Hi, is there a way to prevent NVDA from automatically reading an outlook message when you open it?  If so how?

Sarah & Brian--I don't know if this would be helpful or not--& from
your description, Brian, it sounds like not--but sometimes I have been
able to determine what buttons represent by using Win10 OCR. It's
always worth a try.

I remember playing with this site not long ago when you were asking about it

Just FYI, if I start using the b shortcut, it's the second button.  The

reads simply "button" is the account button.

NVDA goes silent with Outlook 365

Janet Brandly

Hello all,

I am using the latest version of NVDA with Windows 10. This is something IO have noticed with at least the last 2 versions of NVDA. When Outlook 365 is downloading messages, NVDA goes silent, even if I’m working in another window. Does anyone know how to fix this? Maybe I need to set Outlook to only download email messages when I tell it to?

Thanks,

Janet

what is the email address for sending to the NVDA chat?

Hello to all. I was trying to log onto http://simmarket.com and I cannot for the life of me find the button labeled as "account" that was there last week. I bought some stuff from there, and now cannot get it. This is crazy! Can someone please give me a hand, and no clapping please. lol! I'm using brave and edge, and both show the same thing. Using nvda 2020 what ever was released to the public a few days ago.

Take care to all, and have a happy Saturday.

The answer to that is yes, but not all that easily.  Getting into the details of why is not on-topic here.  If you want to discuss this further create a topic in the Chat Subgroup with a title along the lines of, "Using One Drive for storing system images," and I'll pick it up there.

Hello!

Is One Drive able to serve as a backup for restoring Windows so one does not have to install everything from scratch?

I have Microsoft 365, so backup space is not an issue.

So if I do a clean restore of Windows 10 I can get all my software back all at once instead of getting it back piece-by-piece.

    Thank You! For your response!

I applaud anyone who does.  But I also know that my personal concern, and that's whether a client is blind or sighted, is that they have a backup protocol in place and that they are able to take the backups independently on whatever cycle is dictated by their personal circumstances.   If they need to recover from within Windows, that's already accessible under most of the software out there, and if they need to do a disaster recovery, it's generally not.  Having to hire someone to come in and actually do a disaster recovery is cheap, very cheap, compared to losing years worth of work and data, and way, way cheaper than engaging professional data recovery services on a failed drive.

I am far more concerned that the average user, blind or sighted, is taking backups so they're available for recovery, than I am about their ability to do the recovery independently.  God willing, they'll never need to use the backup, but if they don't have it to use and they have a catastrophic failure, then they are well and truly up the proverbial creek, in whitewater flooding stage, sans paddle.

This is not and would never be an NVDA function, but a function of Windows.

And it's amazing how easy this answer is to find via a web search.  Start here: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/138736-move-open-app-one-virtual-desktop-another-windows-10-a.html

Then, if that's not enough, start cruising through the results from, https://duckduckgo.com/?q=move+running+app+between+virtual+desktops+Windows+10, yourself.

This topic is now locked.  It belongs on the Windows 10 for Screen Reader Users group, but it's not at all related to NVDA or any other screen reader.

Hello,

As far as I can tell, virtual desktops in windows are not that convenient, and being windows-10 specific and not really related to accessibility, there is no reason for nvda to do it either.
There is probably a third-party software or more that allows it available on the internet, though.

Hello.
Is there a keyboard shortcut to do this? either with nvda or windows 10?
In linux you can set this up, i think the default is shift ctrl alt with left or right arrow keys. Pressing this combination would move whatever app you were on left or right one workspace.
I loved this feature on linux and would like to see something similar on windows.
Thanks.

Or make a portable copy on the c drive or any other drive and then simply copy or cut and paste it wherever you want.  That's one of the main points of portable versions of programs.  You can place them anywhere and it doesn't matter what drive they were created on.

You still may not have room on the f drive to place the portable copy after it is created but you will have the portable copy made and ready to place anywhere.
