However it seems to have happened to people I know, not just blind people so maybe there is a problem for some machines. I'd have thought thy would disable shut down in such a case.

Clarissa,

The latest Windows 10 update that has been released was Version 1809. The spring 2019 release has not occurred yet, and will not until May 2019, and that's if it isn't delayed again.

I would very strongly suggest you contact the Microsoft Disability Help Desk as soon as possible on (800) 936-5900 ( https://hangouts.google.com/?action=chat&pn=%2B18009365900&hl=en&authuser=0 ). If you were running Version 1803 and this was the 1809 update, it can probably be rolled back. It should not have caused this issue with NVDA if it worked normally. It is critical that you figure out what's going on in regard to your Windows situation before anyone can move on to giving you good advice regarding how to proceed, or not proceed, with NVDA.

I'm BCcing this to the nvda chat group just in case but here are the
steps I'm taking

1. Launch chrome. I have the same trouble with Firefox
2. Go to web.telegram.org
3. Put your phone number in.
4. click next
5. Try to click the "OK button. I cannot do this, yet other people I
know have done this successfully. I've tried
* 1 object navigation
* 2 screen review
* 3 document review
* 4 routing and left clicking with the result that nvda says "there is
no object here" or "object has no location"
* 5. Left clicking with the mouse after trying to rout
* 6. Trying to use narrator with the result that that dialogue never
reads.

So does anyone have any tips here? I cannot do a video as my phone
number will be revealed and I don't want that.

Thanks.
Blessings and happy Sunday

Hello list,

I'm in search of an accessible price tracking service/extension. I've tried
CamelCamelCamel Keepa, Price Plus and Honey for example. For the usual
sites, Amazon, NewEgg, BestBuy and so on, but all in all, they don't really
provide this info in an accessible format. They're all pretty much
graph/chart driven. There is sometimes some info that can be accessed.
CamelCamelCamel can provide the highest/lowest price, but as far as more
detailed info? Not really.

Is anyone aware of a service/extension that can provide this sort of
information in an accessible manner? I'm guessing most likely in a table
format? To be clear, I'm not looking for a price tracker that can alert one
when there's a price drop. That I can get to work fine. It's the historical
price tracking stuff I'm interested in.

Full disclosure, my main screen reader is Jaws, but I can also use NVDA if
that makes any sort of a difference.

Thanks,

access to one like it as I used one online to write my paper regarding
the 20th century choral tone and how to improve it. You can use formats
such as MLA and APA etc.

On 14 Apr 2019, at 8:52, Brian's Mail list account via Groups.Io wrote:
Winamp Time Markers 1.1

Winamp Time Markers allows you to create time markers/bookmarks for the file currently playing in Winamp. You can create and restore markers for multiple files. You can also create multiple markers for the same file.

Selecting
"Create Marker"
will allow you to instantly create a marker for the currently playing file. The file can also be in pause mode. You can add a file which is stopped as well, but in this case it will basically act as a favorite and play from the beginning when it is selected. You will be prompted to type a name for the new marker. You can either type a name or leave it blank to use the title of the file currently loaded in Winamp. After you have added one or more markers, they will appear on the pop-up menu when you access it via the assignable global hotkey. Selecting a marker from the menu will load the associated file into Winamp and then start playback at the saved position. If the file is already loaded or playing, it will simply start playback at or jump to the saved position.

When the listview in the main window has focus, you can use the Delete key to delete, F2 to rename, Control+Up-Arrow to move up, Control+Down-Arrow to move down, and Enter to jump to the selected marker. You can use Control+M to create a marker and Control+J to jump to the selected marker even when the list does not have focus. Control+T will hide or minimize the program to the system tray depending on the settings. You can configure the folder where Winamp is located in the
"Settings"
dialog if you did not use the default installation folder.

In addition to the global hotkeys which you can assign in the
"Settings"
dialog, there are some hotkeys which will work only when the Winamp main window has focus.

\ Create a marker and use the current Winamp title as the marker name.
Shift+\ Create a marker and prompt for the marker name.
Control+\ Activate the Winamp Time Markers pop-up menu.

Additional Notes:

1. All markers are saved in the same folder as the program in a plain text file named
Markers.txt

2. By default the program is installed in the folder
C:\WinampTimeMarkers
You can change the installation folder during setup, but be aware that if you install it into the
Program Files
folder, the program may have problems writing to the directory due to insufficient permissions.

3. Do not attempt to use the program while multiple instances of Winamp are running. I have not tried to account for this yet so you will probably experience unpredictable results. Although if you create a marker using any of the hotkeys while a specific instance of Winamp is the active window, it will use that instance as the source for a new marker.

Finally, I wrote this over the last couple of days so there may still be unforeseen behavior and bugs.

If you want to use Winamp, you may. I don't know about other programs such as VLC player. This requires a few steps but it is very logical. Also, there is an NVDA Winamp add-on. I don't know what different functions it has.

To do this mmanually, do the following:
When you are at the point where you want to make the bookmark, pause play by pressing c.
Open the Winamp jump to time dialog, control j.
You are in a field that shows the current time position you are in.
NVDA says selected. That means you don't have to select it. Simply use control c to paste it to the clipboard.
Paste the time into a Notepad file and save it with whatever name you want wherever you want.
The next time you want to resume reading and use the manually created book mark equivalent, open the Notepad file, select the time with control a for select all, and copy it to the clipboard.
Close Notepad if you wish.
Start the file playing in Winamp. Pause it so you can hear your screen-reader easily.
Open the jump to time dialog, control j.
Paste the time in with control v.
Press enter.
You are now at the place where you want to resume.

This may sound like a lot of steps but they are very logical and use concepts, such as copy and paste that are commonly used in Windows and Windows programs. If you try this two or three times, you may find it is much easier than it may sound when reading.

Are you using Winamp with JAWS or NVDA? JAWS has a feature that allows you to make a book mark although that isn't part of the actual program. I don't know if NVDA has an add-on that does this. Whether it does or not, you can manually make the equivalent of one. If you want, I'll explain how.

Re: is there any voice similar or close to the ETI eloquence english voice

This is subjective and you may get many opinions.  I've seen claims that this or that voice is similar or can be made similar using the right settings but I've found none that is nearly comparable.  But since you are asking for free voices, you can, of course try them with no worries about paying or when they will time out.

I can't comment on the One Core voices.  I don't use Windows 10 and I'm not sure if they can be made to work in earlier versions.  How comparable they are to Eloquence, I don't know, but you may want to try them.  I've heard a number of people say they like them.  They are free.

Well I took this from a download I got from an earlier thread on this list. Its a stand alone bit of software and if you want to know more the contact details are at the end onf that read me file. I only used it once for a project I wanted it for and it worked but seemed a little clunky.
I guess it is a stand alone marker and hence not integrated into winamp.

I have other players and I use them for specific purposes where they
do something Winamp doesn't do or do it much better. But I use Winamp
for general use. I don't know if or how you would do this in other
players.

Gene,
Does it works with VLC as well? If not, is there any way to do
something similar using this player?

If you want to use Winamp, you may. I don't know about other
programs such as VLC player. This requires a few steps but it is very
logical. Also, there is an NVDA Winamp add-on. I don't know what
different functions it has.

To do this mmanually, do the following:
When you are at the point where you want to make the bookmark, pause
play by pressing c.
Open the Winamp jump to time dialog, control j.
You are in a field that shows the current time position you are in.
NVDA says selected. That means you don't have to select it. Simply
use control c to paste it to the clipboard.
Paste the time into a Notepad file and save it with whatever name you
want wherever you want.
The next time you want to resume reading and use the manually created
book mark equivalent, open the Notepad file, select the time with
control a for select all, and copy it to the clipboard.
Close Notepad if you wish.
Start the file playing in Winamp. Pause it so you can hear your
screen-reader easily.
Open the jump to time dialog, control j.
Paste the time in with control v.
Press enter.
You are now at the place where you want to resume.

This may sound like a lot of steps but they are very logical and use
concepts, such as copy and paste that are commonly used in Windows and
Windows programs. If you try this two or three times, you may find it
is much easier than it may sound when reading.

Are you using Winamp with JAWS or NVDA? JAWS has a feature that
allows you to make a book mark although that isn't part of the actual
program. I don't know if NVDA has an add-on that does this. Whether
it does or not, you can manually make the equivalent of one. If you
want, I'll explain how.

Karen,

What app are you using to read the audio book. Most that I have
used have their own bookmarking feature.

Crashing of Chrome under some circumstances I think. But I've seen other bits an pieces later including an apparent new version which has not actually appeared yet. I asked on the devel list but nobody answered it there either.
Strangely I am having issues with word slow downs on the rc and have now had to use the new alpha which seems to be better.

Re: Adding Time-Stop Marks to Audio Tracks

Evidently, it isn't an certified add-on.  I hope someone gets it certified because it may be useful for a lot of people who don't know about it.  It appears that Google doesn't know about this site.

Pascal,

It will be helpful if you can get specific about which Office program (or programs) you're having issues with, as there are a few things that may apply to all of them, but most will be specific to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

As Sarah has mentioned, there is actually a lot of material on the group archive regarding all of the various Office programs and NVDA.  Office 365 is directly based on Office 2016, so at the individual program controls level the two should be virtually identical.

If you wish to search the archive, located at https://nvda.groups.io/g/nvda/topics, there is a Search button at the very top of the page.  There are two important notes about doing searches on Groups.io (probably more, but these are the biggies):  If you are looking for something like Word 2016 make sure to enter it within quotes, otherwise you'll get every message that has either the word "word" or 2016, rather than someone mentioning "Word 2016".  The search results are also initially returned at the individual message level, which isn't particularly helpful, at least to me,others prefer it.  I far prefer to see topics.  To make that happen, activate the "Tools" button, check the "collapse topics" checkbox and, voila, the search results are now shown as topics.

One thing I've written up with regard to using Office that many seem to find useful is:  Adjusting Protected View Settings in MS-Office Programs
I cannot stand having these on by default and have disabled them in every Office program so that I'm not being endlessly nagged.  And those warnings are even more annoying when using a screen reader.  I only open attachments produced using MS-Office from sources I know I can trust, so I do not need nor want protected view.   This little reference document I threw together might prove helpful, too:  It contains a list of direct links to the Microsoft webpages with the keyboard shortcuts for each one of the major Office suite programs, which covers all the recent versions.

Not much in the archives but here's a thread that might help. And another thread that might help as well. There are a lot of searches in the archives re office 2016 but most are with 365 so I don't know if those are the same. Here is the search page

I don't use office on a windows machine although I know how a little bit.

Take care
