Re: NVDA and Edge Chromium

At this point I doubt I'm the only one who is completely lost about what issue(s) are being experienced and how to trigger them.

May I suggest that those still experiencing issues report:
1.  The browser, including version number for same
2.  Describe the issue.
3.  Give the steps one must do to trigger it?

There's been a lot of water flowing under this proverbial bridge.

There is a new update to Edge, evidently released very recently.  Mine is updating now.  This update may solve the problem being discussed.  I’m going to test it after the update finishes.

As far as finding the about information, do the following:
Open the menu with alt f.  Hold alt when typing f.
Up arrow to help and support and press enter.
Up arrow to about Chrome and press enter.
You can look at the page as you would a web page.  Start arrowing down and you will soon get to version information.  If Chrome is up-to-date, you will find that stated in that area.

Chrome and all Chrome-based browsers do but you should check that it is up-to-date before testing.  While updates should be automatic, that doesn’t guarantee something didn’t go wrong.

I can tell you how to check if you wish, but I’d have to check.  There are differences between Chrome-based browsers.

Edge automatically updates itself but if you haven’t used it in some time, you should open it and let it sit for a few minutes.  Then use the about dialog to see if it is running the current version.  Since the complained of problem occurred after an update, your results wouldn’t match the test criteria unless the program is known to be current.

Re: Sending New Email in Desktop Outlook 2019: How to select correct email address when contact has multiple[le addresses?

There was a bug that crept in to Outlook 365 the day before yesterday that caused all sorts of "odd errors" and it wasn't consistent as far as who was hit with what on their individual machines.

It's the perfect example of the rare actual bug where even the actual issues it triggers are idiosyncratic to the individual Windows/Office (probably more the latter) instances once installed.

See article:

Microsoft Outlook bug prevents viewing or creating email worldwide

patches are supposed to have been rolling out already, but like all updates, they'll be released in waves and telemetry monitored to make sure they aren't causing other issues, since there's no way that Microsoft or any other software maker can have a testing setup for every possible hardware configuration that exists "in the wild."

Re: NVDA and APA Style

Hi,

I usually don’t worry about citation styles until before submitting papers – I just type in-line citations (author, year) as I write papers, and then I go back and reformat it to resemble whatever style the instructor wants as I’m finishing my paper (I also take care of spelling and grammar at that time, too).

Cheers,

Joseph

I didn’t know about the APA checker software, but I think  the professors wouldn’t have wanted us to use it anyway.  When I had to write psychology papers about 15 years ago, I proofed them using the JAWS “Check formatting” command.  I didn’t know about NVDA at the time, and I think it might have been developed around the time I graduated.  The university library had an online reference guide for the most common citation styles, but I don’t know if it still exists.

Re: Sending New Email in Desktop Outlook 2019: How to select correct email address when contact has multiple[le addresses?

If you don’t get a good solution, There should be another way to search for contacts besides autocomplete.  Windows Live Mail has another way and if it does, it is very likely Outlook does as well.  Ihn Wihndows Live Mail, using the search contacts function, I just type as muchor as little as I want of what I’m searching for in the search field, then down arrow to see results.  I usually type the first name of the person, when searching for a person.

I don’t use Outlook and I’ll let others discuss the search, which I expect exists, further.

Hello everyone I have been using Gmail with standard view now for more than 5 years, pretty much since I started working in nonprofit in 2014. So I guess that makes it longer. I think standard view works much better than basic HTML, but I have been tricked by the fact that when you go into a new inbox key commands are not automatically activated. Nimer great tips.

If you have had Gmail for very long, you probably have more than 10,000 messages in your inbox, and would probably never want to jump all the way to the end. But those were great tips for jumping to the end of the current view. Another one I just discovered is to press g then n or g then p  to view older or newer messages. I would encourage everyone to also take a look at the search feature. Press / and it automatically takes you to the edit bar. Press tab a couple times and enter on the advanced search button. I use this frequently.

I'm using latest NVDA with latest Google Chrome on Windows 10.

Hi.  I find it easier to navigate the gmail interface with “Basic HTML view” vs. “Standard view”.  This is probably due to the fact that when I was first taught how to set up and work with my gmail account, I was instructed to use “Basic HTML view” in order to get the most accessible interface. I know this is not strictly related to NVDA though.

You actually can remove Windows components and add Windows components using PowerShell.  There are lots of tutorials out there about how to remove and reinstall the Edge browser.

I'd still just consider, Doing a Windows 10 Repair Install or Feature Update Using the Windows 10 ISO file, which is easier and kills multiple potential issues with one fell swoop.

We're all in agreement that this is an issue with Windows rather than NVDA itself.
