Re: Braille Me add-on not working

Christo de Klerk

You need to upgrade your firmware. Version 2.32 had a problem working with NVDA. I am writing this e-mail using a BrailleMe with version 2.34 of the firmware and NVDA. I have just tried a machine with version 2.32 and can confirm that it does not work. I recommend you ask your vendor or Innovision to let you have a newer firmware version.

Kind regards

I’m considering going back to factory reset and trying a reinstall of the firmware for the Braille Me. When it worked, it was beyond awesome with NVDA.

StationPlaylist Studio add-on 19.04.1 bug fix release #addonrelease

Hi all,

SPL Studio add-on 19.04.1 is now available. This version resolves several issues with newly redesigned column announcement and playlist transcripts panels in SPL add-on settings (the most severe being NVDA losing custom column inclusion and order for track items after closing the add-on settings).

Cheers,

Off course, but many people dont know it.
Personally, I do not like synts  that try to imitate real voices, because in most cases the pronunciation is horrible when you set high rates, but one core's voices are not bad at all and they are really responsible.

Well it detects windows 10 somehow and makes the default 1 core. It may be possible to tinker with this somewhere but in the end if you want the new voice on  those secure  screens the  settings have to be saved and copied to the user area at boot up etc. I can see no other way if its going to  be the same voice .

Re: Microsoft office 2016 with nvda

Rick

Hello Farhan:

I am not sure why you think you should be able to get Microsoft Office training materials with NVDA for free. Significant work is required to create and maintain training materials, especially when you consider the ever-changing feature set of NVDA and Office and that many people are using different versions of each. If sighted people want training materials to assist them in using office products (via books, webinard, classes, etc.) they pay for those services. I would expect that the blind community would do the same. As Quentin pointed out, there are several tutorials available from NVDA on Office product, specifically tailored to NVDA, that can be purchased for a nominal amount. These tutorials start with the basics but also cover advanced topics.

If you want free, search the web. Searching the web, Microsoft also has some web pages devoted to providing assistance to using Office products with a screen reader. While these are not NVDA specific, many of the examples use Office built-in keyboard shortcuts not specific to a particular screen reader, so that they can be used with NVDA.

https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Use-a-screen-reader-and-keyboard-shortcuts-with-Office-apps-4aba5a56-f80c-4a6b-a584-d0f415471617

One of the best ways to learn to use the Office products is to play and experiment. The key is to know how to use the ribbon. Gene and others have posted numerous tutorials on how to use the ribbon. Using the ribbon effectively is key, since it also appears in other Microsoft products, like Windows Explorer. NVDA speaks keyboard shortcuts as you navigate the ribbon, so for commands you perform regularly, you can learn these shortcuts and become more proficient. Also, learning Office shortcuts rather than scree reader specific shortcuts means you can use multiple screen readers effectively.

Yet, I found the following problems:
lots of unlabeled buttons durring installing and within the set up window
login screen unable to progress as tabbing with NVDA cannot found the text field to input id and password.
I cannot go further cause I cannot even complete sign in progress with NVDA.
Are there anyone else do experience the same problem?

Hi,

Bible Seeker is a very accessible program and works with NVDA.  It comes with several Bible versions and the Matthew Henry Commentary.  You can Google it.  If you cannot find it, let me know and I will email you the file.

Blessings

Pascal

Dear All,

I asked this question a number of years ago and am now checking if there is any update. Does anyone know of a Bible program that is truly accessible?

Warmly,

Ralph

NVDA does not seem to recognize the new commenting feature in Excel

Rick

Recently, Microsoft has changed the commenting feature in Excel. The old commenting feature is now called notes and the new feature is called comments. The new comments feature allows for threaded comments. It does not appear that NVDA recognizes these new comments. If there is a cell with a note, NVDA announces that a comment is present. If there is a cell with a new type of comment, NVDA does not identify that a comment is present. When viewing the elements dialog, NVDA only reports notes and not the new comments.

The following link describes this new feature compared to the old way of commenting.

I understand that NVDA will need to catch up to this new feature. Is there a timeline?

Thanks, rick

Gene,
I do know it may not matter, it's just that I myself like to have things organized, you know, I guess this is a matter of habit.
Anyway, I started learning about this bookmarks structure today and it seems way easier than I thought it'd be.
By the way, if you want to learn about it as well, I can provide the links for the articles :)

It may not matter.  I never organize book marks.  I use the book marks search to find something if it isn't very conveniently located in the list.

Ollie,
Have mercy on me! LOL
I know how to bookmark a page. Trouble is, I don't know how to manipulate bookmarks.
Like, organize them on specific folders and things like that.

Ollie,
Actually, as I'm not that good with bookmarks, I did another thing.
I created an URL shortcut for it.
You know? It's been a while since I hadn't messing with this "old but gold" option, I even had forgotten that something like this would exist! LOL

No idea, Marcio. I bookmarked years ago, when the development versions were still called "Snapshots"...

Bookmark it; it's your best bet.

Ollie,
Thanks 😊
This is the link I found when I googled for "nvda alpha".
Would you know whether one can access this same link just by going to the NVDA's webpage?
In other words, if I go to http://nvaccess.org, is there a section so I can click to go direct to this link?

Thanks again :)

P.S.: Looking through Google results, I found the link to the page for the Alpha and Beta versions.
I just wanted to know, by accessing http://nvda-project.org, where one should go to get access to this same page I just found googling for "NVDA Alpha". Is there a way?

Hello guys,
It's been a while since I became an NVDA Alpha user.
Today, though, I decided I'll go back to NVDA Stable channel.
So, my question is: if I want to become an Alpha again, or even a Beta, where can I choose between these options?
Thanks :)
