Hi everyone!

Sorry for making this extremely confusing for you all :(

I removed the Firefox version for now since I need it to be signed for it to be able to be run permanently. I'm looking into if this has the possibility to be signed, this process may take some week, right now I only support Chrome.

When you go to the download page for Firefox you'll be redirected to Chrome for now: http://www.screenreader.ai/download_captcha_solver.html

If you know any way to run it permanently other than signing it, please contact me at oliver.edholm@...

Re: new dropbox rules

Well you will have to click the account menu, select settings, nvda space out of forms mode and click enter.

hit h, then scroll to the tabs, get into forms mode again, select security, get out, hit enter

hit control home, hit t twice, find the devices hit the button that says unlink, hit it again till it shows up hit unlink again, it will be gone.

Firstly no it does not effect shared folders.

Iff you have machines linked daily, they will stay linked.

But if you for any reason need to reformat, or something you will not be

able to link till your linked devices are cleared.

If you need to use more than 3 units at one time, and for a basic user

its highly unlikely you should need many units, I have a few suggestions.

1.  while a real pain, buying an upgrade to your account may be the

easiest option.

2.  you can of course use the website for unlimited devices its all the

linked client deals.

I suggest you view your devices, any machines with new profiles on

accounts, reformats, xp and other wise, well the older units will exist

but be inactive.

You may need to make other accounts for extra machines if you really

need that.

To be honest, if you are really using more then 3 units daily, and don't

want to pay for dropbox storage space, you could buy google storage space.

While its quite a lot for over 2tb of storage, a 100-200mb storage space

doesn't cost that much.

On icloud its a little more but 200 mb is still only 10 bucks, dropbox

is 9 bucks for 1tb though.

To be honest if it is part of your work and or something you really use,

I'd try to stomach all the stuff that went with it and get the full

office 360, that can be 100 or so a year but you get office, the space,

and basically the skype version of your cellphone plan from any previder.

There is no reason for anyone to need more than 3 devices, 2 at most.

If you really need to sync things and while you will not be able to use

a credit card, it may be easier to buy resilio home pro for 50 bucks,

you will need the space to sync folders but you can supposedly selective

sync the folders and share keys about.

How many of the devices are daily uses, and how many devices do you need

synced.

If its 5 fine, but I doubt its really that.

For saldom used devices, maybe its easier to unlink everything bar the

most used devices your phone and at least 1 pc instance, then simply

transfer about.

I have another pc on win7 about, but I don't really need to sync that

with dropbox as such for what I use it for though I guess I can do that

I just have to remember to police my device and session lists thats not

a real issue if you think about it.

To be honest, I'd like an ability to have a device if not used in say 6

months to a year to be automatically kulled from the linked device list.

In my mind its completely unlikely you will need to use more than 3

units, certainly a laptop and a phone maybe but not both.

For me, I don't know if I would bother linking my phone to dropbox for

the reason I really don't need anything of that on my phone to do

anything with.

I have 1 unit and 1 only on client.

Knowing what dropbox is now, I do think if I actually got into a

business, I'd gofor a 5 user personal or business pack of office linked

things rather than dropbox, or dropbox 1tb maybe I'd do that thats still

quite cheap I guess.

Re: new dropbox rules

No it doesn't, sessions you signed in will stay open, devices that are linked unless you unlink one will stay linked.

Thats fine right now but if you need to reformat or put in a new device you either have to upgrade or choose what device you need linked or not.

To be honest, if you kill all the ghost devices manually you shouldn't have a problem, I mean no one is going to be able to use more than 3 devices at any 1 time and thats the crux of it.

Now if you do need 5 devices or higher for constant dropbox sync, maybe something like resilio sync over a server of one of your systems is the way to go.

The free one can be used to sync to whatever you want easily enough though its a bit more work and you need the space but it still can be done.

If you need 5 devices or so running at once or more then you may want to upgrade or get degoo or something.

I have signed up to degoo, thanks to a referal link I got but for me dropbox works in basic mode fine, I only have 1 device active at any one time and I probably will not ever link more than 1 maybe 2 devices.

Most of what is on dropbox  is for my windows computer and what isn't I want to run on my windows computer so I am never going to run out of space ever anyway or devices.

Re: dropbox rules sharing links

Well maybe, but if you kill all the devices that you don't use its still good.

Put it this way its going to narrow down on spam accounts and such.

3 devices is fine for basic users, if you have more than 3 devices then you probably need more than a basic user anyway which is probably their logic behind this.

Re: Using Google Calendar - Web or Computer App?

Dear all,

A few responses:
* I don't think I'll be switching to an alternate e-mail client such
as Thunderbird altogether in the near future. Thanks for suggesting
though.
* I do use the same GMail account on my computer and my phone. Hence,
as you described, automatic synchronization should occur and would be
of great convenience.
* Given that Google Calendar on the web is accessible in the view of
more than one individual, I'll try that out. I'll revert in case I
face any difficulties in its usage.

Many thanks to everyone for the prompt answers.

Thanks.

Dear Sociohack,

Thank you so much for your detailed instructions. I am now able to
navigate heading by heading whilst in focus mode itself in Word. I
would like to suggest just one alteration in your instructions based
on what just worked for me - in step 8, I use Ctrl+PgUp/PgDn rather

Thanks.

already activated the button becomes "Less" and alt+m doesn't do anything

3) Press ALT+O to open the Format button / menu.

4. select the 'style' button from this menu

NOTE: I SENT THIS MESSAGE BODY TO ANOTHER LIST, SO SORRY IF IT IS IDENTICAL TO THOSE WHO HAVE ALREADY RECEIVED IT.  I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT OLIVER SEES THIS ISSUE ABOUT SIGNING.

Hi Group,

I thought the signing process was not that difficult. According to James Scholes who got the original Webvisum extension signed, all you had to do was to submit the project to Mozilla Development and they would put it through some tests to see if it was secure and stable enough and then they would sign it.

James discontinued the development of the extension when Firefox changed it's architecture to this new Quantum protocol which made the old Webvisum signed or not incompatible and James said it would be too difficult with his limited time and resources to continue.  It wasn't the signing process, but the switch to different architecture for the browser that sank Webvisum.

How long ago did you download the Firefox extension.  It has been reported as no longer available by many people.  It isn't reasonable, though I haven't checked the site or the link myself, to assume all these people are wrong.  You probably downloaded the Firefox extension hours ago, when it was available.  That doesn't mean it is now.

Dear, the matter of fact is that there are two extensions.

One is for google chrome and the second one is for fire fox.

I have downloaded both one and used both of them successfully.

The only thing I didn’t like is that in fire fox you have to do the whole process every time whenever you want to solve captcha whereas in google chrome you don’t need to do every time.

Re: NVDA List, A Reboot #adminnotice

Hello All NVDA List Members,

Well, the Reboot is officially upon us, per the list owner, Nimer Jaber’s, directive in his administrative notice, Important: List Conduct.   Application of the rules and guidelines will begin as of midnight on April 14, 2019.  I sincerely ask the membership to help during this transition.

I will be copying the Reboot document immediately following this introduction.  The first thing I want to emphasize is that the main thing we are asking each and every member to do, prior to choosing whether to launch a new topic on the main NVDA group versus the Chat Subgroup, is to ask yourself the question:  “Is what I’m about to ask related to using NVDA directly to accomplish something, using a specific program with NVDA, or to control NVDA itself?”   If you feel the answer is, “Yes,” then launch that topic on the main NVDA group, and if , “No,” on the Chat subgroup (which has not been, at least primarily, composed of “chit chat”).

It is not my intent, and I’m certain that it’s not Nimer’s, either, to be unduly restrictive nor punishing.  This being a period of transition all of us, including me, will be doing some feeling out and finding our respective footing.  So, if I ask that a topic be moved, whether from main to chat or vice versa, it’s a way for you to see what I’m thinking about how, “the one rule,” embodied in the question previously mentioned should be applied.  Asking for a topic to be taken up “on the other side” should not be considered a chastisement, nor should my locking a topic to prevent further replies on what I’ve classified as “the wrong side” for that particular topic.   I have options limited by Groups.io to allow me to guide and steer.  Eventually we’ll all be “on the same page” after enough time, and examples, have gone by.  There will be plenty of times where the distinction will be less than entirely clear, too, and other times where it’s crystal clear.  I shall try my best to be consistent, and will sometimes fail, I’m sure.

Again, for your convenience, the Chat Subgroup addresses are:

Only members of the NVDA Group are eligible to subscribe to the Chat Subgroup, and this is how subgroups work on Groups.io.  You must be a member of the parent group first.

My final note is that the Reboot document is, by its nature, prescriptive.  It lays out “the one rule” along with a lot of guidelines.  Guidelines are not demands or orders, but requests for very serious consideration, which we hope you all will give them.   If there are any questions regarding learning how to follow any of those guidelines, please ask on the Chat subgroup.  There are many, including myself, ready, willing, and able to assist you with that and all sorts of other technical questions not related to NVDA itself.  You now have a venue to seek those answers among a group of people you already know.

Brian Vogel

NVDA Group Moderator

The NVDA Group – A Reboot

The NVDA Group has as its central purpose discussing how to use NVDA in order to accomplish any specific task an end user has in mind.  Like all screen readers, it is a tool for accessing something else, and really serves no other purpose.  Its function as an accessibility tool is, of course, its reason for being.

The group has existed for some time now with “unwritten rules or guidelines” some of which really do warrant being put into writing, and I will try to set forth some of those here, illustrating some with examples.

The group has subgroups, the main one of which is the Chat Subgroup (see: https://nvda.groups.io/g/chat, Group Email Addresses section) that has as its purpose the asking of virtually any “off-topic” question about anything you can think of, including just socializing.  It should be used for exactly that purpose.  If you ask yourself the question, “Is what I’m about to ask related to using NVDA directly to accomplish something, using a specific program with NVDA, or to control NVDA itself?,” and the answer is, “No,” then the topic belongs in the NVDA Chat Subgroup, not on the main group.

Respectful, even if slightly heated, disagreements will occur occasionally and will be tolerated provided what is described next does not occur.  Flaming, name calling, instigating arguments for their own sake that do nothing to advance anyone’s knowledge, pointed rudeness, and similar boorish behavior will not be tolerated.  If at any point one of you happens upon a message anywhere in the NVDA Group sphere, main or chat, that you feel fits that description then please report it to the group owner either via e-mail at, nvda+owner@nvda.groups.io, or, if you read via the web interface at https://nvda.groups.io/g/nvda/topics, then use the Report this message option that’s a part of the More button at the end of each message.  Please don’t add a protest message the topic.  If we receive a report and agree with it, the issue will be taken care of promptly.

In order to make your experience with the NVDA Group as easy as it can be, we are asking members to please consider the following:

1.       Using threaded or conversation view in their respective e-mail client programs and reading through the entirety of a thread before replying.  It gets you completely up to speed and avoids a lot of repetition.  If you choose not to use threaded/conversation view, please take the time to read through all messages from the group that are in your inbox prior to adding any reply to the group.  It’s the only way you can be sure you’re up to speed on any topic when not using threaded/conversation view.

2.       If you are virtually certain that your question has likely been asked, and answered, in the past please search the Group Archive first.  The Group Archive is located at  https://nvda.groups.io/g/nvda/topics.  At the very top of the page is a search button that allows you to enter the search terms, including exact phrases if you enclose them in quotations, you need to find what you’re looking for.  If you get too much back, and need to whittle it down further, there is a Tools button on the search results page that lets you do this in a variety of ways such as specifying a time range, collapsing the individual messages back into topics, and excluding text in signatures.   You can also use a web search, if you prefer, where you include the search term site:nvda.groups.io/g/nvda/topics with whatever other search operators you might wish to get a narrower result.  Also consider using a web search first for questions that have almost certainly been asked frequently and for which myriad answers, often in the form of tutorials, already exist.

3.       Think very carefully about the title you are going to give any topic you post.  The topic is the first (and, sometimes, only) thing a member sees and that may be how they decide if they’re going to look further.   Generic titles, such as “Help Me!,” are not helpful because they give no idea about what.  Compare that to something like, “NVDA not reading Excel cell contents,” or, “NVDA setting for pronouncing numbers,” where the exact issue where help is needed is front and center.   Even something like, “Need help with the following . . .,” lets the reader know that you are going to present a list of issues.

4.       Please avoid, “What is the best . . .?,” topics, because what qualifies as “best” is entirely subjective.   Topics of this sort are also always chat topics.  If you know you have specific needs then asking, “What {insert program type here} has the following features . . .,” is much more descriptive.   If you want to know what programs people like for a specific task, asking, “What’s your favorite . . . and why?,” is far more likely to get you the details you want to have.  Notice that none of the above questions include, “to work with NVDA.”  If you’re asking something like, “Which {insert program class here} has worked well for you with NVDA?,” then it’s a main group topic.

5.       Any topic that is not about using NVDA to accomplish a task, or how to control NVDA, belongs in the chat subgroup, not the main group.

The moderator and owner will be taking the above into account, and will be trying follow those guidelines very closely for themselves and all members, which really should not be difficult.  There will likely be some locking of topics the main group accompanied by a note that the chat subgroup is where it should be taken up until it becomes habitual for those looking for “off central topic” information to start topics on the chat group.  If we lock your topic please do not take it as a personal affront; this transition will come more naturally to some than others, and there are limited options for gentle guidance after a point.

I will also ask that everyone take the time to read the following tutorial, which I put together, about:

Controlling the Messages You Receive via E-Mail from Groups.io (docx)

Controlling the Messages You Receive via E-Mail from Groups.io  (PDF)

Each of you has the ability to mute topics that don’t interest you, get digests instead of individual messages, or to set up topic preview for yourself via the Following Only and First Messages Also features used in conjunction with each other.  It is up to you to use those to manage your e-mail as you see fit.  It’s almost certain that there will be plenty of topics on the chat subgroup that will not be of the least interest to you as an individual. Setting up topic preview lets you pick and choose what you want to continue to see, and this function can be used on any Groups.io group.

Cultures are created by the consistent application of guidelines and rules, and that’s what we’re setting out to do.

Sincerely,

Nimer Jaber                                     Brian Vogel

I looked at the information for the NVDA Winamp add-on.  It doesn't have the ability to create and work with bookmarks, or whatever else you might want to call them such as time markers.  That doesn't mean that no one has devised something, but a Google search showed no such results.

If you want to use Winamp, you may.  I don't know about other programs such as VLC player.  This requires a few steps but it is very logical.  Also, there is an NVDA Winamp add-on.  I don't know what different functions it has.

To do this mmanually, do the following:
When you are at the point where you want to make the bookmark, pause play by pressing c.
Open the Winamp jump to time dialog, control j.
You are in a field that shows the current time position you are in.
NVDA says selected.  That means you don't have to select it.  Simply use control c to paste it to the clipboard.
Paste the time into a Notepad file and save it with whatever name you want wherever you want.
The next time you want to resume reading and use the manually created book mark equivalent, open the Notepad file, select the time with control a for select all, and copy it to the clipboard.
Close Notepad if you wish.
Start the file playing in Winamp.  Pause it so you can hear your screen-reader easily.
Open the jump to time dialog, control j.
Paste the time in with control v.
Press enter.
You are now at the place where you want to resume.

This may sound like a lot of steps but they are very logical and use concepts, such as copy and paste that are commonly used in Windows and Windows programs.  If you try this two or three times, you may find it is much easier than it may sound when reading.

Are you using Winamp with JAWS or NVDA?  JAWS has a feature that allows you to make a book mark although that isn't part of the actual program.  I don't know if NVDA has an add-on that does this.  Whether it does or not, you can manually make the equivalent of one. If you want, I'll explain how.

Re: Adding Time-Stop Marks to Audio Tracks

I have other players and I use them for specific purposes where they do something Winamp doesn't do or do it much better.  But I use Winamp for general use.  I don't know if or how you would do this in other players.

How long ago did you download the Firefox extension. It has been reported
as no longer available by many people. It isn't reasonable, though I
haven't checked the site or the link myself, to assume all these people are
wrong. You probably downloaded the Firefox extension hours ago, when it was
available. That doesn't mean it is now.

Dear, the matter of fact is that there are two extensions.

One is for google chrome and the second one is for fire fox.

I have downloaded both one and used both of them successfully.

The only thing I didn’t like is that in fire fox you have to do the whole
process every time whenever you want to solve captcha whereas in google
chrome you don’t need to do every time.

Re: Adding Time-Stop Marks to Audio Tracks
