Re: not able to start NVDA using shortcut Ctrl + alt + space

Richard Wells

My hot key disappears each time I update NVDA. The reason for this is, I don't use the desktop shortcut and I also use a different hot key than the default. I prefer to assign the hot key ALT+CONTROL+V and I use the LNK found at C:\programdata\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\NVDA to do this. It would be nice if the NVDA install/update was smart enough to honor custom configurations like mine.

I don't know if you sorted it out as I haven't seen any answer from you regarding what others have said.
So here I go with my suggestion.
Even if it has been deleted, shortcut changed or whatever, it's easy peasy to go there on the shortcut properties (assuming it is still there) and set it up again, manually of course.
In case the shortcut itself have desappeared, go to the NVDA's  folder, usually \Program Files (X86)\NVDA and then recreate the shortcut from there.
This is assuming you have NVDA installed, not portable. Otherwise I don't think you'd be using this shortcut thing anyway.

Why are you down arrowing through the message?  Do you have to do so for some reason?  If you use read to end, no blank lines will be spoken.

Hi All,

I have two main problems with outlook 2016 – the 32bit version that you can download and install from office 365.

  1. I get blank line over and over when arrowing through messages. Is there a way to ignore / compress more than one blank line in a row?
  2. Often the outlook crashes and restarts. This only happens with NVDA. I have briefed several on this list before and have sent in logs etc. Does this crashing on certain messages happen to anyone else? If I view the message by either looking at it from a forward or a reply it doesn’t crash.

Thanks so much for any input.

Re: Reaching the comments' section on YouTube video

The reason you find the comments field by using headings from certain parts of the page and not others is probably because the page changes depending on where you are.  Some pages change what they show depending on where you are on the page.  The description sounds as though a Youtube video page does this.

I'm not sure how common this is but I have seen it on occasion.

I personally understood it as a "how to use NVDA with the youtube website"
question, otherwise the nvda-addons mention wouldn't have made sense.  But my
subjective opinion is irrelevant since I didn't start the thread.

> If i want to jump to a comment field, I might press h to get to the comments heading, and then tab twice to get to the appropriate edit box. There seems to

You might, but at least if you are using NVDA, with Firefox, on youtube.com,
there is perhaps an 80% chance that you will never reach comments that way.

Comments on youtube.com, seem to start with a heading level 2, which specifies
the number of comments.  But, whether the H key will actually jump you to that
heading, seems to depend on where you are on the page when you start trying to
look for it.

If you are, for example, in the related videos section, you can press H all you
like, and will probably never get to comments.  If you press 2, you will
likely be told that there are no more headings at level 2, even though we know,
that somewhere after those related videos, is a heading level 2 dealing with
comments.

The most reliable way I have found to get to youtube comments, is to press, from
whereever I happen to be on the page, control-end, to jump to the end of the
page.  Then shift-2, which should, most times that I know of, get you to the top
of the comments section.  You may then press e to go to the edit field where you
can type a comment, or use the down arrow or other navigation, to reach other
people's comments.

Lately, for me, it's been a hit and miss. And honestly, let me tell you,

Re: Reaching the comments' section on YouTube video

Actually this is marked by a heading, the problem is that you never know when said heading will show up.
One can keep going back and forth even for some minutes and sometimes it's not there at all.

@Nimer, sorry for not referencing NVDA on this topic. My bad, it won't happen again.
Just for clarification, I'm using NVDA when trying to reach this section and well, the other things I've already said. It's absolutely a "hit and miss".

Hi, I’ve seen this happen to me on this new windows ten computer.  NVDA’hotkey disappeared when I took its update.  I had to manually recreat the hot key.  I don’t know why that happens.  I never seen this on my older computer. Just with this one.

Hi

I copied this off my tutorial for logging out of face book this was the main website and i think is similar to the mobile version as well which is more like a web page.

Signing out of Facebook
After you have caught up with what is happening in your friends / family's worlds the final thing you will want to do is sign out of Facebook.
You will need to go to the top of the Facebook page with the Ctrl key + the Home key. You can either use the letter B for buttons in browse mode to jump down by buttons to the account settings button. You will need to push the space bar on the accounts button so NVDA can see the extra options to log out of Facebook.
There will be 9 options and the last one will be the logout menu. Arrow to the logout menu, then press the Enter key on it and you will be logged out of Facebook.

The tutorial for face book which i wrote can be found at http://accessibilitycentral.net/how%20to%20navigate%20Facebook%20with%20NVDA.html

It is off the nvda tutorials for other programs page.

I can not remember if there is a written one for mobile face book but maybe a audio one which also shows logging out.

Other than a reference to the add-ons list, I saw no reference to NVDA in this thread. This seems like an issue of navigating a particular website, and not an issue with NVDA, or learning to accomplish a task with NVDA that NVDA isn't working with or something.

If i want to jump to a comment field, I might press h to get to the comments heading, and then tab twice to get to the appropriate edit box. There seems to be an issue where the edit box is not recognized as such by NVDA, so pressing e won't jump there. had the question been referencing the edit box not being recognized by NVDA, or had the message referenced NVDA in pretty much any way, it would have been on topic.

thanks.

Will we be able to transfer those videos into youtube links though? I often download for off line listening so I don't think this site will work well.

Take care

Hi

I answered a similar request some weeks ago when I recommended a site designed for blind users which gives an ad free interface to search for and play YouTube videos.  The link is:

http://www.povidi.com/YourTube/

After opening the site, use the e key to jump to the search edit box, then  hit the spacebar to move into focus mode (unless you have auto mode switching set in NVDA).  Type in your search criteria, then pres tab to move to a combo box where you set the number of results per page.  Set this to 10, 20 or 50, then press tab again.  You landin another combo box where you can choose between videos, channels or playlists (I only ever use videos which is the default).  Tab again to the search button and press spacebar to run the search.

The results appear in a numbered list which you can access using the h key.  Press this repeatedly and when you find one you want to play, press tab to move focus to it and press enter.  A dialog box opens for the chosen video.  Again use the h key to jup to the different sections, which include player controls, pla details, video information and video comments. You can use the b key to jump to the various player control buttons.

After video has played, use alt+left arrow to return to the results list dialog at the point where you left it.

Cheers

Subject: [nvda] Reaching the comments' section on YouTube video

Hi guys,
Quite a while ago I posted here about the very same subject and at that time there was a workaround that really worked like a charm.
Trouble is, it doesn't seem to work anymore.

So, would any of you happen to know of a way to get to the comments' section on a YouTube video in a reliable manner?
Lately, for me, it's been a hit and miss. And honestly, let me tell you, it has been more of a miss than a hit. Really not fun to waste so much time with something that should be easy peasy, as I like to say.

I'm sending this one to the NVDA add-ons list as well, in case someone thinks it'd be a good idea to make an add-on to work with it and give it a solution once and for all.
Were I happen to have enough skills with it I could, should and would very well start such a project.

Cheers,
Marcio.
