Good evening list; first using the latest edition of nvda and windows 10.  I cannot get weather plus 5.5 to download.  When I try to download it, I am taken back to the desktop.  Where can I get it and download/install it manually.  Looked on the addons website and could not find it.  Any help with this would be appreciated. I am sorry I forgot to mention that I use windows 1 core voice as my synth. I am inserting Hindi language words, e.g. the word chhota, which NVDA pronounces like kh when I wish it pronounces like ch.

I am presuming you are talking about non-English words inserted into English language text.  That can be done, but is generally fiddly until you figure out how to come up with something that's a pronounceable substitute for the word that sounds right with the synthesizer you're using.  I am guessing we're talking about words from non-romance-languages.

A short list of examples, and knowing what synthesizer you're using, would be most helpful.

This is not really an NVDA question - it's more of a synthesiser question, so
please tell us which synth you use (and perhaps which other synths you feel
happy with) so people might be able to advise how to do what you want.

It might also be helpful to mention which non-English language/s you wish to
adjust the pronunciation of.

Unfortunately for this month, the key has exceeded the available calls:

The key is in %appdata%\nvda\key.key...

It will be active again from the first day of next month.

Re: accessible sound design, lesson 2.

This topic, also, while interesting, does not fit on the NVDA main group.  I would ask that any follow-up be moved to the NVDA Chat Subgroup.

Not that this is not a worthwhile effort, but a discussion such as this one really belongs either on the NVDA Chat Subgroup or elsewhere.

If there is to be any follow-up in relation to this topic, please conduct it on the Chat Subgroup.

tables in nvda

Hi.

For ages and ages I have had tables read like this.

Contents of table, on column and row.

Now its the other way round.

Thats fine, except when say viewing an ftp index via the web or a directory in web view of say waterfox.

Simply I get column and row spoken before the item which simply slows me down waiting for that stuff.

Right now I have turned off tables because I don't need them but if I need them for something I will have to continuously turn them off and on.

Any way to control how tables are read or to exclude say ftp site indexes being read with tables.

In fact maybe have tables only read for documents and if we want it in a spaciffic site or exclude certain sites from having their tables read or something?

Its the latest 19x series releases where I have noticed this.

Its not a showstopping issue, I can get by without the table, I mean in this situation its not a big issue.

When viewing my resilio folder structure its usefull but I can't turn things ond and off all day long.

locked OT: A program to make BARD files Braille-display friendly

John J. Boyer

Hello,

I have developed a program which makes books from the BARD website of the National Library Service braille-display
friendly. It does the following:

Combines all volumes into one file;
Converts upper-case to lower-case;
Eliminates extra blanks at the ends of lines;
Skips more than 1 blank line.

The resulting files are NOT suitable for embossing.

This application was developed on Linux. The conversion program is written in C, so it should work oo Windows once it
is recompiled. The
command line for it uses the Linux cat
command or type on Windows. I have a zip file with the program and instructioons which I can send to you privately.

Re: problem with remote add-on

Mobeen Iqbal

Hi.

You need to install the add-on manually from www.nvdaremote.com and overwrite the current one. The cause is NVDA's compatibility check.

cheers,

Mo.

Re: duck mode?

For clarification, by going to communications tab, if you don't want it to do anything, then you should check this option.
This tab, like NVDA, has three options, which has the form of radio buttons.
Maybe you could understand it when you get there, but just in case :)

Curtis,
This command can be used to set NVDA up with 3 modes. Did you try the three of them?
Also, if it doesn't solve your problem, I have a feeling that it's not related to NVDA, rather to the reduce other volumes, which is a thing of Windows itself.
You can adjust it by going to sound and communications tab.
