth working through first), as well as Excel and Outlook for NVDA modules, and telephone support: https://www.nvaccess.org/product/nvda-productivity-bundle/

Kind regards

Re: NVDA and Skype

Well I use skype8 for desktop and it works.

However, I don't really care for it or need it per say.

This has meant I have had to drastically change the way I do business.

So no skype calls at all.

Due to timezones that does take out a lot of a nusence for me anyway, it also does take away some business opertunities but not many.

Email, standard phone and physical contact is how I do it anyway right down to the roots.

Now the entire family are in whats app and while I will not join the mega group of junk which everyone in the international group joins  well who knows.

I don't have a reason to make skype my entire life just like I have no reason to make twitter or facebook my entire life either.

Hi Adriani,

Is it that the window is appearing but not responsive until you alt+tab away and back?  Or that it takes a little while to appear and it just happens that by the time you alt+tab away and back it has appeared?

This can happen if you have network drives that can take a few seconds to respond.  If you press F12 it should also bring up the same dialog.

If it is the save as dialog, that should be a relatively standard dialog.  If you try opening it from elsewhere such as Notepad, does it respond instantly?

Finally, if you set your NVDA log to "debug", it should show more information and may give some more insight into what is happening.  Press NVDA+control+g to open the NVDA general settings and tab to "log level".

You can access the log with NVDA+F1 and then copy it into an email.

Kind regards

Quentin.

You can use the command control tab to move from one tab to the next, which is equivalent to alt tabbing through different browser windows.  You don't have to use number commands unless you want to.  Also, since you can close the tab you are in with control f4, that is equivalent to closing one window with alt f4 while the other opened windows in the program remain opened.

If you have a lot of pages displayed, its better to use tabs.  If only a small number, it doesn't matter which you use.

Hi

Best bet is for you to go into the settings of chrome and set it to open windows instead of tabs it is much better.

Otherwise if it opens up a new tab each time to flip between them use the ctrl key + 1 to 9 been the 9th page.

I think the section you need is on start up under settings and get it to open a new page and put in a web address then it should be opening in a window if i remember right.

Have a look under my nvda tutorials for other programs page there is a tutorial on how to do that and do a home page etc.
