on the field of web accessibility.

Websites are primarily designed to be interacted with visually which is hard
to do if you have a visual impairment. Here I think there's big potential
for AI to help and look at the web page visually and then give correct and
helpful information to the visually impaired or blind user.

I'm also the creator of the newly created but fairly popular NVDA add-on,
"Image Describer", can be found at NVDA add-ons list, (if you're interested
in trying out): https://addons.nvda-project.org/index.en.html

I'm looking towards doing much more than this, please contact me or reply to
this thread if you want to get help with something accessibility wise or
have any kind of feedback.

Korean Braille and Hangul

Marco Oros

Anyeong haseyo!

This is special question for people from South Korea. Really, I don't know, if there are some North Koreans, so to be concrete, Koreans. There are various communities in China, Australia and U.S. of this unique nation for me.

But, stop those flattering writings about Koreans.

Every Koreans nowadays writes in korean script Hangeul (or chosongeul), but blind people uses Korean braille. Ofcourse, there are chinese characters Hanja, but It is for another message and It is not subject.

Is It true, that braille symbols of Koorean brailles are looking same, as korean featural alphabet Hangul, or not?

How is It? Because I have heard something and I would like to know, how It is real.

Gomabseumnida!

Re: Blind people typing Chinese

Larry Wang

If they were born blind they do not know the shape of characters since school of blind do not teach this. So they do not use Wubi.
If they were not born blind, they use wubi because they have already learned Wubi .

On 2019/4/13 13:37, Marco Oros wrote:

Or, how a chinese blind person know, how to type for example character for xiao flute in Wubi? So, You must know shape of this character, or something, like this.

Dňa 7. 4. 2019 o 11:26 Larry Wang napísal(a):
There are numerous Chinese input methods. This was a key problem when processing Chinese with computers. There are roughly one hunderd thousand number of Chinese characters. About six thousand of them are mostly used in daily life. But there are only about one hunderd keys on keyboard. At first publishing houses use big key board with many keys.
Input methods based on pinyin or zhuyin is not very popular at that time since you need to spend many time on finding the correct character you want to type. Also users at that time mostly rely on word processing jobs, accuracy and efficiency is important.
A man called Wang JiangMin invented WuBi.With that you can type in most Chinese character within four letters, as long as you memorize a set of rules and practice for about a week.
At about 2006, people brought smart prediction into pinyin input methods. The experience of pinyin input methods are much better now. Since most people in mainland China have already learned pinyin in primary school. Other types of input methods which requires additional rules practice start fading away. Few people learn other input methods. Wubi and other input methods are now learned by professionals and enthusiasts. Sougou is the most popular one of these pinyin input methods. But smart prediction is based on collecting your keyborad input data, so there is a privacy issue. Sougou pinyin also pop up advertisement sometimes. So I do not recomment using this. Input methods bundled with operation system is just enough.

Support for microsoft pinyin and wubi is broken in windows 10 and 8.1 so you may find it hard to use.

As for braille.
There are three types of braille in mainland China. Two of them are in NVDA, another one has just been published about a year ago and has not gain popularity yet. However all of them are based on pinyin. They cannot represent the shape of Chinese characters. Most schools for blind in mainland China do not teach how to write Chinese characters. So even if you use braille input, you still have to choose between many candidates. Someone created a braille based on Chinese characters, but it is not widely used. Braille display is more expensive than smart phones and computers and its usage is very limited. Braille has advantage in proof reading and learing but the nature of Chinese braille make braille less appealing for students. Word segmentation and tone mark makes braille even harder to understand. Even braile itself is not popular among blind people in China.

Using Google Calendar - Web or Computer App?

Bhavya shah

Dear all,

I am presently looking for a calendar app to set reminders about
activities I need to be doing on certain dates in the future. As an
Android and GMail user, I have instinctually turned to Google
Calendra.
1 Is Google Calendra even accessible with NVDA?
2 If so, which would you recommend I use - Google Calendra on the web
(if so, on Firefox or on Chrome?) or download the Google Calendra
application on my computer for better usability?
3 If Google Calendar is not particularly screen reader friendly, which
other free and accessible calendar programs would you recommend for
use with NVDA?

Note: I am looking at Google Calendar with particular emphasis because
I imagine that I would be able to sync Google Calendar which I control
on my computer with its corresponding aAndroid app which I have
installed on my Smartphone.

I would truly appreciate any assistance.

Thanks.

NVDA and the audible app for WINDOWS 10

Chris Shook

Hi,
Does the Audible app for WINDOWS 10 work with NVDA?

Re: Observation of Reply Behaviour of Some List Members

To be honest, if you get this abuse you should switch off those lists.

I have been banned for being out of timezone, usually I have looked at lists and answered what I think I should.

Most of the back and forth chat I usually don't answer especially if its not directed at me or is a general message, and it goes without saying that unless its open and I think I can answer it I just don't bother.

Yeah, dialup still exists.

It depends on what you have though.

Gmail definitely makes a load of difference.

In the early days 2001 I think, I was in a bording education system using their secured network.

SSl was available but not as yet via the net.

Email lists via isps worked through pop but if you were in a secured network with strict filtering this never worked.

I kept being told I was spamming and being bounced, I was routeenly being banned by moderators because of bouncing.

I was able to contact yahoo I think for yahoogroups and get them to unbounce me every time that happened, then when I got home I had to handle all the traffic from my local network.

A year later we got ssl.

Now days we don't even think about it anymore.

My isp is now fully ssl and while its faster to go unprotected I wouldn't go back.

Dsl was good as was adsl but with the event of fibre and wireless broadband its a load better still.

There are still issues with wireless signals, and once my isp stops having issues with ac routers and some mobile devices I will be upgrading my internal coms isp controler and extra hardware but at least now, my extender is getting the full 300 mbps rather than the 150 mbps it was getting so thats a pluss.

My aunt has mobile wireless and that just works.

I can remember where you used 1 device per line and had to limit to time what was what.

Fortunately, that's all over now since 2001 and my cable modem service.

You just want me to consider something as common which decades of experience tell me absolutely is not.  I will not be changing my mind on this, as the facts don't support a change of mind.

new dropbox rules

Hi all.

This is a small warning to everyone that uses dropbox.

From march this year, all basic accounts are limited to 3 devices.

What does that mean?

Nothing, except that dropbox remembers every device and session ever made.

So you reformat your computer or change your account name, or get another computer and don't unlink first, your device becomes a ghost device same with app programs, and brouser sessions.

1.  sign into dropbox.

The easiest way to do this is to login with your own client, click the tray icon and launch dropbox.

Now near the top of the page is a menu called my account hit space on that, scroll down to settings, hit shift space to exit forms mode then hit enter.

Don't move about else things will just not work right.

Now dropbox settings load.

hit control home for the top of the page then h.

2.  select security tab, in the same way, enter forms mode once you scroll down to the list of tabs, and locate security.

get out of forms mode and hit enter.

Next control home again.

then hit t.

3.  The next thing to do is locate every session in the first table which has an end session button it and hit the space bar till they are all gone.

Next  locate the device tree which is directly below the brouser treeview.

The first device in the list is your device.

scroll to the end of that list.

Every device you have ever linked including every ghost device linked in the past will exist, I had 6, my dad had 2.

Hit unlink button on all the devices bar the one that says its been modified in the last hour.

Every other device will have a time when it was last valid.

Finally go through the steps of going to my account, then settingss however next select the connected apps view.

Then disconnect every app you don't use and service.

If you need to link devices take note of the devices you want to connect.

A basic user can connect up to 3 devices.

Those can be a computer, a phone and one other device or 3 computers.

You can buy, but to be honest, if you get this warning and are only using 1 device, then you probably have a lot of ghost devices.

I'd also update your password at this time if you have forgotten it if you havn't allready.

I'd also check to see if you know what all the devices you have are, if you find something you don't know, then chances are someone has hacked your account or you linked to a device somewhere else.

In a way this while annoying is good in a way.

I had no idea dropbox kept all devices from all reformats and all times I had changed dropbox.

I had 6 devices, 1 is my device I had.

The next one before that was my old win7 device which I may relink later.

The rest were my win7 and xp devices and their reformats including profile changes etc.

My apps were not needed ones and I clobbered them.

As for my brouser sessions including the current one there were 19 others which were still signed in from devices that were no longer active.

In the case of my dad's system, there were 2 devices, the current one, and an older instance of the same device which existed before it, its good to know that I was able to kill things.

Now I know about this, if I need to reformat my first thing after I get back in is to kill the ghost devices that linger inactive after the fact.

This actually is a good reason to check security on my account if anything else.

Its worth noting that if you need more space and upgrade you won't have to bother with this though even if you do knowing what I had, its worth looking at the site anyway.

I didn't need all those 20 sessions logged in at once, nore did I need the 6 devices 4 of which were ghosts of old linked devices and one which is not on the network.

I guess knowing that I could link that one but even so I will be carefull to check every linked system I service to make sure its all clear of stuff that shouldn't be on it.

Well I personally had a lot of out of sequence stuff when I used dial-up.  I used to get yelled at by hard headed moderators for answering messages that had already been answered and I hadn't received them as of yet.  Then an hour or 2 after the moderator's displeasure, there it came big as life.  That's why for a while there back in about 1999, I was very tentative about answering messages on some lists for fear that they had already been answered and I would get an abusive comment from some moderator.

Fortunately, that's all over now since 2001 and my cable modem service.

Flaming those people/countries is not good Internet practice
That you consider statement of fact "flaming" is a reflection on you, not me.   I used dial-up for well over a decade.  It's painfully slow but it never resulted in e-mail being delivered out of sequence.  The stuff is coming straight off of the server, which already has it sequenced long before I get to it.

You just want me to consider something as common which decades of experience tell me absolutely is not.  I will not be changing my mind on this, as the facts don't support a change of mind.

Subject: [nvda] Free captcha solving chrome extension

Hi!

I just wanted to announce that I'm now releasing a Chrome Extension for automatic captcha solving.

You can download the extension here: http://www.screenreader.ai/download_captcha_solver.html

I'm a sighted machine learning researcher that recently have caught an eye on the field of web accessibility.

Websites are primarily designed to be interacted with visually which is hard to do if you have a visual impairment. Here I think there's big potential for AI to help and look at the web page visually and then give correct and helpful information to the visually impaired or blind user.

I'm also the creator of the newly created but fairly popular NVDA add-on, "Image Describer", can be found at NVDA add-ons list, (if you're interested in trying out): https://addons.nvda-project.org/index.en.html

I'm looking towards doing much more than this, please contact me or reply to this thread if you want to get help with something accessibility wise or have any kind of feedback.

Hi.

At no time have I heard any flaming from the moderator. However, as the person that initiated this thread, I have gotten some great reasons and responses to my question. It can be a combination of attitudes and behaviours, as well as technology and software playing a role in the late delivery of messages. Still, I hope this type of issue can be resolved.

Hi.

So in other words, you know this happens, but for your own comfort, and disregarding the views of others, you won't seek to address it with a simple solution? Because that is how life is, and we should live with it?

NVDA and the app for WINDOWS 10

Hi,
Does the Audible app for WINDOWS 10 work with NVDA? If not, is there anyway to make Audible app for WINDOWS 10 work with NVDA?
Thanks
