Re: itunes latest issue

Hmmm safari is not usable on windows but I havn't bothered with it.

Itunes up to 12.8 has been mostly usable, it does appear the new windows app and now desktop client according to narator at least will read themselves fine, so with nvda though maybe the interaction is different, I wouldn't know, its always been a bit clunky, an overblown webpage, but I am getting used to it, its almost like a brouser window and its not like everything never read, in fact in this new version just about everything from the dialogs, to options to menus work as expected, the about dialog, and the main window doesn't read in nvda.

But yeah look at icloud, the main panel works but a lot of it doesn't, but on the apple devices stuff probably works fine.

Conciddering of course the history that itunes was never a windows port till version 4.1 anyway.

Hi,

Not overly helpful I admit but, having just updated to 12.9, I am getting this problem, too. However, on this rare occasion, I think Apple may well be right about it being an NVDA issue since I seem to still have the same access to iTunes with JAWS as I've always had after a cursory look. However, I do still absolutely loathe iTunes and wish I could find a better way of transferring material to my phone!

I guess I need to qualify "doesn't work" with "presuming you do not already have a Webvisum account."

Those who established one ages ago report being able to use the latest signed version of the add-on up through Firefox 52.

When I hear, "Does Webvisum work?," it has the implied proviso, "if I want to start using it now," and in that case the answer is no. I haven't known of anyone being able to get an invitation generated for ages. And it definitely is abandonware at this juncture. I fully expect that one day, when it's least expected, it will finally break for existing users.

But those for whom it's still working should ride that proverbial horse until it drops from under them.

Rumola still seems to work under Chrome.

The problem with older versions of FF is that no security updates are now being made.

Hi Paul,

Press WINDOWS+. or WINDOWS+; to open the emoji panel, then either right
arrow through the items in the current section, press tab to move to the
sections and arrows to choose a new section, or start typing to search for
emoji, eg "cake" 🍰, "Smiling" ☺or "firetruck" 🚒 (as with many other
search fields, you don't necessarily have to type the full thing - I typed
"fire" to narrow the results down to a handful to get the fire truck).

Press ENTER to insert your chosen emoji, and escape to close the panel.

Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>

Yes I saw the Russian problem or something like it on their mailing list a few days back. You are right, they fix one thing and break another. Reading between the lines I gather that they are trying to work with code that to be kind was brought into being in an organic fashion and things break due to the ramifications of a change not being obvious to the new team.
They seem to be trying to make things more ordered and certain things always fixed in the same way, not patched up as it seems it has been before.
However I still use the speech player in Espeak add on but with the old voice files. It stops a lot of the weird UK English problems.

I did see it here. I passed it on to Mick, as this is exactly the kind of
thing we are looking for. I haven't had a chance to speak with him yet
about how to proceed. Every eSpeak release lately seems to be a two-edged

I think you need to raise a ticket on nvdas gather site for this as I
doubt anyone will see it here.
In the meantime, speech player in Espeak is still downloadable as an add

"my info, active" which is a button, my skype username also as a

"use dialpad", which is also a button.

Did I do something wrong? Where are all of these headings and edit
fields and such? I looked in settings but I didn't really see anything
about appearance or accessibility or what have you. I thought maybe it
was in the list of chats, but no web commands work there either. Focus
mode makes no difference. It just doesn't seem to be a web-like
interface at all. It's certainly different from the app version, but
nothing like what I expected from people's descriptions. This is an
install of "Skype-8.30.0.50.exe", right from www.skype.com. I can
arrow around in the list of chat messages and select with the normal
Windows commands, that's nice. The window is just titled Skype but
when I alt-tab to it, it says "Skype preview document", which seems to
imply that NVDA thinks it's not your ordinary window.

I assume if I hit enter and/or space on anything labelled "button" in
the chat list it will open that specific conversation so I can see
more than just the most recent message. Yep, and in there, I get
headings for days. But I can't figure out how to close the chat,
escape didn't work, nor did ctrl-F4, and alt-F4 just closed the Skype
window, but it should still be running in the background, because I
told it to in settings. Yep, it says it's in the system tray anyway.
The duplicated messages are kind of weird, if I arrow up through the
chat it has a message, then a profile button, then the message again.

Anybody got any tips? I can navigate it but the web stuff doesn't seem
to be working, except in a specific conversation, and like I said, I
can't figure out how to close the conversation I opened. I'm sure I'll
do more dumb stuff with it later.

pressing control to stop speech temporarily, commands such as alt+f4, and
in fact any commands which involve the function keys, along with commands

help please? Warm regards, Claire Potter

WinTenApps 18.09.1 released #addonrelease

Hi all,

Windows 10 App Essentials 18.09.1 is now available. This release fixes an issue seen in recent modern Calculator updates where NVDA played error tone or appeared to do nothing when announcing unit conversion results and other calculations. As always, the new release is just an update check away… or almost.

You’ll find out why I was a bit hesitant above very soon.

Cheers,

Joseph

You know… Someone was able to crack this nut once and while it’s a bummer that Webvisum was dumped, it apparently wasn’t impossible to put together the necessary tools to develop it. Other then the Accessible Apps guy who was charging something like $3 a month for a CAPCHA solution, no one else has really given a shot to recreate a similar one. Sure it sucks that you have to maybe pay for something that can be argued should be free, but those are the breaks. That or another intrepid developer can invest their time and money and skill into an accessible CAPTCHA solver out of the kindness of their heart until something’s actually done about the inaccessibility. Even if you pay, just deduct it from your taxes.

That said though, I can’t recall the last time I really had an issue with a CAPTCHA. Everything’s the I’m not a robot or audio option for the most part now.

Gene,

God only knows why your general stance is to say "black" when anyone else says "white," but it's as annoying as hell.

I got an invitation from a member here in 2016.  I went through the registration process.  That's where the process stopped.  Nothing comes back.

If anyone, and I do mean anyone, can complete a new account registration for Webvisum there are a very great many who would love to know how to do so.  I haven't seen a single example of success in several years and know that my own, following their instructions and getting an invitation from a member, went into the great bit bucket in the sky.

Re: NVDA and amazon

It doesn't work on free books as you cannot gift a free book. If the book is $0.00, there is no "buy for others" option. Otherwise, that's a decent workaround.

Hi, here's another trick. If all you find is the "buy for others" button, it's OK to click on that and put in your own email address. Amazon will send you an email with the link to your book in it, you click that link to accept your gift. There ya go, you just bought a book for you, from you. I personally used that 3 times last week, and it worked well.

Yeah, it's a known issue.  To work around it, tab to the buy now button (or the read with kindle unlimited button), then use nvda-numpad minus key, then use the nvda-shift-numpad enter key to activate the button.  Yes, you need the shift.  I haven't a clue why. And, yes, you need to tab to the button first.  (again, no idea why), but that's the only way I've found to get around the issue.  I've also reported it to amazon, as have others, but feel free to add your voice to the outcries, perhaps it will cause them to fix it sooner.

Hi,
Has anyone noticed an issue with purchasing content from the Kindle store on Amazon?
I've tried two different web browsers and can't see the buy botton on the Kindle store.

Safari doesn’t exist for Windows anymore. I forget when Apple ended support for it.

To be fair to Apple, Apple's stuff works pretty differently on Apple's
stuff, as opposed to Windows ports. I don't know if Safari under Windows
is usable, but it's usable, if pretty weird, on the mac.

Re: itunes latest issue

Mary Otten

I’m not so interested in being fair to Apple in this instance. Microsoft has made the office suite reasonably accessible on the Mac and even on I devices. Apple hasn’t done that well with iTunes or iCloud for that matter. As somebody who owned a Mac for years, hoping that Apple would catch up with Accessibility there and eventually I went back to windows, I’m disgusted. Far more people in this world use windows then use a Mac. I love the eye devices. Apple needs to step up his game on windows. It’s that simple.
