Hi All,

For those of you using zotero, do not update to the latest update
released on april 11. It brakes the reading of lists in folders.
NVDA anounces grid unavailable, and plays the error sound.

Yep.  This is one of those situations where the screen reader itself is getting "mixed signals" about what it needs to be paying attention to at a specific moment in time, and the state change triggered by the "special message" wins over the digit typed.   Sometimes, you just can't win!

It would be nice, though, were the coders for the websites in question to set things up such that these messages get triggered once, not repeatedly, once that information has been presented correctly in context.  That being said, the snarky response, "Good luck with that!," springs immediately to mind.

Re: Adding Time-Stop Marks to Audio Tracks

Is this an nvda add on? Or or an add on for winamp? I'm old so am drawing a blank. This sounds nice, and reminds me of the time mark feature when I used to use winamp way back in 2010.

On 14 Apr 2019, at 8:52, Brian's Mail list account via Groups.Io wrote:

Winamp Time Markers 1.1

Winamp Time Markers allows you to create time markers/bookmarks for the file currently playing in Winamp. You can create and restore markers for multiple files. You can also create multiple markers for the same file.

Selecting
"Create Marker"
will allow you to instantly create a marker for the currently playing file. The file can also be in pause mode. You can add a file which is stopped as well, but in this case it will basically act as a favorite and play from the beginning when it is selected. You will be prompted to type a name for the new marker. You can either type a name or leave it blank to use the title of the file currently loaded in Winamp. After you have added one or more markers, they will appear on the pop-up menu when you access it via the assignable global hotkey. Selecting a marker from the menu will load the associated file into Winamp and then start playback at the saved position. If the file is already loaded or playing, it will simply start playback at or jump to the saved position.

When the listview in the main window has focus, you can use the Delete key to delete, F2 to rename, Control+Up-Arrow to move up, Control+Down-Arrow to move down, and Enter to jump to the selected marker. You can use Control+M to create a marker and Control+J to jump to the selected marker even when the list does not have focus. Control+T will hide or minimize the program to the system tray depending on the settings. You can configure the folder where Winamp is located in the
"Settings"
dialog if you did not use the default installation folder.

In addition to the global hotkeys which you can assign in the
"Settings"
dialog, there are some hotkeys which will work only when the Winamp main window has focus.

\ Create a marker and use the current Winamp title as the marker name.
Shift+\ Create a marker and prompt for the marker name.
Control+\ Activate the Winamp Time Markers pop-up menu.

Additional Notes:

1. All markers are saved in the same folder as the program in a plain text file named
Markers.txt

2. By default the program is installed in the folder
C:\WinampTimeMarkers
You can change the installation folder during setup, but be aware that if you install it into the
Program Files
folder, the program may have problems writing to the directory due to insufficient permissions.

3. Do not attempt to use the program while multiple instances of Winamp are running. I have not tried to account for this yet so you will probably experience unpredictable results. Although if you create a marker using any of the hotkeys while a specific instance of Winamp is the active window, it will use that instance as the source for a new marker.

Finally, I wrote this over the last couple of days so there may still be unforeseen behavior and bugs.

Announcements about updates to Winamp Time Markers and my other projects will be posted on the Tech Talk mailing list.

If you want to use Winamp, you may. I don't know about other programs such as VLC player. This requires a few steps but it is very logical. Also, there is an NVDA Winamp add-on. I don't know what different functions it has.

To do this mmanually, do the following:
When you are at the point where you want to make the bookmark, pause play by pressing c.
Open the Winamp jump to time dialog, control j.
You are in a field that shows the current time position you are in.
NVDA says selected. That means you don't have to select it. Simply use control c to paste it to the clipboard.
Paste the time into a Notepad file and save it with whatever name you want wherever you want.
The next time you want to resume reading and use the manually created book mark equivalent, open the Notepad file, select the time with control a for select all, and copy it to the clipboard.
Close Notepad if you wish.
Start the file playing in Winamp. Pause it so you can hear your screen-reader easily.
Open the jump to time dialog, control j.
Paste the time in with control v.
Press enter.
You are now at the place where you want to resume.

This may sound like a lot of steps but they are very logical and use concepts, such as copy and paste that are commonly used in Windows and Windows programs. If you try this two or three times, you may find it is much easier than it may sound when reading.

Are you using Winamp with JAWS or NVDA? JAWS has a feature that allows you to make a book mark although that isn't part of the actual program. I don't know if NVDA has an add-on that does this. Whether it does or not, you can manually make the equivalent of one. If you want, I'll explain how.

Actually don't laugh. Really, don't. I hear you laughing. Anyway. That's how I do things anyway in case the website or browser crash, the computer does etc. I always type anything long ish outside my browser, sometimes outside my email client such as a report to a student etc. So for me this comes natural. I'm paranoid.

That is not for creating a book mark as the term is being used here. That is for bookmarking a stream. the question under discussion is how to create a time marker, which is being referred to as a book mark and which I have seen called that as another meaning of the term.

Karen,

I first thought about audio book readers to purchase, but realized you would likely wish to do this without additional cost.

At Microsoft Community, I

found a way to use Windows Media Player to read audio books, and with a free plugin WMP will create a single bookmark wherever you stop reading. I will tri this tomorrow if you want to wait, but let’s see what the list may think.

I have copied the text of the solution below, but at the very bottom I have included the URL as well.

Rick

There is an automatic plugin you can download and install that will allow you to resume where you last left, however, I do not believe it allows you to set multiple book marks. You can search online for a 3rd-party plugin, but this may do it for you:

1. Go to: http://www.catenalogic.com/downloads/mymediabookmarks/mymediabookmarks_exe_1.2.exe

2. Download the plugin and install

3. Open Windows Media Player

4. The initial setup will launch, it will want to update. Go through all the prompts and once it asks if you would like to close Windows Media Player now, go ahead and hit the 'X' in Windows Media Player (NOT the 'X' in the small update popup window that's telling you to close Windows Media Player)

5. From here, once the update is complete, restart Windows Media Player and either play audio or watch a video. The process is automatic, though you can go into the plugin options and uncheck the automatic bookmark settings. Basically, if you're listening to or watching something and you just close out of Windows Media Player, or select a different file, the next time you go back into the audio or video file, it will resume from its last spot.

Hope this helps,

I can drop box them for you they are about 340 meg with all voices and the
speech platform runtime engine.

You will need a program like 7 zip or one that can unzip the files for you
first. When done look for the speech platform runtime engine and install it
first. It is the only file that does not have the name of the file with TTS
in in standing for text to speech and the name of the voice and language.

You can get it from my drop box account at
https://www.dropbox.com/s/0rokrf6a4qijsvf/Speech%20Platform%2011%20engine%20and%20voices.zip?dl=0

The speech hub package also has other synths and voices but in a package and
can be gotten off the following website at http://www.speakon.org.uk/

When you download the speech hub package you will also need to install the
add on so nvda can see the synths and voices. So the main package will get
installed then under your c: drive program files x86 then speech hub then
the folder for the add on it will need to be installed into nvda. Then later
on you can change to those other synth and voices.

There may be other software there that you may like to try.

Did you download the attachment again?  At times, downloads become corrupted
and you don't get an error message during the download.  Always download
whatever you are working with again if the first download doesn't work as
expected.

It sounds as though something is missing in the download you did.

You can download the extension

Websites are primarily designed to be interacted with visually which is hard
to do if you have a visual impairment. Here I think there's big potential
for AI to help and look at the web page visually and then give correct and
helpful information to the visually impaired or blind user.
I'm also the creator of the newly created but fairly popular NVDA add-on,
