This issue exists on more than one internet provider. In Iran, we have a governmental organization, called "Working Group on Identifying Criminal Content", who is responsible for such actions. I asked them to unblock nvaccess.org, and they told me the above-mentioned reply.

Re: logging into telegram with nvda?

Yes. I have tried it on safari on the mac and chrome for the mac. Both work beautifully. I can't recall if I said I tried it on chrome to on windows but if I didn't, I did. I want to use firefox as that is my default browser. Iv'e nixed edge, at least until the new one comes out for public use.

On chrome and firefox produce the same results. I enter phone number, click next, try to hit ok to receive the prompt in my telegram to enter the code, then it will just work after that. I can't click the ok, not even punch it with the mouse button, or nvda's left click, or even narrator.

I'm BCcing this to the nvda chat group just in case but here are the
steps I'm taking

1. Launch chrome. I have the same trouble with Firefox
2. Go to web.telegram.org
3. Put your phone number in.
4. click next
5. Try to click the "OK button. I cannot do this, yet other people I
know have done this successfully. I've tried
* 1 object navigation
* 2 screen review
* 3 document review
* 4 routing and left clicking with the result that nvda says "there is
no object here" or "object has no location"
* 5. Left clicking with the mouse after trying to rout
* 6. Trying to use narrator with the result that that dialogue never
reads.

So does anyone have any tips here? I cannot do a video as my phone
number will be revealed and I don't want that.

Thanks.
Blessings and happy Sunday

I hope that Clarissa reports back on what has transpired since her original message arrived at some point.

Hi everyone,

We've released NVDA 2019.1.1.

This release addresses some issues including a crash and formulas not
reporting in Excel2007, a crash in Google Chrome, and an issue when copying
settings to secure screens.

Read the full notes and download from:
https://www.nvaccess.org/post/nvda-2019-1-1-update-available-for-download/

If check for updates is enabled, NVDA itself should find the update in the
next day or so and offer it to you.

Kind regards

Quentin

Re: Issues With Foxit Reader

Bhavya shah

Dear all,

Update: I jumped the gun in my critique of Foxit Reader.

* I have been able to explore Foxit's ribbon menus by treating them as
a ribbon and not a typical menu bar.
* Although non-ideal, I am able to move to the next page by pressing
Alt+V, G, N.
* I am able to use Foxit's Find dialog too. Nothing special, but just noting.
* This means that I am able to read my 470+ page Physics textbook PDF
file after choosing Read the currently visible pages only and thus not
overwhelming the poor application with the load of several hundreds of
pages at one go but rather probably asking it to render more as I
navigate to a new page.

In case there is other interesting stuff relating to Foxit that I may
be unaware of or have not yet discovered, please do share.

Thanks.

Inscentivized by the assurance that NVDA now had support for Foxit, I
downloaded and installed the same. I would like to share my experience
with this program so far as it has been full of troubles:
* Aftr installing Foxit, Foxit Reader had opened as an application
without any PDF file to actually display. In that window, navigating
around or even going through the menu bar or options in the ribbon was
an extremely laggy and unresponsive exercise. I barely managed to
click on a Register Now link in the window and explored some options
in some ribbon menus using NVDA's object navigation.
* I opened a 2 page PDF file containing interactive form controls
(check boxes and edit boxes and what not) using Foxit, clicked on
Infer reading order from document and View entire document from the
dialog it always shows (akin to Adobe Acrobat) on detection of the
running of a screen reader. Whilst reading this document, NVDA really
started exhibiting conspicuous multi-second freezes when the check box
came on one line, followed by its label on the next line, leading to a
rather unpleasant and unclean reading experience.
* My end goal behind trying out Foxit is my impression that it is
relatively lightweight and snappier than Adobe Acrobat in loading and
rendering large PDF documents. I need to access a 470+ page PDF file
(of a Physics textbook) loading which in Adobe Acrobat and Word 2016
just causes both to choke up. How did it go with Foxit?
1 When I chose Read the entire document, Foxit stopped responding and
froze NVDA too, compelling me to restart NVDA, and close Foxit
altogether.
2 When I chose Read currently visible pages only, the document did
open up. However, Page 1 seems to have no content. I tried arrowing
around and pressing PgUp and PgDn to move to another page but the
first, as well as pressed Ctrl+Shift+N (which the Internet tells me
apparently should open up the Go To Page dialog in Foxit) but all to
no avail, meaning that none of these keystrokes produced any effect at
all.

My initial impressions and experiences, as one may infer from the
above narrative, has not been particularly positive. In case there are
any settings I need to change, functionalities I need to keep in mind,
or anything that I am doing blatantly wrong, kindly let me know so
that I can improve my PDF viewing experience with Foxit.

I would greatly appreciate any inputs, suggestions or assistance.

Thanks.

I doubt that the NVDA site has been blocked.  it is probably on a host, but I'm not sure what the correct word is, that has been blocked so nothing on that host can be accessed.  for example, a lot of people use Go Daddy to host sites.  If Go Daddy were blocked, you couldn't access The NVDA site.  Others with more technical knowledge can tell the list how you find out who hosts a web site and we may get information about who the host is for the NVDA site.

Dear Antony,
This issue exists on more than one internet provider. In Iran, we have a governmental organization, called "Working Group on Identifying Criminal Content", who is responsible for such actions. I asked them to unblock nvaccess.org, and they told me the above-mentioned reply.

Not much in the archives but here's a thread that might help. And another thread that might help as well. There are a lot of searches in the archives re office 2016 but most are with 365 so I don't know if those are the same. Here is the search page

I don't use office on a windows machine although I know how a little bit.

Take care

Hi All,

Is there anyone using MS Office 2016 Professional?

I just made the switch from MS Office 2013 Professional to MS Office 2016 Professional.  I am finding it a bit different to set up so that it works smoothly with NVDA.  I would appreciate talking to someone to compare notes on the accessibility of NVDA and MS Office 2016 and the best way to set it up.

Thanks

Sorry about that Brian.  It is Outlook I am referring to.

Thanks

Pascal,

It will be helpful if you can get specific about which Office program (or programs) you're having issues with, as there are a few things that may apply to all of them, but most will be specific to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

As Sarah has mentioned, there is actually a lot of material on the group archive regarding all of the various Office programs and NVDA.  Office 365 is directly based on Office 2016, so at the individual program controls level the two should be virtually identical.

If you wish to search the archive, located at https://nvda.groups.io/g/nvda/topics, there is a Search button at the very top of the page.  There are two important notes about doing searches on Groups.io (probably more, but these are the biggies):  If you are looking for something like Word 2016 make sure to enter it within quotes, otherwise you'll get every message that has either the word "word" or 2016, rather than someone mentioning "Word 2016".  The search results are also initially returned at the individual message level, which isn't particularly helpful, at least to me,others prefer it.  I far prefer to see topics.  To make that happen, activate the "Tools" button, check the "collapse topics" checkbox and, voila, the search results are now shown as topics.

One thing I've written up with regard to using Office that many seem to find useful is:  Adjusting Protected View Settings in MS-Office Programs
I cannot stand having these on by default and have disabled them in every Office program so that I'm not being endlessly nagged.  And those warnings are even more annoying when using a screen reader.  I only open attachments produced using MS-Office from sources I know I can trust, so I do not need nor want protected view.   This little reference document I threw together might prove helpful, too:

It contains a list of direct links to the Microsoft webpages with the keyboard shortcuts for each one of the major Office suite programs, which covers all the recent versions.
