Yes,    I can confirm that.  I tried to get into my food safe online class. I could not get at the class so I can study for the final exam. I called the head guy to say I can only see the exam. He said to clean my Chrome history. I did and finding out I may get another extension until May. Is there a way where you can clean the history on Chrome like you can with IE? When you leave IE. You can set the history to leave as you close it.  How can one set Chrome to clean history? Then you don’t have to go to the history to manually clean it. I did today. Lucky I don’t use much on chrome. Just my news global channel and the food safe class.  If I want to do other things I go to IE Cause I have IE to clean the history automatically.  I wonder if you can do the same with Chrome?

Did it just happen once?  If so, I wouldn't worry about it.  it sounds like something crashed in Windows such as File Explorer.  I'm very doubtful that this has anything to do with NVDA.  I can get pretty much stuck as you did if I terminate what is called file Explorer in
Windows 10.  Its called Windows Explorer in other versions.  If it crashes, you can't do much of anything.

If you're reading this still using NVDA for the FIRST time after that happened, you should have an nvda-old.log in your %temp% directory.  That is the log from the previous time NVDA ran.  If you could send me that log to info@..., I can have a look and see if there is anything telling in there.

one more case that proves my contention that NVdA should automatically revert to object navigation when you leave the window you are using something different in.  Who knows how many problems how many people have because they don't know that a lot of things won't work properly unless you are in object navigation mode.

Re: Outlook (Office 365) not reading message list in NVDA 2019.1

Quentin Christensen

Hi Corbb,

When you say Outlook isn't reading anything other than the subject and date information, what other information was it reading previously?

It could be that the view has changed in Outlook.  Alt+v, c, v takes you to change view where you can set compact, single or preview, or manage views to more precisely edit what is displayed.

Re the NVDA menu, can you confirm that the menu is appearing?  Is NVDA reading anything at all when you try to arrow through it?  It seems to be reading fine for me when I call it up when using Outlook.

If you can replicate and send me a log, I'll have a look and see if there's anything.

Other things to try, previous versions of NVDA to confirm whether it is a new issue with 2019.1 and restarting NVDA with add-ons disabled are the two things I can think of to try.

Regards

Quentin.

Furthermore, pressing CapsLock+N while inside Outlook won't read any of the menu options. If I don't open Outlok, though, I'm able to read the NVDA menu.

I've been using NVDA for quite awhile but haven't come across a bug worthy of submitting before, so I'd appreciate any direction that you can provide.

Re: Odd behavior with Contact Group member list in Outlook 2016

Quentin Christensen

Not really an update, but I can confirm this issue with Office 365.  I have also previously reported it to Microsoft, and I can confirm that Narrator behaves exactly the same as NVDA in this case.

From my comment just now on the issue:

Several very imperfect workarounds in the interim:

  • Use next / previous object commands to have NVDA read the list. The command will report "selected" for the currently selected contact. As the focus is not correctly following to begin with, using object navigation here always behaves as if "focus moves navigator object" is off.

  • After using the arrow to move through the list, press ALT twice to move to the ribbon and back. The problem is the focus does NOT return to the list, it goes back to the list name, so you need to press TAB to then move back to the list, but then the last item with focus is reported.

Hi Jenine,

When you say you are setting the column header with NVDA+control+c and nothing happens, do you mean NVDA reads nothing when you press NVDA+control+c to set the header, or it's not reading the header as you navigate around your spreadsheet?

When you press NVDA+control+c, NVDA should report: "Set A1 as start of column headers" (where I had the focus in A1 when I pressed the command).  If that isn't being read, is the focus on a cell in Excel AND you are not editing the cell?  If you have started typing something in the cell or pressed F2 to edit it, Excel will be in edit mode and you won't be able to set the header until you finish (enter) or cancel (escape) editing that cell.

If it's not reporting headers as you navigate, then press NVDA+control+d to open NVDA's document formatting settings, and be sure that "Row / Column headers" is checked (press alt+e until the focus jumps to that option).

Kind regards

Quentin.

Depending on the style of bullets, it may be that the symbol level is set lower (or higher) on some machines.  You can change it in the speech settings with NVDA+control+v, or you can change it on the fly at anytime with NVDA+p.
