This may be my answer (19.1.1) rather than going back to earlier versions.

(See my question, probably posted later.)

NVDA With Excel

Howard Traxler <howard@...>

Hello folks,

Using Windows 10 pro 64, NVDA 19.1, MS Office 2003/Excel.

I'm having trouble running Excel with NVDA.  With NVDA running, Excel will only flash and stop; reverting to the previous screen. If Excel is already running, NVDA will not start.  Excel runs properly with JAWS demo; runs, but not usably with Narrator.

I have used this combination (NVDA and Excel) successfully for many months.  Perhaps I should go back to an earlier version of NVDA.  See my note (below) posted on another list.

Anybody, thanks for ideas.

Howard

Trying different screen readers:
1. With NVDA, I get the results I described in my message above.
2.  With Narrator, Pressing enter on the desktop shortcut, I get two or three clicks and revert to the previously running application.  Pressing the spacebar will start Excel, but no useful information is read.
3. With JAWS (40 minute demo), Excel comes up and allows normal functioning: data entry, reading cells, opening and saving file.

It appears to me that this is caused by an interaction with the screen readers.

I probably could get done what I need to in less than forty minutes but it sure is inconvenient.  Maybe something to ask the NVAccess folks.

Under UK law, no VAT is charged on biscuits and cakes - they are "zero rated".
Chocolate covered biscuits, however, are classed as "luxury items" and are
subject to VAT. McVitie's classed its Jaffa Cakes as cakes, but in 1991 this
was challenged by Her Majesty's Customs and Excise in court.

The question which had to be answered was what criteria should be used to
class something as a cake or a biscuit. McVitie's defended the classification
of Jaffa Cakes as a cake by arguing that cakes go hard when stale, whereas
biscuits go soft. It was demonstrated that Jaffa Cakes become hard when stale
and McVitie's won the case.

Help: Using Newest Version of NVDA and Excel 2007 crashing

Steve Hoad

Hello: Is it possible that the latest version of NVDA doesn't play
well with Excel 2007? I have been using Windows 10 with these
programs successfully in a previous version of NVDA but now, when I
open Excel it crashes almost immediately.
As an alternative, can I easily roll back to NVDA in a 2018 version
that Excel worked well with?

Any help or information would be appreciated. Thanks,

Yes. I have tried it on safari on the mac and chrome for the mac. Both work beautifully. I can't recall if I said I tried it on chrome to on windows but if I didn't, I did. I want to use firefox as that is my default browser. Iv'e nixed edge, at least until the new one comes out for public use.

On chrome and firefox produce the same results. I enter phone number, click next, try to hit ok to receive the prompt in my telegram to enter the code, then it will just work after that. I can't click the ok, not even punch it with the mouse button, or nvda's left click, or even narrator.

I'm BCcing this to the nvda chat group just in case but here are the
steps I'm taking

1. Launch chrome. I have the same trouble with Firefox
2. Go to web.telegram.org
3. Put your phone number in.
4. click next
5. Try to click the "OK button. I cannot do this, yet other people I
know have done this successfully. I've tried
* 1 object navigation
* 2 screen review
* 3 document review
* 4 routing and left clicking with the result that nvda says "there is
no object here" or "object has no location"
* 5. Left clicking with the mouse after trying to rout
* 6. Trying to use narrator with the result that that dialogue never
reads.

So does anyone have any tips here? I cannot do a video as my phone
number will be revealed and I don't want that.

Thanks.
