Re: I Can't get the latest version of NVDA to install

My guess is that there is some sort of corruption in your Windows 10 installation.   You can try the following to see if it fixes the issue and allows you to succeed in installing NVDA.  Even if it doesn't, make note of any error messages (or take screen shots) so that you'll have same when you talk to Microsoft.

Using SFC (System File Checker) and DISM (Deployment Imaging Servicing and Management) to Repair Windows 8 & 10

Hi,

I tried both of these. Narrator with or without admin privileges is still not working. I have tried absolutely all suggestions from list members. I'm sure getting curious as to what is going on!

Thank you,

Hi,
the music is expected, and is the NVDA audio logo. I'm quite sure that
this is not an anti-malware problem, as the fact it's playing music
clearly indicates it's executing.
Have you tried using Narrator to grab any and all messages it might
display when it fails?
Have you tried running it with admin privileges? Do not do that if at
all unsure about whether or not it's the correct file.
Best,
Felix

Hi Brian and all,

I have tried all of everyone's suggestions with no luck. I did not get a chance to contact Microsoft's Disability Desk today but I will do that tomorrow.

So many list members pitched in to offer very very, good advice. I will let everyone know the solution if I come up with one.

Again, , many thanks,

If you want it to download with no prompt from the dropbox link given.
Cut and paste the link into notepad, change the0 at the end to a 1 and then
cut it from there and paste it directly into the address bar of the browser.
I'd also suggest that if you have other browsers on the machine you try it
with a different one as it could be that the browser has become faulty
somehow. it is always a good thing to have more then one browser.

Hi

For the latest version you can grab it from my drop box account at
https://www.dropbox.com/s/cg23n7knez2pzyx/nvda_2019.1.exe?dl=0

It sounds if it is only 1 meg or so it is still downloading and the full
version is about 22 meg.

You can check on your downloads by pressing the CTRL key + letter J to bring
up the downloader in your browser.

Could i ask also what version of Windows are you running as if it is XP or
vista you can only go up to nvda 2017.3 but 7 and up you can grab the
latest.

I am trying to edit a powerpoint presentation I’m working on with some of my classmates. So far we have two slides. When I press control plus N to create slide three. NVDA says slide one. I started editing the slide. But when I saved it, it appears to have gotten saved as a separate powerpoint from the one we were working on. Basically, my new slides do not show up in the powerpoint we’re working on. Howdo I edit the powerpoint we already started without creating a new presentation?

I hope this makes sense.

You can use "T" to go to next table.
You can also use "N" to go to the next block of text after links.
Or, the easiest way, you can simply hit "CTRL+NVDA+F" then type something like "download", this way you'll jump directly to the first occurrence of this word and with luck this will be the link you're after. In case it's not, simply repeat your search until you find it.

Are you attempting to use the outline view or the slide view?

When in slide view I tend to create new slides by using shift-f6 to
switch to the thumbnail.
Use up and down arrows to find the place I want to insert the new slide
Then use the context menu key and use the create new slide or
duplicate slide depending on whether I want a blank slide or to start
with the current slide.

Control+N makes a new Powerpoint file. To make a new slide, you'll have to do that from the ribbon. Alternatively, if you're using PowerPoint 2016 or higher, or Office 365, press Alt+Q, type in what you want to do, like "new slide", press down arrow, and you should hear what you want to do. Then, press enter to do it.

Hey guys, Molly here again.
