I don't think more modern clients skip the subject line.  I start reading the message before the subject line is spoken or fully spoken in a lot of  In cases where something is unclear, such as the version of a program being used, I check the subject line. I also do so if someone uses the subject line to present material that is necessary to understand the rest of the message in other ways.  But since subject lines are so often irrelevant such as a question, help, etc. meaningless phrases that tell us nothing about the subject of the message, what it is about, I usually skip them.  Also, subject lines often stay the same while a thread drifts into other areas, often related in some way but not what the subject line indicates.  So they are often meaningless or misleading.  I also do this because I read all or part of just about every message.

have no objection to fixing it, would it only correct a problem in that
program and do enough people use it to justify spending NVDA resources on
repairing the problem?

In Windows Live Mail, I don't know about recent versions of NVDA, but when
composing messages, the cursor didn't move at all properly when reviewing a
message using read to end. If that is the same problem, it might be more
worth looking at since a fair number of people still use that program.

Re: Add-on Updater 19.02 (mandatory update), Windows 10 App Essentials and SPL Studio add-ons retires standalone update facility as of today

Hi Jeff,

Ah yes, I should have clarified my original statement to say that it applies to long time NVDA users… Sorry about that.

For a number of years some NVDA add-ons shipped with ability to update themselves on the fly (check, download, and install updated versions of themselves). This began with StationPlaylist Studio add-on in 2016 and Windows 10 App Essentials in 2017. This in turn was inspired by a project I’m working on that’ll let NVDA itself check for add-on updates (placed on hold due to more important add-on management work under consideration by developers).

In 2018, I introduced Add-on Updater, an add-on that lives up to its name: check for, download, and install updated versions of NVDA add-ons, including itself. My chief aim was to give the NVDA user community a chance to test drive the project I mentioned above, and incorporate community feedback as I work on this project. In reality, Add-on Updater is really a more generic implementation of add-on update check facility from StationPlaylist Studio and Windows 10 App Essentials (mostly the one that came with Windows 10 App Essentials was used, since it has more user impact than StationPlaylist Studio add-on).

Then comes changes to NVDA in late 2018 that affected any add-on that performs update checks. While “teaching” (modifying) Add-on Updater to deal with changes in NVDA, I realized that it would be burdensome to maintain the same code in StationPlaylist Studio and Windows 10 App Essentials, so I announced that standalone update check facility from the latter two add-ons will be phased out in 2019. As of today, it is done – all add-on checks are done by Add-on Updater (there are two add-ons (not mine) that still comes with their own way of checking for updates; the first one (Braille Extender) may see huge changes in the future as discussion is under way to bring features from that add-on to NVDA; the second one (WeatherPlus) isn’t working at this time because a crucial component the add-on relies on went south a while ago).

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Joseph

I’m calling it “mandatory” because for most add-ons, you need to use Add-on Updater to update add-ons on the fly.

  • Current development snapshots of StationPlaylist Studio add-on supports ability to reload or reset add-on settings by pressing Control+NVDA+R once or three times, respectively. This work will show up in March for people using stable and long-term channels.
  • Thanks to recent NVDA alpha snapshots, Action Center and time picker workarounds that shipped with Windows 10 App Essentials for a number of years is now part of NVDA itself. Notably, item status for various quick actions in Action Center (including brightness value) will be announced, as well as better support for time pickers such as alarm configuration in Alarms and Clock app.

Re: Add-on Updater 19.02 (mandatory update), Windows 10 App Essentials and SPL Studio add-ons retires standalone update facility as of today

Hi,

In english, this simply means that windows 10 app essentials and station playlist updates will now be controlled by the add on updater add on. Before, they had  their own version of the updater that was separate from this.

Hope that clears things up for you.

You can add graphics, NVDA will tell you the X/Y coordinates and if
the image overlaps another object: this is very cool.

Tables are usable, but the row/column navigation I am used to from the

many "tabs" I have used to keep track of which column I am editing.

So, I would say it is usable; much better than 3 years ago.

Oh, I didn't see the subject. My bad for doing it again.
Well, probably it's not reporting anything because such information would be available only in texts writen in Word and programs like this, perhaps.

More evidence supporting my contention that document review should automatically be switched to when you leav the window where you invoke it.

I wonder how many people have had this problem but aren't members of the list and never know why.

Switch to document review--NVDA + numpad 1. I get that error when I'm
in screen review--NVDA + numpad7.

you can always use google and search for "chrome offline version latest" or adobe editions offline version latest, or something similar. that's what I do.

It depends. Often these days software only downloads a stub, so installing
will not work unless you give it internet access. Chrome does this as do
many pieces of software. It seems that the stub looks at your machine and
can then intelligently get the files appropriate to your software and
hardware environment.
In these cases there is no way once install starts to get it to stop
without cancelling the whole install.

I notice for example if I download a stub of a piece of software say on one
machine then run that on another, and that happens to be an xp machine it
will almost immediately either say it won't run or download a specific
version for the XP environment.

Hi,
Just to let you know, when installing adobe digital editions, to make

Norton does not get installed, OCR the Norton screen and put your cursor

editions and no Norton!

It is possible. You must press control+alt+<-- or -- (left or right arrows) while the song is playing.>

I don’t think you can fast forward or rewind in iTunes

Only skip back and next tracks

If there is a way to scan through a track in iTunes then I would like to know it too

Subject: [nvda] Rewind and fast forward tracks in itunes

Hello,

I am using the latest version of nvda on my windows 10 64 bit laptop.

When using itunes, I am not able to rewind and fast forward tracks

using the keystrokes Control plus alt plus left/right arrow keys.

Could anyone help me resolve this issue?

Best,

Manoj
